Coldrain is getting quite popular! I've been listening to them for about 4 years now, and each year, they become more and more popular, and their music just keeps getting better. I couldn't be more excited for them, and I hope this tour with BFMV allows Coldrain to blow up all over the globe and become a household name when talking about the best bands in the world at this point in time. They deserve it, and I believe they'll get there.
They will do it, I don't remember where I read it, but there's a festival soon in Japan with coldrain, one ok rock & more famous bands like Metallica & Linkin Park. It's the Summer Sonic Festival, do some research if you really want to see them :) Sorry if my english isn't correct, I'm French ~

I'm gonna be honest on this one. I'm diggin' many japanese alternative/indie/metal bands. Some are great because they are different, others use the japanese language to sound different, honest and just have an amazing power of expression. Then there's those like Coldrain...they copy the typical american core formula. That's really not a way to stand out, but it's a way to become famous indeed. Though they are lucky because they really sound like a serious american band, and their sound is perfect. I've heard some songs, some are mostly 1-hit wonders. After the second listen you just know how they go.. Inside of Me surprises me, the structure is really cool with those rythm changes in the chorus. Not that much predictable so that's why i really enjoy this song. They should have more of these.
Then again, you have to remember that at first they started out as a Japanese band and not an American one. SO they were going along the American rock style over in japan, for the Japanese that is different. Especially since some of the studios and people they work with are actually American, so of course their sound is going to be a bit different than most Japanese rock artists.
I think what's great about coldrain is they nail the typical formula so well and bring energy and passion into what they do. It's what makes them stand out to me.
I disagree with your word "copy". They are not copying anyone. They have their own style. I think you just have a picture of how a Japanese band should be and coldrain is not aligning to that. Also, you're making "the western style" a basis which I also disagree.
