Been building transmissions well over 35 years, you need to rethink using assembly lube in the pump. The viscosity of the lube you are using will cause the pump to self destruct, you are trying to squeeze jelly through the pump where fluid is made to go. Use a full synthetic engine oil it will mix with transmission fluid. It's a old trick when 618 came out to keep the OD planets together. We actually mixed 4 qts mobile one in the transmission fluid to help with the restrictions of the feed in output shaft before it got fixed by Dodge

Never assume that you have the right thrust washer on the pump until you check end play with a dial indicator! Don't install the clad seals or the pump seal for this measurement. The most forget problem with this transmission is that the spacer ring on the intermediate shaft is worn and everyone makes up for the difference on the top end! Putting your sealing rings on first on the pump is pretty cocky without dry setting the pump and not using a dial indicator.

I bought a project truck without a trans, its a 96 12 valve (Man i'll never buy somebody else's project ever again if i can help it). I bought a rebuilt nv4500 and clutch kit to go with it. Well one of the Crankshaft bolt hole threads is trashed. I ran the correct sized tap through it to clean it out and try to restore the threads but the new bolt couldn't get past 60ft lbs without stripping the female threads that i had just chased. Well i needed the truck on the road so she has 7 bolts in her instead of 8 until i can resolve the issue. It's been 4k miles since...
I am at a loss though. Do i drill it out a fraction larger and try to retap it to a different spec? do I use a Heli-coil? I really dont know what would be acceptable here lol

So here’s a question, I’d really appreciate if you could answer. I just finished rebuilding my 48re and turns out it had a rollerized planetary set (pure luck on a core). I used the tips and tricks in this vid, like the riveting of the sprag, etc. This is my second rebuild. When I did the final air check the last one you did (for the OD) did not sound like or hold air like yours. It held some pressure but you could hear it leaking inside the case somewhere. I do have a Georend case mod where there is a .040” hole from the trans line in-feed into the low/rev sprag. Could this cause it or is it something else? Do I need to take it apart and check and if so where are the problem areas? Thanks, and much appreciated

So it didn’t really help. It holds some pressure, and if you apply air with the ports plugged for about 3 seconds it builds significant pressure but you can hear it bleeding off inside and as soon as you stop applying air but keep the ports plugged it bleeds off in a second or so

It looks as if a 48re just falls apart. For a guy thats use to rebuilding manual transmissions would it be hard to switch over to automatics?

Hey I wondering about the torque converter bushing do you or don’t you have to dent it so it don’t walk forward or the green lock tight doses the job

    Excellent video!
Out of interest, how much did it cost parts wise? Also, out of curiosity, you made a fully manual tranny. Is it possible to go for the full clutch n stick conversion? If yes, why opt for such a rebuild?

When at this power level the automatic holds the power much better!

how much hp can a factory transmission handle and what all do I need for like 700hp

Factory power, I’d do all the small billet parts, gpz clutches, billet input, triple disc converter, deep pan, built VB, and probably an output shaft if it’s 4x4

I think the video was great. It made me NOT! want to jump into my 2000 5.9 Cummins transmission 😁. So I have a question. I bought my 2500 in 2000 new never used it for towing. It's got 141,490 miles on it. It sat for 10 years. I changed the fluids, not the transmission fluid but I did change the filter and 2 qt.of fluid. Now! When I start it cold put it in reverse, I have to wait about 30 sec. before the truck will move. After that it will be okay for the entire day. What Is wrong with the transmission and how long will it last? It's not a 4x4.

Can't imagine loctite on flange of flywheel does any good for anything. I like the orange loctite, holds like red, loosens like blue

No shit,if u buy the $150ish jig it comes with instructions and drill bits.
It looks like they had actually staked the press in sprag with a pin.
