The shift towards authenticity in content creation is truly refreshing. It's great to see creators being genuine and relatable rather than overly flashy.
Yeah I'm really hoping it has a positive effect on my work. I tried to always be honest in my life and my channel. It has really helped me become a better person and feel proud of my work. On and off the internet
Key to success is to give your viewers content they want to see. It's like running a business, fulfilling people demands will bring you a lot of money. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but patience and hard work (with a little bit of Famester to help) will always pay off at the end. YT is changing for several reasons, including people over 45 getting into it, many for the first time just in the past two years. Also the crazy stuff happening in the world makes kinda mindless entertainment seem like a combo of time wasted and a bad joke to a lot of people.
I think everyone has always been on YT tbh.
@@HeathersTarotVisions sort of true, but I am seeing an uptick of Gen X and older creators. I think this is a product of the lockdowns from 3-4 years ago....a lot of people came to RUclips then (I used to dabble but I started heavily watching content during 2020), and now like me are creating content for it.

I 100% agree with this! Being authentic, having content that appeals to a large group, and the X-Men...err...X-Factor of interesting thumbnail that are also simple/authentic. I'm so glad YT is moving away from the super flashy and kind of going back to what it originally was about, which was people being people and uploading thing's that are real. Like me, I post a rock a day to look at, it's simple, I'm excited to make the videos, and I've started changing over the thumbnails to showing what's in the video instead of a generic flashy/stylized one. Simple and straightforward and authentic. It's a stupid but fun idea but it also keeps people's interests and I'm consistent every day with content which YT loves. My number have been climbing since the start and now it's starting to snowball. Thanks for always making great, too the point videos, Marcus. It's very much appreciated by us!

This was a great watch. I agree that authenticity is everything. My favourite channels are people who speak like they’re talking to a friend. It’s better to be yourself, you can never go wrong rather than trying to keep up an appearance which will just get exhausting and fall to the wayside at some point, plus, once people suss it out they’ll fall to the way side too! All points noted ❤

Here’s a question: why is it that people are more interested in watching longer RUclips videos now, but when they get on TikTok they frequently scroll to the next video within the first 15 seconds? Why are they more/ less willing to invest time on different platforms?

Hello Marcus, we've been creating shorts for a year, also watched your video from 9 months ago where you studied 5.6k shorts. Managed to get 168M views so far!, and it was proof that your study was correct.
Recently the shorts algorithm changed dramatically (around Feb 3-10). We've been trying to figure it out in the last weeks, it's really strange (and a bit frightening) actually, since many things make no sense as they did before.

Perhaps there's a reason for this... In a world saturated with artificiality, if you encounter someone who speaks to you with sincerity, devoid of empty promises like "follow my method to make millions of dollars," you're more likely to lend them an ear.
This is also because the world we live in is constantly judging us, offering nothing but stereotypes and models to emulate. Failure to conform to these standards often results in ostracization, labeled as a loser or a failure.

I have noticed this on youtube overall now, and i believe this could be the road to success to some creators, Hence i myself am starting my channel on this style as soon as i can, and i feel like many people will try to start this but not succeed due to doing it forcefully to try succeed in a effortless way, not in a way where they enjoy it, but i would love to talk to an audience and actually be myself and feel more like a friend sharing opinions as thats what i wanna base my channel on.

Very interesting. This type of content now has a lot to do with how your points appeal (i am really happy about where this is going now) . Specifically this new style focuses on the ethos ethical appeal, an appeal to your credibility or identity. People trust you on specific topics if your identity matches the knowledge of said topic.

My husband went through a hip surgery and started a channel and got me motivated to talk about our life and my own personal journey in hopes it'll help someone out there someone like me❤ Stay motivated even with 1 view i want to see how far i can go and document my growth

Authenticity is something I've always strived for but getting people to even click the video is a tough one. And then, the short attention-span of much of the audience kicks in - but I too am seeing signs of improvement over recent months (I wouldn't say it goes back more than that). Has there been some specific trigger, or is it just that some threshold has been reached? Or has YT tweaked the algorithm a bit, away from clickbait garbage slightly?

The 'authenticity' aspect is definitely more an aspirational thing for viewers. Watching someone who is relatable-i.e., isn't running their videos through 500 layers of editing by the 60 second mark-but who fulfills something you perceive yourself lacking.
Thewizardliz, for example, would never be popular if she was average-looking. Nobody would click on her videos if she was sat there, 30 lbs heavier without lip-filler and beautiful sleek hair. But she has both extreme good-looks and a lot of self-worth, which is something most women lack. This niche is growing, and honestly it's a bit of a shame because mostly it's just pretty women yapping about how they manipulate men and get what they "deserve" by virtue of existing, but I digress. :p

Also, Sam and Dry Creek, both have strong visual hooks that subconsciously sticks in the viewers memory. I am not familiar with the other creator, but look at her thumbnails. Consistent. It may be the hobgoblin of little minds, but it works to help create a strong, cohesive visual style and brand. Great video as always!

I think it takes effort to be that authentic on camera. I have plenty ideas for content on camera but my insecure is a barrier that will take time to overcome.

Does anybody have any advice to musicians who do covers (and some original music) in regard to branching out and making different types of content? I'd like to make some different types of videos, but I want to make sure they still serve the small audience I've cultivated.
Totally agree with this one, seeing it everywhere, from TikTokers holding lav mics to long vlogs...totally going back to a vlog format. I used to feel bad for making long videos, splitting them up into shorter chunks (which also has a good reason, see GeoWizard for that) now I feel they are less of a curse, more of a boon. But yes, people have to want to invest that time.
i think authentic content is the biggest factor in growth not because of some new meta its a shift in the world, not just content but in all forms of art ppl don’t want to watch the same content over and over about how they should be doing this or that or fear driven content there’s a sense of originality in this new wave that isn’t just trying to get views it’s just ppl making things they want to make i think the meta is stop caring about the psychology marketing deep tactics and just make what u care about
PLEASE HELP i got a big question i have a channel where i uploaded beats (this channel) it got 30k subscribers but that isnt my passion anymore i wanted to switch it to a gaming channel uploaded 3-4 videos but i thought thats maybe the wrong way thats why the videos are privat now now i made this new channel with 0 subsc i feel uncertain if i should just let my channel with 30k rot :( please help is a new channel the right decision?
I'm in college and it can be really hard to stay consistent at times. But what i don't understand is how other creators won't post for months. But when they do they get 10k or 20k views in just one day. Whereas if I'm gone for a while I either get few views or no views. Idk It's just really frustrating when I put my time and effort in making a video and I don't see progress.

Long minimal format videos are booming because they're much simpler to listen to and integrate into daily mundane tasks we do in life, like driving, washing dishes, and so on...

4:00 glad you mentioned that's worried this was gonna be a 'be authentic' type of vid and leave it at that. As it seems that people like the authenticity from people who are just doing interesting stuff, more documentary type.
If you have an old YT channel with only 2.3k subs and two-digit-average view counts despite 1.1k videos, can you raise it in the algorithm or should you just start a new channel and ditch the old, bad stats? I ask because my channel was an authenticity channel back in 2019-20 when authenticity got buried in the algorithm by TV-like channels that used slick, flashy edits.
I have massively increased views on a couple of unsuccessful videos by changing the title and making a new thumbnail. I don’t know if it would work on a 5 year old video, but it might be worth a try. Also keep uploading new content and RUclips will be more likely to recommend your old stuff as well.
I guess the issue is this X-factor. Does that make it somewhat exclusive? Like, can you somehow cultivate an X-factor? will some people manufacture an X-factor? Tricky one.
As a new youtuber it's really hard to get noticed. To all the new youtubers, we got this!!
