And they're actually fucking playing real instruments, for a change (and when I say "real" instruments, I mean that they're actually manually triggering all the notes/chords/drum sounds, using real keyboards and real electronic percussion, instead of just playing it safe and further fueling the fire that is the overuse of backing tracks in electronic music). Yes, some parts of the music are certainly sequenced, but considering the fact they have like 3 or 4 keyboard players on stage, not much of the music needs to be automated. The less musicians you have in an electronic music band and the more instrument sounds you want, the more you'd have to rely on sequencing; that's why solo electronic musicians pretty much sequence everything in their live shows, because they have more instrument sounds than they can physically play. But the more musicians you have, the less you'd have to depend on sequencing. There are enough members, and therefore enough human hands in the band, to play such highly complex and layered music in the concert. Sorry this comment got so long, just figured I'd share some knowledge :))).
Just stumbled on this by chance ..mind blowing how amazing they still are.. always loved these guys, the real deal that most of todays so called musicians and performers simply don’t have. The league still are and always were the embodiment of COOL ! LOVE EM.
"embodiment of cool", not really, although Dare was a breakthrough album for synth music, Dare with the exception of "don't you want me" was still edgy and political, the women are where considered pretty daggy dancers by the cool kids in the 1980's and many fans thought the original Human League were cooler in many ways.
Thank you so much. Their music is what really got me interested in 80s music. I remember listening to Don't You Want Me Baby for the first time in work and I had this nostalgic feeling come over me, like I belonged in the 80s or something lol. I'm glad you had a great time seeing them perform live though.
Thank you - really enjoyed that. Went twice to the Dare tour and my everlasting memories was how the sound hits you - the bass synth would just batter your chest while the high notes would pierce straight through you.
