I replaced the part and the dash light problem was solved. Also the headlamps were brighter and the stereo was hitting the proper wattage. That simple switch is a current relay tied into a layout of lights and controls in the related areas. Many thanks to Folks like you who help the DIY Gang save on repair costs. Next project the lawnmower. Parts are on order.

Glad to have helped! I didn't realize that swich was so far reaching into other components as well. It could have had a lot of resistance dragging those things down.

Thank you, I just experienced the exact same issue with my ‘04 Century tonight. Instrumentation worked fine this morning but tonight after work everything but the radio and odometer was out. I suspected the headlight switch, I will now go on eBay and hope I can find a NOS Delco unit. Otherwise I’ll have to get one from a junkyard.

I went ahead and took out my switch and I had the same pin that had clearly been arcing at the base of it. Unfortunately the connector is slightly melted as well so I am not sure a new switch will fix my issue I cleaned it up a little and re-installed it and no lights, I twisted the dimmer on and off a few times and the lights flickered and then came back on. We’ll se how long they stay on. I did find a NOS AC Delco switch for $75 on eBay (I’m pretty sure it is discontinued now from GM). I really hope that the melted connector won’t ruin my new switch to.

@@dizzywehby3442 I don't claim to be an automotive electrician, but I will do my best to try to get you started. I would guess you have a break in an aging wiring harness somewhere. My guess is that harness is in your trunk on the passenger side, by the trunk hinge. That harness gets flexed every time you open and close your trunk. One of those wires in that harness caused my trunk light to work intermittently one time because it had a break in it.
If you don't find it there, you'll probably be best off having a Buick service department look at it. Chances are good somebody else's Century did the same thing and they'll know exactly where to look based on their experience. You can also try to Google the make, model, and symptoms to see if anybody else had that problem and put something out on the Internet about it.

@@dizzywehby3442 That I'm sure of. I've never taken the seats and carpet out to find out how Buick ran a harness to the back of the car. Maybe someone has and can chime in.

All my exterior lights worked fine when this problem occurred, but I can see this switch possibly causing your kind of problem too.

This why I’m here, my headlights don’t work. Everything else does. This switch is my last thing I haven’t replaced to fix that problem
