Very interesting video yet we knew the results about I'll say 3:00 minutes in. However, I've watched throughout and enjoyed it.
I'd bet a stock bug with snow tires would have done better.
@MotorcycleMan - Definitely. The new one might do decent in reverse (maybe not with an open diff though), I'm a bit surprised he didn't try.
I know for a fact the the original Bugs and 411s (with snow tires) were unstoppable in deep snow, my family drove them through several years worth of blizzards successfully.
My dad's old super beetle would go through snow piles up to the windows.
yea wrong tires.
i had snow rated ko2 on my f150, gabage in snow. observe gs16 on my new beetle and it destroys deep snow with no lift
Baja Bob is turning into BAHAHAHA Bob. I love this car.
Surprised this was purchased in the first place
Because we watch it as entertainment. 15k views already.
I think snow tires would have helped a lot. Especially studded snow tires.
Would love to see the Tough "T" Touareg in the rocks and snow!
It would be effortlessly whooping ass
an old school beetle would have done that trail
and better driver
Hahaha
You're not wrong. An old school Baja Bug would have done much better!
1-wheel drive
Ya micra 2011 are better may was able to drive hers threw snow no bother we just kept traction control on and floor it in first
My vw e golf could do better.
I think you well demonstrated why those all-terrains absolutely suck in snow....
At 2:37 just put the D ring bolt up through the tow ring on the bug. Done
Kind of frustrating to watch
Their winch fairlead can only take the shackle bolt.
NORTHERN Toyota that doesn’t work due to the stupid and expensive winch hook they are using.
Except they've got a whole whack of shackles in the recovery bag. Just double them up. One in the tow hook and the other in the winch line.
Simple solution...use a soft shackle. Strong, safe, and only need one to go through both the recovery point and the factor 55 closed link.
To drive in snow, install and use snow tires. The rock and mud tires won't work in snow, as this video proves.
Totally agree, and they don't know how to drive a FWD in the snow. Momentum and finesse are your friend. They are too used to relying on their 4wd to pull them up everything
even a decent set of all season car tires would have been better than those bfgs on snow
WRONG some work as good as snow tires
Those BFG AT's are actually very good on snow but they aren't really a rock and mud tire. I agree that BFG MT's along with all of the other typically big tread block, chunky rock and mud off-road tires do completely suck on snow.
One of the critical things required to make a tire work well on snow is having lots of deep sipes like those AT's do. True off-road tires never have sipes because it makes them too easy to tear chunks out of the tread on rocks.
chains.
Would have went better if they slapped some snow chains on
Lovely! Keep the snow wheeling vids coming!
It's a FWD open diff. Why would you make that off-road capable is beyond me.
youd be surprisd what a lifted fwd can do off road.. not in the snow though. there are definitely limits. my civic skips through this stuff but not on a mountain uphill in the snow lol
Hahahaha!!! You two are hilarious in a good way! Two young men doing some goofy thing that challenges their ability to become a pair of grumpy old men. Love it!
Please be safe, Eh. I shall see you two again.
So the "Shackle" pin would not fit into the tow hook? Bahumbug!
Those BFGs may be snow rated, but a blizzak or something similar I feel would have significantly helped
The nice thing about that car is you can abandon it on the mountain -- and nobody will miss it.
It sure isn’t the old bug with rear engine. I had a few of those back when. Giant snow tires in the back, stock little ones up front. That little thing went anywhere!
Mistake #1 was thinking KO2s are worth anything in the snow.
All wheel drive, a supercharger, and an inclined bumper would make this an offroad beast.
That road with the cliff...i would 💩my pants.
That Disco in the show though!
Lmaoo!! This has to be one of the funniest tfl videos I've seen in quite a few years. Tommy is hilarious hahahah
KO2’s are actually not good in the snow. The king for off road. Not for snow despite the rating. Cooper adventurer AT3 are much better.
So those are the tracks I was following 😂
Those tires look badass but the question is if you get rid of those all terrain tires and throw on some dedicated winter tires if it will perform a lot better. As you know even if an all-terrain tire has a snowflake on it, it's still as isn't as good as a true winter tire
2 words = winter tires
Hey Tommy, When using a winch make sure you put it on free spool when pulling the rope or cable. Using the motor to release the cable you can ran with issues like binding the cable or rope, you will overheat the motor and when you need the power to winch you already are with warm or hot motor. Winch motor need to have certain sequence of use and time to rest before use again. So basically what you did when winching was totally and complete wrong in every way, from safety and equipment use.
TFL is a show of masochist. They first take a Tesla on a cross country tow. Next they take a one wheel drive bug into deep snow. I love this channel!
Lol this is entertaining as heck to watch this little bug is hilarious.
Proper winter tires is your friend.. Not unusual to drive through those amounts of snow in Norway..
It seems like Baja Bob is a bust.
Hey guys Curt here im one of your big fans located in New England I recently got some studded snow tires on my front wheel drive 2015 passat ive been offroading in it with my snow tires never got stuck. Maybe could we see the difference with studded KO2's or some type of studded tire. Thanks guys keep up with the good work!
Probably banned in wherever they are driving, but yeah, they'd probably help quite a bit.
If you're off roading with such vehicle, wouldn't ground clearance be an issue at some point tho?
@@IamGroot786 Of course ground clearance always becomes an issue at sone point. With snow you can conpact quite a thick patch though.
Totally enjoyed this video..🏁🏁🏁🏁😀..a lot of work n lil dangerous..but I give Tommy n Alex⭐⭐⭐⭐Four star rating..Excellent work guys
He’s brave driving it there.
Curious to know, I didn't catch if you guys aired down at all. Too bad it wasn't equppied with a limited slip.
Why didnt the traction control brake the spinning wheel and transfer torque to the other wheel?
My 1998 passat did that, made it very good in even deep snow.
Heated up the brakes alot though.
I would think a newer VW would have the same brake based differential lock.
A 1 wheel drive bug in the snow..........smart move. All those Baja upgraded looks don't do anything for performance. Maybe if it had a Torsen or some kind of locker axle but since its VW just LOL
A for effort Tommy👍🏻 Still some beautiful scenory. Appreciate the snowy video.
This is about the funniest video I've seen today. Pointless Beetle as an offroad vehicle. Thanks for the laughs.
Boys being boys!😄 I had a new '84 Rabbit GTI and used cables/chains on HWY 50 going to Lake Tahoe many times!
Next time you try playing in the snow on the edge of a 2,000 feet drop, get snow chains. Aint worth the risk for a video!
Here's an idea: The VW New Beetle is based on the Golf chassis, right? I wonder if you could take the rear end and transmission out of an R32 and put it under the Bug to give it AWD...?
Tommy Alex? Not Mica?
Ps love how you made the beetle in Cayenne Transiberian colours.
Should have tried backwards
Lol
Time to purchase a soft shackle!
What are these offroad trails you guys go on? Looking to take my old explorer and friends keeps etc offroading in Colorado but don't know any trails
Snow tires would have been better for this scenario but this is a great example of why AWD is so great in snow. No, it doesn't help you stop obviously but AWD most of the time keeps you from getting stuck.
Got my Christmas tree the park was completely packed icey snow. I was even pulling a light trailer for the tree and never even got close to getting stuck with my all season Defender tires on. Oh yeah I was in a Forester. I'm blown away with these tires.
man ur gonna miss that disco mark my words.
you need winter tires for this
You need a welded diff for this lol
@@boostedlawnmower9955 it could help but still not going anywhere with those tires just spinning all the time
1wd for the win
One wheel Peel
One wheel wonder
I’m wondering if the XDS newer VWs would do any better? From what I understand they can send power from side to side depending on which way you’re turning...mine seems to do great in the snow, way better than this beetle anyway
Makes you really appreciate a true off road capable rig
Baja Bob looks good...and that's about it! lol.
That music at hooking up! 😂😂😂😂😂😂👍👍
Put the D ring up side down and tighten her up all the way back it off a quarter turn and your set bro
I thought the same thing until I saw end of the winch cable.
You should just weld the front diff
wait what
You guys are crazy driving in that darn cliff
A mistake for that bug to be there from the beginning. But fun and at times pretty scary to watch just the same. I bet Tommy doesn't that same mistake again.
How about 4 snow tires?
The cool All Terrain tires!
What an intense video.
But man i was seriously scared for you a bit there with the ice under and death on the right side
thats the funnest looking bug ever I would get one if it had 4x4 lol
Yeah, old beetle, some actual snow tires
Let's find baja Bob's great grandfather, that'd be fun
It would have done better with a set of real snow tires
Tommy, you and Alex are really something, that could not have been me up there. I'm honestly amazed since I did not see the VW or Land Rover sliding, so the right tires helped. That drop off tho, no thanks I'm good.
I had a few old Vw bugs and buses they were amazing in the snow
so any car with snow tires could have done that
Didn’t take a German engineer to figure out this task would go bad!!!
What next taking a Tesla truck through a deep water crossing??
Hell yeah lol 🤣🤣🤣😂😂
It would implode at impact.
Odds are a tesla truck would beat most modern trucks off road with more power, 16 in of clearance, and better approach and departure angles.
ChickenGhast adventures 🙄ummmmm yeah
ChickenGhast adventures just make sure to stop of at Home Depot to pick up alottttta extension cords before the first mud hole and rock crawl
What rear shocks are you running?
This is just hilarious.
A front two wheel drive car with studded snow tires.
He tries to drive in a foot of snow and is surprised at the results.
Once he gets off road he goes no where.
You guys do realize that All Terrains are NOT Winter tires right?? Surely you do....I mean it is a car channel. I just watched this whole video....ah I remember when I was young and stupid. If you are wondering what that looks like....look at this video, prime examples of two idiots on a mountain. Way way too dangerous to be up there in that thing in that weather.
All terrains aren't winter tires? Are you serious? And all this time I didn't know any better. Have we lost the meaning of what actually all terrain means in the English language?!
At least should have had chains...
@@albowrx Yep, dead serious. All Terrain's are not Winter tires for the same reason All Seaason's are not. I'd have rather been up there with true winters than what he had. Seriously, do you live in snow country? I mean real snow country like where these kids are actually from. He should know better...or like someone else stated, at least have chains and even then with all that ice under the snow. They are lucky they made it off that mountain. All it takes is one bit of lost traction or a drop in the road shoulder hidden under the snow and off they would go. Here's a bit of an education on Snow vs All Terrain's since you obviously need it: www.tirebuyer.com/education/all-terrain-vs-winter-tires do a brush up on All Season's as well while you are there. Just in case, we want you making it home safe.
Nice D2! Almost makes it worth watching..LOL.
Gregg.
That's a bit dangerous. You really should be using dedicated winter tires up there, not all terrain tires. Those BFGOODRICH ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2 do not get good ratings in snow and ice. The rubber compound gets too hard at low temps.
It's a one-wheel-drive without at least a limited slip transaxle.
Front wheel drive, small tire size... That's a perfect recipe to get stuck in heavy snow
Check out videos of Citroen 2cv in snow, I think it needs to be much lighter to work out.
They should have used winter tires. Those all all terrain tires are not good at low temps.
I drove all over in the snow in Montana with a Geo Storm with snow tires. It did great!
Benjamin V and way more torque, maybe a supercharger to have high torque at lower rpm
May16Joe Check my playlist of my Neon snow wheeling, you’ll be shocked.
Snow tires!
How are you selling the land rover? On the channel, or elsewhere?
I offer my fresh General Grabbers, 205-75-15 of steelies for another test. I trust the tires are the issue. My car has been unstoppable the past 2 years in colorado snow..
Why don't you have a couple soft shackles in the recovery bag?
One question:
Why?
Baja Bob is turning into No snow Bob.
Looks like Haha Bob was built for looks and not off road Worthy...
my old saturn(s) had a limited slip dif. with blizzacks ithey would go pretty good :)
That would make a great snowball rolling down the hill.
I don’t even understand why you guys throw this money to buy this thing when you also have the old one.
Entertainment
Piersandro Mannino i dont mind watching. 👍🏼
RUclips ad money more than pays for this.
Now I know who I should call to build me the worlds worst Offroad vehicle.
I still appreciate the effort and the video
reminds me of when i use to find the most random cars in GTA V and fling them of mount chillad
It's called, "Baja Bob". Not Bob-sled! Haha.
Very funny. I drove an $800 Bug for 20 years and never once got it stuck . Of course mine had the engine in the REAR.
Love all the comments. This it really heavy wet snow. Even that landrover would not have made it up that first trail. If it was a dry light snow that big would have tunneled through the snow.
Have you thought about changing the open front differential for a limited slip one? I don't know if it would help, but it would improve safety, specially if you're passing inches away from a drop like in the video.
For the D ring, should have simply put the pin through the D ring, then through the hook eye, then into the top side of D ring. But alas, fun video. Seriously should consider some temp chains, quick chains, plastic zip ties or hell, even a recovery board for that beetle. They all keep under the seat..
For some reason I assumed it would be all wheel drive like in Gran Turismo 2 😅. What a waste this car is.
Winter tires are better on ice and snow then all-terrain tires I have winter tires on my front wheel drive tiguan it is nice better then my explorer 4x4 with all-terrain in the snow
just because the tires are "snow rated" doesn't actually mean they're good in the snow. I've been plowing through worse snow in my old golf with studded continental ice contact 2. bought my new TJ with 32" ko2's, couldn't drive anywhere without spinning, bought studded nokian road tires instead and now It's not even close to spinning, tho it looks like it skipped legday..
No winter tires ???
Do it with the Model X!!!
