I liked Adam Savage's description of being a host, it's not just "being yourself," but being yourself with your personality dialed up about 20% for TV - though only maybe 5-10% for things like RUclips

I'm so glad she said she does standup on weekends. I watched her last Netflix special and was so impressed that watching After Midnight is like watching Alex Honnold climb in a gym with a rope. It's a funny show and it works well, but I'm glad she prioritizes her standup.

Regarding Teleprompting: As I understand it, most of those who do teleprompters try to make it look like they're just making up the words as they go. Pretending to improvise, and the end result comes out that we can tell you're faking it, cuz we can see your eyes and your mannerisms. We know you're not just magically saying stuff like you know what you're doing. Taylor's approach is unique in that she's pretending to pretend to not pretend. She knows we know. We know she knows. It's embarrassing, so let's just have fun with it. That's her schtick when it comes to the prompter. If a viewer doesn't know, that's great. If they do know, then the way she does it, she's letting you in on on the joke. She knows you know and she knows you think it's funny and she uses that. Taylor is brilliant.

The age of talk shows ended with the rise of podcasts. Most talk shows kind of follow a rigid structure where the guest is expected to have an anecdote ready & the talk show host is meant to bring that up along with promoting whatever project their guest is there to promote. Conan was always a great host due to his unpredictable sense of humor as was Craig Ferguson who preceded James Corden who was replaced by Taylor Tomlinson ofcourse. Craig was funny, silly, flirty and unpredictable (just like Conan). Some of the stuff though from their times wouldn't really fly with today's cultures & standards so I like the new direction where the future of late night is headed.
This new show is a panel show similar to lot of the british panel/game shows that I've begun enjoying watching on RUclips since the start of the pandemic. Shows like 8 out of 10 cats, Cats does countdown, Taskmaster, and numerous others. These become avenues to promote talent more than their projects. Been seeing lot of new (and old but less known) standups, comedy actors, and writers getting a chance to shine in the public limelight. They get a chance to be original & funny and come up with something on the spot rather than tell the same stories & anecdotes that they've sharing throughout their entire press circuit.

My initial reaction to the show was that I love Taylor's standup but I have no interest in talk shows. It wasn't until I saw highlights of the first episode on RUclips that I realized it wasn't a talk show at all, but rather a very obvious reboot of arguably my favorite Comedy Central show of the 2010s, @Midnight. So then I was just kind of mad that they didn't lean into that during all of the promotion because that's exactly what I wanted the whole time anyway: One of my favorite shows hosted by one of my favorite standups.

This is such a disappointment because she’s one of the funniest people in the business right now! It’s a big contrast from Game Changers which is so effortlessly funny with Sam as the host and part of that is because it feels like his show, he takes ownership. Love Taylor and hope she gets to blend more of her voice into this project because thus far this has been a tough watch.

I swear she's a ticking time bomb. She's good at masking the fact that she's so into herself plus all the mean things I heard from some mutual friends.

@@globdropyeah what the hell? Hating on Taylor Tomlinson? I literally can't think of a reason beyond being mad that people think a female comedian has become one of the goats.

She doesn't drink and is all about working hard, perhaps your "mutual friends" (bs) view this as that, but I just think you are full of it.

It is shocking how in the past couple of years how standards have gone out the window and mediocrity is celebrated. People have become as smart as farm animals.

      Mediocrity?
What? She is one of the greatest comics of this time.
All of her specials have nailed it.
I'd understand a comment like "I don't really get the appeal, doesn't make me laugh" but specifically visiting a video, where Conan has praised her, just to say she is one of the most mediocre?
      The hell?
