I really respect this band. They've been playing these same tunes for 40 years, and they still do them justice. Phil & Susan are in fine voice (I couldn't hear Joanne that well), and what's more: they sing live _really in tune!_ As far as I know, they never lip-sync, it's always a real performance - as here. Hat's off to them; I sincerely hope it's still fun for them.

Not only that but they actually play fucking instruments, for a change. No backing tracks. It does sound like "some" parts of the music are certainly sequenced, but even then, a large portion of the music is played completely live on real electronic keyboards and real electronic percussion. I mean, we have electronic musical instruments that you'd play manually (I should know; I've been playing on electronic keyboards since childhood), so this would make sense. The fact this is the case means that it's really rather appalling that this isn't more common in electronic dance music.

REPRODUCTION & TRAVELOGUE are two of the greatest albums ever recorded by anyone, anywhere in anyone's time.
They hold an extremely important place in my heart and soul.
I was shocked and stunned when I was first made aware of DARE and its commercial sound.
Luckily, HEAVEN 17 released PENTHOUSE & PAVEMENT the same year. It gave FUNK a lot of credibility.
Also in 1981, one of the best Electronic album debuts was released by the mighty awesome DEPECHE MODE with SPEAK n SPELL. RIP Andrew ' Fletch' Fletcher
Currently other other 80's greats are Touring in 2022, OMD, DURAN DURAN, THE FIXX, MORRISSEY, BAUHAUS, BLONDIE, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN, THE B-52S, THE CURE,
SQUEEZE, THE GO GO'S, PSYCHEDELIC FURS, UB40, the list goes on.
Arguably, the greatest decade for quality music.

And they're actually fucking playing real instruments, for a change (and when I say "real" instruments, I mean that they're actually manually triggering all the notes/chords/drum sounds, using real keyboards and real electronic percussion, instead of just playing it safe and further fueling the fire that is the overuse of backing tracks in electronic music).
Yes, some parts of the music are certainly sequenced, but considering the fact they have like 3 or 4 keyboard players on stage, not much of the music needs to be automated. The less musicians you have in an electronic music band and the more instrument sounds you want, the more you'd have to rely on sequencing; that's why solo electronic musicians pretty much sequence everything in their live shows, because they have more instrument sounds than they can physically play. But the more musicians you have, the less you'd have to depend on sequencing. There are enough members, and therefore enough human hands in the band, to play such highly complex and layered music in the concert.
Sorry this comment got so long, just figured I'd share some knowledge :))).

"embodiment of cool", not really, although Dare was a breakthrough album for synth music, Dare with the exception of "don't you want me" was still edgy and political, the women are where considered pretty daggy dancers by the cool kids in the 1980's and many fans thought the original Human League were cooler in many ways.

I was there and really enjoyed this concert. I need to see them again because I'd like to see "these are the days", "stay with me tonight" and some newer or rarer tracks some time.
You can see Dave down behind the right hand stair riser, the man who does the backing track stuff.
That vocal at 04:427 is sung by the keyboard player, you can see him walking forwards just before.
At 23:15 in Human Phil is now singing a lower part, it's ridiculously high and he struggled at that point in the 2002 "live at the dome" recording. Great to hear them all sounding so good.
The only other thing is, why do people spend £70 on a ticket and then spend the concert shouting to their friends?

Hey! Let's video the show on our phones bollocks! Just watch the god damn show. So sad that live music these days is about how many likes or follows you get.

And comments like this are exactly why we have assholes who completely fail to understand 'why' someone would record an entire concert and put it online.
The idea that live concerts have to be experienced "in the moment", and not recorded to be re-listened to, has always been and will always be fucking foolish. It has nothing to do with getting millions of likes/views/whatever. It's about recording a concert to remember it and treasure it, and to provide a concert-like experience for folks who can't go to or don't want to go to the actual concert.
The real problem is when you get folks who record concerts with a recorder that has really, really shitty audio, and then they post such a shitty recording online just to show off the fact that "they were there". That's really fucking stupid. No wonder why such recordings get practically zero attention from commenters/viewers, because such recordings are worthless. Thank god this video on which we're commenting is not one of those types of recordings!
The act of recording a concert itself is not the issue. It's about your reason for making that recording.

It's still better than having no video at all, or a video where the sound quality is so horrible it's not even worth listening to. This video, in fact, had great sound. It was absolutely worth listening to. Also, listen on a good set of headphones or a good stereo system, not some shitty phone speakers. That's just the only way to really appreciate the concert and the audio quality of the recording.
