I thought it was a clever marketing trick. Like "if you want to see what's behind the blurred box, buy a mug" 😂 Speaking of your merch plug, am I right to believe you have an SM?! 😮🤣
@@Teribus13Yes … He has a BIIIG SM mug … well.. it’s a small picture of an SM ( well, maybe *THE* SM) on the side of a large mug. A decent sized mug. Did I mention that I have a large SM mug (a large mug with a small picture of an SM … *the* SM ) ?? … and it’s now my favourite mug. Mind you - because I’m in Ireland, it cost an arm and a leg with customs duties … the bastards. Ended up costing nearly €30 for a bloody mug. Good job it’s my now favourite mug. If it wasn’t … I’d sell it to banger racers… or chop it up and sell bits of it. I’m sure the handle would be worth a fortune. But itsa good mug. A proper garage mug. I know that wasn’t your question. So, then, this isn’t your answer. It’s still a damn good mug.
Exactly my thoughts. I'm glad I stayed there for the 5 minute explanation. I'd love a DS but I absolutely didn't want that DS (not actually a DS). Long live Clement!
Honestly? Respect for you to ignore the facts as you peeled back Clements layers. More respect for this decision to quit and get some pay back from it. You learned some stuff, had some fun, entertained us along the way, and no one died.
Such is life! Around 2000 I bought a Riley 1.5 and drove it the 500 miles home to northern Scotland. The paint was rough but it was generally very solid apart from a tiny hole in the passenger floor. Just doing that tiny bit of welding I managed to set fire to it and the car was destroyed, almost taking my wooden garage with it.
I actually saw that panhard befor,e and I'm so glad things got cleared up! I don't think anyone is mad at the "traditional" banger racings, with actualy done for shells. It's more the recent controversies of clean expensive cars beeing destroyed to cause controversy that we dislike, and I'm sure you too. I'm glad it's getting a proper send off!
You broke the golden rule, you give it a name, then it gets a personality, it is not a longer a thing, a friend of mine got a lam to fatten up for Christmas ones the kids give it a name it’s future was guaranteed to make it past meny Christmas’s, when you went to knock on the door a dog and a house trained sheep came running, it died of old age and now there’s a shrine in the garden all because it got a name. But you have done the right thing, you tryed when No one else would have, thank you for sharing this with us
I love DS’s, I absolutely adore Panhard 24ct’s, I fall down on my knees in absolute worship of CX’s, and I don’t mind SM’s either. But you’re absolutely right, there are thousands of DS’s,ID’s and DSuper’s still in the world so Clement, although regrettable, is not a tragedy.
"Mike is bang into his cars." Obviously! 🤣 "It's not Clement. It's like sticking a corpse on a Segway." 🤣 Love your attitude, and your sense of humour. You did the right thing taking on Clement. You did the right thing deciding to stop. And sending Clement out in a blaze of glory is genius! Also good to hear that you didn't lose out financially.
I saw the DS Safari, languishing in the scrap yard near here, it was really rotten. I talked to Grants about saving it, even advertised it for them & there was no real intrest, so to the track it went. Clement will have one last hurrah, people will enjoy themselves & I'm all in favour of what you've done, hopefully there wont be too many people who don't get it.
What a glorious end for Clement. Years ago my first car was a Renault 11 which I loved. When I was done with it both my brothers had it for a while but when it left the family it was last spotted banger racing near Aberdeen. I was really pleased to hear that it had gone out with a bang and not a whimper.
Clement will always live on in the hearts and minds of many - especially those that joined in your first massive live stream for Sophie's legacy . Well done mate move on.
on the subject of cars stolen for banger racing, it happened to my brother a good few years ago. he had a beautiful Rover P6 3500S (yes the good old 3.5 litre rover V8, that in it's later years got breathed on by TVR) that got stolen from outside his house. we believe it was stolen to be raced as it was never ever found.
In the USA, we have a racing series called The 24hrs of LeMons. That’s where that kind of car would end up, and it would be highly popular with the judges. There are highly coveted awards for interesting cars.
I can now imagine Led Zep's "Achilles' Last Stand" accompanying Clement's Last Stand on the oval - glad you're planning to make a video of it. And I'll go for a Clement keyring, ta. I'm also reminded of a mate's VdP Allegro - sold as a "runner, all welding done, MoT exempt" - that collapsed at the front when some of the bodges were removed...
Good move; it's taken me a very long time to realise that if I have no actual need for a particular thing and nobody else wants it, then perhaps I should just throw it away, or better still give it to someone who knows how to destroy things in style!
Celemet mug purchased. If you didn't have the SM (and a lack of space) it would've nice to keep it as a long term project and revive it, but it's totally understandable given your situation. I'd say the best way to honour Clement is get stuck into the SM now.
I think we've all experienced the "Clement" situation at some point, purchasing a car that later turned out to be far too bad to save. I had a Ford Angila 100e, everything you touched turned into a domino effect.
Hey. You great man. Your honesty makes the video worth watching. Some things in life are just not meant to be. Some projects work, some don't. Take a deep breath, accept your loss and go on. Hugs and keep up
Think you've done the best thing, it will go out in style. My grandson does bangers and got through 7 end of life micra k11's last year and they all gave loads of enjoyment for lot's of people 👍
Well played, Kitch. Clement, unlike other cars in a similar situation, had has a forensic examination by yourself. 1 - Nothing has been left undone. 2 - He has ceased to be, and had so when you took him on, unbeknownst. 3 - The Post Mortem has been done, and there are no more tangent avenues left. 4 - He has served unforeseen purposes in lots of ways. 5 -That he shall take his final bow on a high is a bonus. 6 - That he will contribute to Sophie's Legacy in some small way is a larger bonus, that other vehicles in that similar situation will not have afforded. Finally, you, and his followers, will have our memories.
Indeed as per a fair few of the commenters here, I did approach this with a real sense of unease but it's exciting to see Clement go out in a blaze of glory, a story we've followed for a long while to end on a high. Godspeed Clement!
That was a very nice sendoff for Clement. I know it pained you to do it, but in the end it was the right call. Now Clement will live on in parts all over. I am looking forward to buying one of your Clement bits for charity. Let us know the particulars and I will cue up. I like those bumper ends with the reflector on them. Time to move forward and on to the SM.
As a MOT tester I am so sad to see it go......nope the mot exempt law is a joke, we have a local plumber running a fully loaded morris minor that's not been MOTed for years and I can spot at least 2 MOT fails as he drives past and that's without all of the Sun news paper and filler in the seatbelt mounts,,,mind you in a crash page 3 could be a good thing! Old cars may be MOT exempt but they still have to be road worthy which is the MOT minimum standard its just the owner is responsible not the garage... anyway I live on a farm and can set at least one of my Land Rovers MOT and tax exempt ! Great video x
I admire your mental and emotional fortitude. Don't worry, the men in white coats are still too busy at my place. Rear reflector and some JB weld = excellent porridge spoon, Clement has given, the joy endures.
Rest in peace Clement. I think you made the right choice looking at it now. You did a fair bit with it considering it never made it to the road. Hope you’ve recovered from your illness 😅 Surprised you didn’t send Vecky off with clement as well.
Perfect!!! Sounds like a great way to go! Well done. Any chance of a video of the race? you’ve done the right thing - Clement is just a piece of metal that cannot be a car anymore.
I have so much respect for you and what you do. I'm sad for Clement and was a bit appalled by your plans for him but clearly I needed some education on races such as those. Thank you for all you're doing. I truly enjoy your videos. Warm regards from France
May Clement rust in peace. You had fun with ‘him’ and learnt a new skill set which will hopefully come in handy for the SM. I remember watching Citroën D’s and Ford Granada’s being used for stock car racing back in the 80’s when the cars would have only been 10 or so years old. Put me down for a Clement key ring please Kitch, it’ll be carried around proudly on the ignition key of Cyrano my Citroën C5. 😎
I 100% agree with everything you have said on here. It was a good learning experience that was also great content for us. Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that.. I love the authenticity of your videos, keep up the great work, I look forward to hopefully seeing Clement (well something that resembles a D Super 5! 😂) going around the track in a future video. 🙂
I totally respect your decision about Clement, it was your car, your choice, getting the banger racer chap on video will be great, see if he can supply you any vides of how Clement will be built, engine etc,i will be very interested for one .
I’d buy a Clement key tag! To me it embodies my experiences with my own projects - I’ve had to admit there’s not much joy in persevering with something that will just absorb endless hours and dollars. A good send off and much better than the crusher. I felt a lot less sad when I sold my car for parts and it left driven under its own power onto a trailer, with parts to live on rather than craned off and strapped down with a chain over the roof….which basically did happen to one of mine…
It was evident after the last video that the car was beyond practical saving, unquestionably. You explained your reason for it going to banger racing and concerns with that scene in general (but not the people who've taken Clement) well, imo - so certainly can't criticise any of that!
I know how you feel. I had to do the same with my much loved Merc W123 280E. After discovering it neded both sills, ineer wings front and rear, bits of floor pan and all manner of other bits, it was beyond repair. I tried to sell it for parts. Nobody wanted it. My wife and myself were very sad to see the truck taking it to the scrapyard. I love the upcycling idea though, good one.
While I was among those who thought it had a lot of hidden issues, I was hoping I was wrong. I don't gloat about this sort of thing because, as an AMC aficionado, I know what it's like to have others be constantly negative about your projects. Try to see the best in people as most do not wish ill when they make these assessments from afar. Most of us just like to try to have a conversation about a topic few understand in today's world. I wish it had turned out better.
It's sad to see Clement go, but I understand your feeling. We have a saying in portuguese which translates something like "there are more tides than sailors"! Another one will come to "haunt" (in a good way) you! All the best! En avant Citroen!
Am Ende kommt immer der Schluss. At the end there is always the closure. I’m absolutely fine what you did with your rusty property. This D Super 5 lives on in bits and pieces. There is no better way to say farewell to Clement. 🚗💨🇫🇷👋👋
Remember, all the metal in a car is a dead thing... what makes it spesial is the person who cared for it... fought to keep it alive... you did everything you could(within reason) and beyond. I salute you sir, because im the same way...BUT to keep one car alive(SM) you have to let some go... there is not enough time! ❤
Sometimes a car has to die to donate it's good bits to others, it's something the decent Banger Boys and Girls are very good at. I've previously let two Minis go after raiding them for parts (back when a runner was sub-£100!) and they both ended up as shells for Autograss cars. One is still running round tracks over 20 years later, having been rebuilt as a silhouette and with a V6 in the back!
for me that is the perfect end to Clement, a Viking goes to Valhalla when killed in battle, Clement goes to battle for its last drive - that is the viking way...
Actually, I like the idea of letting Clement the husk have one last hurrah as a banger racer rather than simply being crushed and by selling parts off to be re-used, Clement in some form will still live on.
I forgot to mention; the 24CT has a spare wheel trap under the boot, just like that Rover P4. Even though my dad had two P4s, I don't remember that feature, perhaps he never had a puncture?
"like putting a corpse on a Segway" 😅😅 Fair play, anyway, you did what you could for Clement, more than most would have, so don't beat yourself up about him... I mean, it. Just keep us posted on FrankenClem's final battle!
Richard, you tried your best but there's always a point where you have to make that call. The parts you've sold will keep others alive. In theory everything is fixable but Clement was not to be. Hopefully, working on Clement and the other DS should stand you in good stead for the SM. You've done the right thing. A fitting end for Clement.
That's such a cool ending for it (him). Much rather see a car have a last hoorah as a banger rather than just get scrapped. As an Aldershot resident and a stock car fan I'm defo going to be there if I can to see him perform. Please let us know if you can when it's going to be 😎
As the restorer and owner of a Panhard 24CT, although I knew about the banger racer, I could not bring myself to watch the video. I guess I am rather squeamish?
Rich, you’ve done the right thing. Clement was unsafe, and can donate good parts to help other Citroens. As for the banger track? As you say, it’s sad but a suitable sendoff for the remains. A good final stop before the bailer.
Farewell Clement. I don’t think I’m the only one to agree with everything you said in this video. I would love to see Clement’s last hurrah. Chin up man
Good decision. I wonder what the banger racer can do with it. It has no engine, no hydraulics and will fall apart during the first lap. For the money it will take to fix Clement you can buy more than only one decent examples. When you started to dismantle it I forcasted that it will take a very long time to see it assembled again. When the state of the skeleton became visible it was obvious that the car was far beyond repair. Now you know the traps and the next one will be better bodywise.
I'm not sure exactly when I twigged, but I knew Clement's shell was going to be banger raced before you said it. Normally I'd be horrified, but it seems like a good way to close the book. Chin up, Kitch. I hope you can concentrate on the SM I've heard that you might own.
Yeah...that blurred box ain't meant to be there...
Never noticed the blurred box
I thought it was a clever marketing trick. Like "if you want to see what's behind the blurred box, buy a mug" 😂

I thought it was a naughty mug🤣

Au revoir Clement. I recall the first video. Surprised at how long ago it was.
It's always sad to see and old car die, but you have to do what's best for you. You should sell prints of that final shot from the video too!
Clement gets to fight to the death...and hopefully a noble fight it will be!

Rather than a lavatory roll holder I think the gear stick could make an interesting flush handle.
Be good to have updates on what he does to get clement running for the banger track
Rest in peace Clement. I think you made the right choice looking at it now. You did a fair bit with it considering it never made it to the road. Hope you’ve recovered from your illness 😅 Surprised you didn’t send Vecky off with clement as well.
Sounds like it may not be doing a lot of resting. A Vecky exhaust system keychain, I'm not so sure about that one.
That's next weeks video😆
I'll try selling Vecki first, but there's a chance it goes the same way. Hopefully someone will try saving it though.
It’s hard to loose a friend that you probably could have saved but there’s a point where practicality has to step in. I do feel your pain though. 😢
Now cracks a noble heart.
Good-night, sweet Goddess.
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
Perfect!!! Sounds like a great way to go! Well done. Any chance of a video of the race? you’ve done the right thing - Clement is just a piece of metal that cannot be a car anymore.

Bravo Sir , I applaud your decision.
Good on you for being transparent and honest.

I 100% agree with everything you have said on here.
It was a good learning experience that was also great content for us.
Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that..

The title made me think of the song "So it's over" By Weeping Willows.
It must to take a courage for one to admit the status where one can not do it and move on.

Sad to see it go man, but there is only so much time and effort in all of us...
When it's your time to go, you can't out stay your welcome.
But she will have one last hooray
I know how you feel. I had to do the same with my much loved Merc W123 280E. Looking forward to the race video
My friend you did the right thing at least will go down fighting, and I love the idea of the clock that would look cool.
Wish I had your imagination, great choices!

Shame but sometimes it's just too rough, Rover P6 is very similar
Why not bring some parts up to Rustival and see it anyone buys any of it

Hopefully I will be racing that day at Aldershot as well. Mikes the perfect person for that car and will make sure Clement goes out with a bang.
Nice one! Go easy on Clement, it won't take much punishment haha!
It's sad but you made the right decision

The gear lever could potentially be repurposed as a coat hook.
She has done her mileage, given all her smiles and frowns , her parts helped others now lay her Down . ❤
Glad that Clement is living on through other cars, and the carcass is going out with a bang.
A fitting end for clement
I forgot to mention; the 24CT has a spare wheel trap under the boot, just like that Rover P4. Even though my dad had two P4s, I don't remember that feature, perhaps he never had a puncture?
Sad to see her go but the right decision. She'll live on in many ways
Totally see where your coming from, would rather see that than it going into a crusher!
"like putting a corpse on a Segway" 😅😅
Fair play, anyway, you did what you could for Clement, more than most would have, so don't beat yourself up about him...
Weve all had cars that arent worth our while and you have to call it a day. I think you made a wise decision.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Go out in a blaze of glory Clement😊
Good shout Mr. Kitch. Nothing wrong with "racing" a car that can never be fixed, be it economically or otherwise.
Also eBay auctions when...?
Announcements will be made in the members' section first, then to the remaining peasants 24hrs later :-)
Right decision. The parts will keep other cars on the road. Clement will live on…. in parts.
That's such a cool ending for it (him). Much rather see a car have a last hoorah as a banger rather than just get scrapped.
As an Aldershot resident and a stock car fan I'm defo going to be there if I can to see him perform. Please let us know if you can when it's going to be 😎
It gives you abit mor room i the workshop
As the restorer and owner of a Panhard 24CT, although I knew about the banger racer, I could not bring myself to watch the video. I guess I am rather squeamish?
Seems you came across Clement like Kirk coming across Spock in the reactor room: “He’s dead already”
Live long, and prosper.
Rich, you’ve done the right thing. Clement was unsafe, and can donate good parts to help other Citroens. As for the banger track? As you say, it’s sad but a suitable sendoff for the remains. A good final stop before the bailer.
Noooon, rien de rieeeen.... Nooon, je ne regrette rien....
I always dreamed of an DS until I got an SM. You will forget all about Clement the first time you drive the SM... so get this thing fixed!!!!
That's the plan!
Farewell Clement. I don’t think I’m the only one to agree with everything you said in this video. I would love to see Clement’s last hurrah. Chin up man
I am sure Clement will get a good send off matey
What a perfect and fitting end for Clements remains 👏👍👍
Good decision. I wonder what the banger racer can do with it. It has no engine, no hydraulics and will fall apart during the first lap.
For the money it will take to fix Clement you can buy more than only one decent examples.
When you started to dismantle it I forcasted that it will take a very long time to see it assembled again.
When the state of the skeleton became visible it was obvious that the car was far beyond repair.
Now you know the traps and the next one will be better bodywise.
Goes in a blaze of glory
I'm not sure exactly when I twigged, but I knew Clement's shell was going to be banger raced before you said it. Normally I'd be horrified, but it seems like a good way to close the book. Chin up, Kitch. I hope you can concentrate on the SM I've heard that you might own.
There was me thinking you were going to Maserati V6 swap it, and build the first D Super-5 four-door speedster…
Now you can concentrate on the Maserati 😊
