I think listening to this on my phone was a good idea. The "U87" stands out to me more. That's important to consider as commercials are often watched on phones and/or TV speakers.
Thanks man. You got it, Mark. The phone speaker is the single most important speaker test these days. It’s todays “Auratone” and if your stuff doesn’t sound good on a phone speaker, you’re failing yourself. I have a feeling lots of auditions are listened to on a phone speaker.
The Sayuz sound more authoritative to my ears, but I love the U87 when you are conveying excitement. At least that's how it sounds to my ears with my Berdynamic headphones coming through my UAD arrow interface.
I hear it mannnnnnnn!!!!! I hear that slight growl... That buzz of presence from the back of the throat!!!!! AND I LIKE IT!!!!!! It sounds great! I feel like THAT tone is the last 5-10% of which cuts through in the mix. Great stuff!
You know what I find interesting? The comparison between this Fet and the Manley Reference Cardioid. You wouldn’t happen to know would ya? Awesome video!
Oh man the Soyuz... it's unmistakably sweet. I love that sound. And the tube version... my god. I gotta be a hater and say the more I listen to u87s the less I like them, they just feel a tad... dull? Love these Videos, they get me excited
The Soyuz is such a unicorn. I used to not like 87s at all, but my ToneQuest has shown me that it's the sound that makes the most money on my voice, so I've fully embraced it and love it, but I hear ya.
The Soyuz has a more finished sound. Like it's already gone through processing. The 1979 has a more malleable sound. I think you could do more things with it.
Mark, Can you tell me for singing vocals that the Soyuz 017 FET or the Lauten Atlantis is better? I am trying so hard to figure out what mic to buy. I am also using it for acoustic guitar.
The beauty of the marriage of a k87 style capsule and the chiseled 87-style headbasket is how the mids present themselves. That’s why that headbasket design is so critical to the 87 sound. In a rounded headbasket, you get a midrange that captures a bit more of the room in that range, which can be good on some sources but I love how well the mid cuts in this style headbasket.
@@virgogreg You're very welcome. You want to learn more stuff about mics, please feel free to stop by the discord server. I have learned more about mics in the past two months from all the mic maniacs there than I have in the past two years.

I agree. I think there is a lot of authority in the Soyuz’s fuller bottom end and I’m that low mid growl.

Thank you Dean! It's been a process getting here with my tone, but this one feels like a bullseye.

Awesome video!
Thanks Dre! Unfortunately, I haven’t had the pleasure of using a Manley Reference Cardioid. That would be an interesting comparison.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff You’re so welcome! And yes I thought so too! When I haven them both I’ll let you know hah
I’m speaking positive here lol
Beautiful mics brotha you sound great in both, i've been looking at the Soyuz for a while now.
That U87 is pure gold though too
Thank you so much, Michael! The Soyuz, for sure a mic worth a glance.

For my Ears , the Soyuz has even on Phonespeakers sum kind of 3d feeling to its sound signature.
The Soyuz definitely has a magic to its sound.
Cool. Thanks for making

Oh yeah. I plan to do a lot with it.
Mark,
Can you tell me for singing vocals that the Soyuz 017 FET or the Lauten Atlantis is better? I am trying so hard to figure out what mic to buy. I am also using it for acoustic guitar.
Sorry to say, I haven’t tried the Atlantis.
what about the 1979 in a U47 head basket?

I think I like the 1979 better. Smooth and rich. That's not to say the 017 isn't fabulosh. I'm just really digging the 1979.
Yeah man. I love the Soyuz, but I’m really starting to feel connected to the 1979.
Chiselled athlete vs kinda buff gym bro to my ears.
LOL. Metaphorically speaking, on point.
Should have used the 017 tube and not Fet
1979. Easily.
No doubt.
