Firstly, I'm a fan of Fr. Rolheiser. There are several points that he misses with forgivesness and real life. Forgiving murderers. You can forgive them in your heart but you may have to put them away to protect the public. Immigrants; the majority of people do not have a problem with immigration. You just can't have open borders where criminal elements can enter unimpeded. To paraphrase Fr. Rolheiser..."the Amish let the murders of a family go...forgiveness...practicing the Gospel".Too simplistic for a theologian I listen to because he has nuanced and sophisticated arguments. Even our Lord has an edge to his goodness. You need to believe in Jesus, the Cross, the Resurrection. No pantheism. Same thing with love and forgivesness. Making that work in an evil world is more complicated. You can forgive murders and love immigrants without having helter skelter.
