The 'purpose' of Pulsars of bringing performance to the masses has evolved over the years as we grow financially and dream bigger! I own a Pulsar 180 (2011 model) and I vividly remember how it was seen as the 'big bike' back then and how that perception changed over time... If Pulsars are to remain in ~200cc market they need a new 'purpose' .. or they shud offer performance thats crazy for that segment
@@motorinc as a fan of ns 200, pulsar are Great made for India and right for India motorcycle that apeal and work on a lot of situation from youngster to middle age everyone loves it , what is missing in new pulsar is cool wow factor thye are trying too hard to be perfect just left some rough edges it'll add more carecter
I got my first bike in 2011. It was an all black Pulsar 180 UG4. Shumi's review on Overdrive was very helpful in making the decision. The bike was quite a looker. The engine was anything but smooth, fit n finish wasn't great either. But I really enjoyed it's raw performance. Handling too was decent. Sadly, it didn't age well despite periodic maintenance. Nonetheless, it served me well for 9 years. I used to love it with all it's flaws and I still do. It was this bike that piqued my interest in motorcycles.
@@motorinc it's been parked in the garage for a couple of years now. Has a few issues that need to be fixed. Sourcing parts became difficult during the pandemic. I hope I can get it fixed and ride it for some time before I retire it.
Bajaj has been an integral and emotional part of my family. Even before my birth, that went back with Scooter.. then Kawasaki Bajaj 100 replaced it... Boy... What a machine it was.. i taught myself to ride the motorcycle with it... Then came the Pulsar 150. It has been there with me and my father age 66 and he still enjoys it... Pulasar showed everyone a dream of the fastest Indian... They achieved it...but yes. Everything has an expiry... It might be the time ... For Me... I still have kept Kawasaki Bajaj 100 , pulsar 150 is there and now I'm enjoying the Xpluse 4V...
This style of reviewing is so refreshing. Feels like riding the bike itself. And way better than the typical reviews which says - P150 has a 150cc engine, with 1 kilo bhp and half kilo torque etc.
I agree man, the old Pulsars were damn desirable bikes when they came out... A friend owns a 2007 DTSFI 220 (still breathes fire). The new gen NS and RS should be launched as their own separate brands and not be associated with the Pulsar family anymore.... These bikes if well made may just enhance Bajaj's already great legacy... ❤️🤘. I love my NS btw.. 😀
Agreed and the next gen of the NS and RS should be a flat out performance bikes with all the bells and whistles. With all the Pulsars in the market now, the two should be more premium. They deserve to be their own brands.
Hi, what I feel is when a brand (Pulsar in this case) becomes a success, it creates an impression in the minds with its own set of attributes. Going against its own attributes will definitely dent the perception of people and only create confusion. For instance, I strongly feel that Pulsar should never have come down below 150cc. The 125cc made people to compare it with platina or any other similar bajaj bikes of 125s back in that time (I don't remember the exact names of those other bikes). Same thought came to me when KTM did a 125 saying it as a beginner learners bike. But why do KTM have to do that in the first place when a beginner had other options available in 125. On the other hand we have the RE who never came down below 350cc. So they have maintained that benchmark which truly serves them. Imagine if RE comes with a 100 or 150cc saying it as a beginners bike, it will kill itself as a brand. In nutshell, my point is people look at a brand with a perspective (a set of attributes resulting in a experience or feelings which they relate to). The manufacturers definitely should honour that and upgrade their models with those set of attributes being constant.
So on point! 1. KTM: their requirement was slightly different. The duke brand covers the gamut of street bikes from 125 to 1250. And they’re so well defined a brand (and very carefully crafted) that it could sustain the 125 in most markets. And since it was always made here, it was just easy to decide to sell it here. 2. On the flip side, the smaller Pulsars have strayed from the values of the brand somewhat and it might mean sales in the short term but we believe you’re right. It trades the equity of the Pulsar brand for those sales. Not a great idea.
@@motorinc i so do feel your comment and the OG one!!! There is no set progression of the pulsar brand from lower to higher displacement. Bajaj has absolutely s*** on the brand that ppl swore by. The 125s are based on the older platform, which is still shipping with 150s, while a new 150 platform has been launched; a new 250 platform has been diluted by 160cc variant both of which feel like a downgrade from the older 200cc (itself diluted by a 160 & 125cc variants) platform which has serious fan following even now. Today, nobody is interested in buying a bajaj anymore simply due to this bad habit. Only those with commuter purposes or value needs get a bajaj now. They have only made other brands' jobs (especially ktm's) jobs easier.
Enfield did make bikes smaller than 350cc in Indian to compete with Japanese in the 80s. It was a very beautiful bike that can be found in Goa Enfield cafe.
I still own a 2013 Pulsar 180. The performance it still delivers is beyond expectations. A 10 year old carburetted bike, it still manages to awe people when she leaves most of the competition behind. I don't think aging was an issue or atleast I am lucky. New pulsars aren't the same breed. It's like comparing our fathers to our sons. They are sophisticated but not hard core. I will keep the bike till I have to scarp it. Hope by that time pulsar finds it's true self and doesn't become just another tech loaded sophisticated commuter rather than the holigan it is supposed to be.
My two cents on the Pulsar brand... The original 180cc Pulsar with the round headlight was my dream bike. Loved its design and the aspirational value it brought to the table. Soon after they launched the 150cc then over the years there came the 220cc, 135cc, 125cc. I feel that with such a vast product portfolio associated with a single brand there is way too much fragmentation. So much so that it almost looks like a race to the bottom. As Shumi rightly pointed out the Pulsar was never the bike that answered the common question. But the brand portfolio seems to suggest otherwise.
Yaaron, yeh hota hai informed opinion. And this goes out to the MotorInc video production team. Absolutely digging the stylistic production choices. Fascinating to watch the small steps every video takes towards extra-slickness. Love the black. Love the thought to colours, and colour correction. Hide all the cuts. Add ambience noise to b-roll. This looks 2023.
As someone who has a 06' Pulsar 150...dis resonates... D pulsar brand was an aspirational one... N as u pointed out... D game has moved on... Youngsters want a KTM or a R15...
Wowww!! Great to see a New and Exciting Motor Info Channel... Just found out about it and was more than happy to subscribe!! About Today's Pulsars, as an owner of previous generation pulsars (2) myself, I can definitely say that these are actually more of "Discovers" trying to do more than what they used to do!! These are Not Real Pulsars at all... They lack that Pulsar DNA, they lack excitement, they lack personality!! I had actually written an email to Bajaj after the launch of N250 expressing my disappointment as a Pulsar Fan!! I can sadly say that, unless they bring that originality back, they are losing their identity and losing their old fans!!
Pulsar seem to be going along similar lines as the discover . A closer look will reveal that it is the 125cc pulsar sales numbers that seem to be saving the brand in terms of overall volume. How bajaj differentiates the NS/RS , N/F ,P and classic sub brands and grow them will be interesting to watch.
We’re starting to think that there’s either a very large long term strategy we can’t see right now. Or more likely, we have too many lines of Pulsars and confusion is here to stay for a while.
My Pulsar 180 with the black engine and Black alloys was the 3rd one delivered in Bangalore. The amount of heads that the bike turned was amazing. Now in 2023, I keep saying Bajaj has everything to chase performance. But I think their part ownership of KTM is ensuring that Bajaj as a brand itself is not chasing performance lest it eats into KTM Duke or ADV sales. Imo they should retire the Pulsar brand as it now means an entry level motorcycle. With Hero having hit a home run with the XPulse, Bajaj should do a ADV themselves. The NS200 engines is far better than the 200cc used in the XPulse and would be great in a ADV chassis. Or maybe ore it our to 300cc or use the dominar engine to make a proper ADV. I just don't understand why Bajaj and Yamaha India are still stuck with the 150/200cc segments are refuse to make anything bigger.
Yes, you're probably right. Bajaj has too many moving parts in other parts of the circle and that's clouding the Pulsar's vision. Retire their most stable brand? No, we don't think that can happen. But _performance_ for the masses needs to be more powerful. And an Adv, for sure, is _looooong_ overdue.
@@motorinc well it's better to retire the Pulsar brand if it's going to be a low cc commuter bike. Unless they make a 300/400cc Pulsar to get things rolling again. Times have changed a lot from when 200cc were "performance bikes".
As a kid, i had ridden on the tanks of the Kawasaki Bajaj 4S.. decently powered for the time, and overly efficient. Then came in the Pulsar, but we moved to the Kawasaki Bajaj WIND 125, what Bajaj and Kawasaki were known for - building machines abead of its times.. and i kid you not, that was featherlight and powerful yet breezy bike. While the pulsars dominated the youth and other alike, that’s where India found its first Discover and Platina. Thats where the looks of a pulsar and the power of a 125 were born - to keep the young emerging riders joyous - 125 NS. Right, Shumi 🥺?
The Wind was actually very very nice to ride! The 125NS is a more recent invention. It did sit on top of the aura of the Bajaj Pulsar and the promise of a fast, fuel efficient 125 with excitement.
Very rightly pointed out that the brand PULSAR has been diluted over the time but this is one of the only brands to have survived time and is holding Bajaj afloat. I had bought the fist gen Pulsar 220 Fi and what thrill it was. These days Pulsar has moved to become the mass bike and I guess Bajaj wants it to do that but yes Bajaj needs to get into middle wight 500-650 cc category soon, and you never know, it may end up driving the category.Bajaj should move from offering safe purchases to exciting ones too.
Actually Discover may have survived also, had they not diluted it to an extent where people became confused with products like the 150F, 100 & 125 M, T, ST. When Pulsar made the 125, I thought it actually was a good move, as it basically was the 150 with a smaller stroke. When NS125 launched, I got the same Discover confusion all again. That bike should not exist. Also, if Bajaj hadn't self destructed the Discover brand, they could've used that moniker in their 125s, but doing so now won't do them any good, as the self inflicted damage has already been done.
Iam the owner of 135LS. The bike is light, maneuverable in city, decent power, looks still good specially the tail section. less vibrations, fuel efficient (Right now getting more than 60kmpl on highways). Bike had stiff seats but I modified it and now it is comfortable than before. Iam a guy with just 52kgs weight. Overall Iam really happy. Thats it.
Pulsar was just an emotion for me. I felt deceived for years by the company's strategy to be 'commuterish'. As a grown up I don't see any Pulsar that I can upgrade to. After 17 years of Pulsar, I now sadly have to move to some Japanese brand.
Pulsar started as a wicked bike and ended as a commuter bike. People used to see new tech in pulsars and later all bikes followed it, that factor is no more.
Few thoughts on the film making of the video - What separated power drift when it launched was the dynamic and energetic film language. The flashy cuts, rock bgms and saturated colour grading. It was fresh and went right with the supposed wild nature of motoring. Add to that some deeper insights into the machines and their narrative, it was just perfect. But then they become consistent, a little too much. Not consistency in experience, but consistency in format and film language. Which eventually led to monotony. And seems like they stopped experimenting and became a louder version of autocar india. What i'd love for this channel to become, in my humble and limited opinion, is a Fortnine for India. Great stories told with profound insights that can never come through from just the spec sheets and product brochures, accompanied with inspiring and engaging film making. Even if the visual story telling is'nt too creative, atleast it shouldn't become monotonous. Hagerty does, and old top gear did, that pretty good I think. So what am getting at is this, the hosts already have the profound insights part covered but if you arent careful with the visual language, then you run the risk of becoming another version of PD or autocar. The catchy intercuts, the blue and silver color themes, YT shorts like edits and text inserts with a clean asthetic are rather fresh but it will grow old quite fast. And I hope you guys take care of that. Perhaps am nitpicking and judging too early, but this is only coming from a place of support and hope, to see this channel grow into that always vacant vaccum of story telling (atleast in video) in indian automotive journalism. Looking forward more motoring content
Thanks for having our back Radheshyam! It means a lot to us that you're thinking for our future and want us to keep improving. What we love is the fact that you and MotorInc are in sync. We don't have a visual style we're happy to settle into just yet. We're trying new things constantly and some will work, others won't. But so far? It's been so much fun... so why would we stop! 😀
I'm also very happy I didn't opt for 135 instead of 150, after already owning a 150 for 7 years before that, for one reason only. It was not a Pulsar, it was the XCD rebadged. And the knock on effect of this reason became further reasons - way too flimsy (IMO) & light, 8L fuel tank vs 15L, & the engine & exhaust sound. Simply bought the 150 Classic (which became Neon, exactly 1 week after I bought mine), & today 4.5 years later I'm proudly flaunting my machine. And when P150 launched, I went to a showroom nearby, took test rides of both N160 & P150, and came to the conclusion that the P150 in it's base guise feels more practical & VFM. Then yesterday I watched the next part of this video, which echoed my views. Anyways, not selling my 150 at least within 3 years, so will see what new trick Bajaj decides to show by then. For now, I'm jubilant with my choice.
Pulsar for me was always about that motorcycling passion for a budding rider. Iv never extensively ridden a pulsar, but everytime I saw one it gave off this macho vibe. It was the superbike for Indian middle class before the ktms launched. But the new pulsars, I'm not sure. It just feels soo Bajaj discover like. More than a beginner performer it solts into commuter with a performer-ish kind of thing. Again, just speaking based on how it looks , i hv not had a chance to experience the new pulsars yet. And btw, loving the kind of videos coming out.
It ANGERS me but i will stay soft in words and use the HEART BROCKEN side of me. everytime i leave a pulsar rider in the smoke of my cbr250r i somehow put that guy "whatever sharma" his name is ...whom you interviewed once about the N, F 250""... in a pity place The downfall started when they decided not to launch the SS400 ... The RR310 has destroyed us every pulsar fan and no longer do i need a scooter maker to have my back on streets. I mean what kind of person keeps on changing partners(kawasaki, ktm, triumph)
Went on a window shopping spree at different motorcycle showrooms, enquired alot, no doubt hunter 350 is some where top on the list following with Xpulse and third with NS200, quite strange for a old machine to grab such attention but might be the power or the 6th gear is luring me, but yes NS has turned into a cult classic, its a default consideration among 200 - 350 cc bikes...
Bajaj and Yamaha has do something about their lineup as each and every two hard hitters under their belt. RE has Classic and Himalayan. TVS has more than 2. KTM(Bajaj sibling) rc390 and dukes. Yamaha has great bikes but idk why they just don't want to bring hard hitters home. Bajaj has only Pulsars. That is it. My Dad's first bike was a blue Pulsar with round headlight. I still remember how sporty and great it is. That is not the case now. They found something that stuck with Indian buyers and they literally ran with it.
I have pulsar 125 neon bs6 2021 bike but i have mileage issues and the power and pick up is not enough. The weight should also be reduced. But the positive points are smooth ride quality. Og pulsar muscular Looks, good disc front brake it has a good bite,it comes with a metal tank. I loved the design of pulsar from the start its so sporty one of the best design ever. So i went with pulsar 125 rather than tvs raider.
I live in a place where few years back owning a pulsar meant your are earning well and also young at heart . The perception has changed now peoples have moved on now because the pulsars shape has remained the same for ages no changes just graphics . And the new pulsars are not pulsar people call it the N 160 . The pulsar brand needs to be sorted and I hope it happens soon . Pulsar 125 topping thier sales chart ? Doesn't that eventually mean people no longer associate pulsar with performance and just want the loooks of it to commute ? . Waiting for the video guys good job
Bajaj is the only brand I love. Why because our family had so many good experiences and memories with it. Back in 90s before I was born my dad had a chetak❤️🥹 and in 2003 or so he bought a boxer and then later on in 2008 my dad bought a Discover 135 and later on he then bought a pulsar 200(I just really liked the bike with it's digital speedometer, backlit switches, it's exhaust sound, automatic indicator turn off feature, no kickstart...) what a bike that is ❤️. And then in 2017 he gifted me a pulsar 150 UG3 2010 model which is an excellent bike. I still use it even now I go to office and for daily commute. No bike can replace it. Pulsars are made different ❤️
Hey Motorinc, Pulsar 180 UG3 was the first motorcycle in my family. I somehow convinced my father not to buy a Platina or the Pulsar 150 and it was a fantastic decision. It has worked as a workhorse for the family ever since. Pulsar 180, being my first motorcycle, holds a special place in my heart. I just love the dependability and performance of a pulsar which might not be much in today's context, but it brought a smile to my face whenever I used to rev it. A pulsar back in the day was much more than a motorcycle, it was an emotion. I hope we soon have a 400-600cc pulsar so the performance domain of the new pulsars can be revived. As always, a great video team Motorinc. Lots of love, keep inspiring.
As a Pulsar F250 owner, I think Bajaj have upped their game in terms of refinement. But I am very confused with the company's strategy, I don't know if somehow they are lost in their cause, they came up with Single channel ABS in 250s then brought up the dual channel ABS ones after a few months and I literally felt cheated. Then came the N160s with dual channel ABS and they bragged about it, after a few months again P150. I don't know what they intend to do and am quite worried if the 250s will be discontinued
The 250s have not been the resounding success that Bajaj was hoping for, for sure. But we do not believe there's any danger of them being discontinued. On the flip side, that late arrival of the dual-channel ABS was definitely a strange move.
Hey thanks for the response guys 😊 I am still sad seeing the dual channel ABS, but I love my bike a lot as it's my first bike with my own money. So whatever it is I love it ❤️
@@motorinc well...Bajaj has proved us wrong...just when I was ready to get myself a brand new F250, I am hearing the dreaded news from many dealers here in Bangalore....it's about to be discontinued...have to pity the herd mentality of Indian bikers who rejected a good product like the F250 !!
The pulsar was an exciting bike. I started riding on a 2009 pulsar 150. The pick up used to scare me intially. The ns and rs are a different level. Fun bikes in responsible hands. Disappointed. Apache has stuck to its roots. Here Bajaj refuse to update the rs and ns which are really what pulsars should be.
Growing up I saw many aspire for the pulsars, many didn't get one because their dad thought it was dangerous. I wasn't as interested in motorcycles at the time. By the time my interest grew, pulsars were the commuters that dads now bought for a bit more power. NS and the RS for me represented the excitement that I always say associated with the pulsar, the exciting machines from bajaj. People wanting more power had the dominar to look forward to and owning one made me realize that not everyone is willing to live with its compromises daily, I am but most are not. The new 250s then should be the ones to look forward to now, but I believe that the reason for them not getting much traction is that they feel very "commuterish". When I test rode them I liked them, nice handling, easy engine but it lacked the excitement I was looking for from a 250 class machine. I remember shumi saying in the Dominar vs Gixxer video from PD that those machines needed to be less "do it all" and a bit more focused. For me both of them offered enough excitement that I was willing to put down my money for either of them, stretching my budget. But for the new 250s despite them being much cheaper and being within the budget, I was not
@@motorinc I came from a bs3 platina 100. Was surprised to see that a 250 didn't excite me. The bikes of this platform are easy, but that robs them of the wow factor.
Great video, which also shows all the wrong decisions Bajaj has been taking in last decade. Bajaj as a brand strategy seems to have brought the Pulsars down to the image that Hero Xtreme series kind of has in total ‘200cc and less’ segment….Kind of modern looking, just good performance and great comfort and convenience with options in all segments under 200cc. They probably look to KTM as integrated as high performance arm of Bajaj with hardcore performance reserved for Duke and RC only, and NS RS being detuned version of Duke/RC. As usual, feels awesome to see 220F mentioned again :)) P.S. Aarti would be super proud and stoked to see you in the new avatar, Shumi…. guaranteed. Lots of love.
@@motorinc Already inflation and new changes have pushed the price up to hard to be impressed positions…another 10-12% increase will probably put it in european ktm pricing range….sad for people who want to experience the next levels of performance sports motorcycles in budget.
I own 2010 pulsar 220f...its been more than a lakh kms on odo n still going...i so wanted to buy something more powerful in pulsar lineup but till date i dont think bajaj has got an upgrade to pulsar 220 in real sense. The new series is kinda meh... I so wish there was a pulsar upgrade in 400cc.
I agree totally with you guys. I personally own a 150 BS4 2019 edition and I love that bike specially its RAWness which I think, is THE thing which people buy pulsars for. I also rode the new pulsars, these are great vehicles.. But they certainly lack the chatacter which pulsars are know for...and I actually had the question Are these really the pulsars?
As an owner of an ug3 pulsar 150, I saw it quietly adding things over the years to update it. The new pulsar have it (to some extent) 1. I have always faced a lack of good breaking control. Single disc was not upto the mark. ABS single channel do that quite good 2. The suspension of pulsars have always been on the stiffer side and still exist. I have not ridden the monoshox new p150, but expect it a step up. 3. The older pulsars lacked fi....No idea if they have been implemented or not. Its important as cold start has always been a complains for this vehicle. 4. Finally seat comfort( it has been upgraded). With 2023, my pulsar completed about 8 years. I have been attached to it and came to love it despite its flaws. I am thinking of replacing it with a vehicle having both adventure touring capabilities and city ride with as reasonable as possible mileage...Any suggestions will be appreciated 😅
Thanks for the information! The suspension's definitely much better now. If you're looking at Advs, the one we recommend you check out is Vstrom SX, followed by the 250 Adventure from KTM. And if you can wait, we have more Advs coming later this year too
I think what's missing from today's Pulsars is character exception being NS200 and to my eyes they all look the same except for few changes here and there in hay days of Pulsar every pulsar had a character of its own we had commuter friendly P150, P180 good balance bewteen performance and efficiency, P200 absolute fire cracker also the first one without kick and finally how we can forget legendary P220.....they were all not perfect and had their own set of quirks but these quirks is what differentiated them from each other and gave them a character....I just hope Bajaj resurrect's the spirit of Pulsar rather than doing parts sharing.
As a smaller kid my uncle used to own one of the older pulsar and oh boy it felt so fast it was the first i ever experienced a somewhat fast motorcycle and looked very sporty as well the new one does not seem to have that appeal for me atleast
I just feel we need some more info on the bikes and why you say what you say! I understand that most people here are bike enthusiasts, but for those who aren't, it makes understanding what you say really tough. I could understand what you said, but if I show this video to someone else, there is a very low chance they will understand. I feel these videos are open ended and hope they will be fixed soon. Great production quality though.
Thanks Varun. This isn’t a bike-info video. This is purely a view, Shumi’s view, on what’s going on. The review video comes later. But the intention isn’t to have everyone understand everything. The intention is to find a high quality, thinking audience. That’s why it’s open-ended because we know you’re willing to think for yourself and share your thoughts with us.
The Pulsar 150/180 were distinct and ambitious, standouts in the crowd. The 150 took the CBZ head on and the 180 bettered it. The subsequent 200 and then the 220 kept the charge going and then stabilized. While making a Pulsar for the current market is indeed difficult but what's stopping them from having a lineup of Pulsar 125, 180, 250 and 450 at a step ahead of their competition but around the same price point ? Gathering from the interview Kartikeya did before the launch of the 250, seems like they want us to upgrade from the Pulsar 250 to the Dominar but wasn't that created as an alternative/challenge to RE 350s ? So how can that be an upgrade to the Pulsar? Oh wait, Bajaj wants us to get the Dukes :)
@@motorinc Seems like Bajaj's impression of the ex Pulsar buyer's paycheck is quite optimistic. That impasse has been the gap which should be filled by a Pulsar or even a NS400. Maybe they'll come around when the others like the RTR 310/400 or the Xtreme 400 come to fore but that's quite unlike Bajaj, playing catch up isn't what my impression is for them or the Pulsars.
Daily there isn't much real-world difference. The _slightly_ lighter weight of the Scram can be useful, but not immediately obviously. What else? The new Vstrom 250 is a solid option, especially for daily adventures.
I would buy a pulsar or a dominar in a beat, if they released it again as a limited edition bike with the original styling - round headlamps, naked twin cylinder instrument cluster… it can easily become the scrambler that others are trying so hard to design..
Totally agree with you! Superb observation @motorinc . Quoting you "the games have changed" but I think "keeping up" part has inclined to a whole different direction. Maybe they are trying to do something similar to what happened with designs of Creta and Verna over the years. Which btw were completely new designs and had nothing similar to their previous models. Rather from an owners perspective and as an enthusiast, I think for Pulsar they should have held on to its previous designs and in parallell attempts should have been made to keep up with the trend of reducing the service cost. And honestly with the performance that pulsar brought to Indian roads, it's service cost was just a very small compromise that one had make. Now it looks like a compromise in terms of looks, build, performance.
@MotorInc Absolutely. I totally agree. These aren't Pulsars. I honestly wish that a time comes when Bajaj realises this and brings its USP product back. Mahindra could not do away with old Scorpio. That's why we have a classic and an N being sold in parallell. So does Royal Enfield. Geting ahead with KTM and Triumph is good but sticking to your roots (Pulsars-the real ones/classic) is what helps you in the longer run. @MotorInc Thanks again for talking on this issue.
The NS and RS is what defines pulsar's performance. Sad to see Bajaj not updating them. An update to them would directly hit sales of mt15 anf r15. There is no clarity on the NS and RS now. Whether they'll update or discontinue or sell it without updates. Bajaj who once was classleader in performance and technology is now lagging behind in all the aspects.
@@motorinc That is just the updated with USD FORKS and there is no other change except renaming as Dominar. If that's the only update, then it'll be again the same. Need changes in the age old instrument cluster, led headlight, connectivity features. Not sure what's the strategy Bajaj is following. The updated pulsar 150 has better features than NS and Rs.
Really late biker enthusiast, I really wanted to buy NS 200 my dream or aspirational first bike, during COVID saddest part was NS got discontinued and now, I don't know the new pulsar bike doesn't talk to me it used when I was growing up
"Pulsar" stand for...well..basically standing out. Probably the only challenger to the rise of the Karizma. Even now when we say Pulsar, the image of the Pulsar 150, the Pulsar 200, the NS 200 and the Pulsar 250 always come to the mind. They were definitely 'distinctly ahead' in terms of competition , in terms of love which they brought in making their motorcycles. What I feel, is the love for making the motorcycles and the passion with which they were making them got lost in between the conference room tables and board room meetings. Or at least that is what I feel when I see their linups. Maybe they will rediscover their love soon enough and make awesome motorcycles for the masses #WithACupOfTea
Looks are subjective and we think it’s a bit bland and that shared styling… needn’t have been so. But there’s an notable improvement in both quality and engineering for sure
I agree Bajaj have a little too many bikes. But somehow I feel there is a space for what the pulsar is today. Tell me one more motorcycle in the 250 space that's as comfortable while also being as adept at other things as the pulsar is?
P150 is a confused bike with confused pricing. I mean you already have NS160, N160 in your stable, then why add one more 150cc? Also, rising fuel prices and rapid growth of 125cc sporty commuter bikes, a P125 makes more sense. Great video MotorInc. 💙
Great from you guys!!!. I think we guys are expecting a lot from Bajaj, because they were setting the bar high during the initial days of Pulsars.. but these motorcycles are just good at what they do.... They are refined like never before. These motorcycles don't compete with Apache 4v's which is leaned more towards the performance side. Now they are a great choice instead of The Fz or the Unicorn. There's always a market for these 150's the above bike's sales figures shows that clearly...... Just my thoughts..🙂 Also is there any possibility of 220f making a comeback??
Let's hope the 220F doesn't have to come back. Because it might be good for fans, but it's an old motorcycle that's well past its heyday on _every single front_. As to the Pulsars being more like the FZ/Unicorn... that's what strikes us as strange. It's not what the Pulsar brand represents to us. Would you agree?
Bajaj probably sees the RC200 and RC390 as the market successor to 220F, with changed philosophy but max performant, the greats of segment aura. Hence, they only released the N/F250 sets in ‘good enough for the segment’ performance. As they discontinued the OG when it was selling about 20k a month in the country, they probably won’t return that.
@@motorinc The company announced that, but in effect are giving people products in the segments where once Discover used to be, with modern equipments…. The philosophy Pulsar entered with, and became an icon for, is nowhere to be seen…. 😢Shumi rightly said they may not be a Pulsar at heart.
Can do! Thanks for the suggestion. Having ridden both, we would say they're similar in many "numeric" aspects that actually apply to daily riding. But there's no doubt at all that while the N160 is easier to ride around, the MT15 is generally more exciting to ride... which swings our vote towards the MT. But do take test rides and come back here. We'll always try to help clear up the decision if we can
U just hit the Bull's eye maan!! Just could nt be any better 👌. Just when every one including Bajaj seem to have forgotten what pulsar meant back then. 👍
The hype behind these machines was out of the way for Indian market those days. the tag definitely male. Bajaj adv segment was so good they even stopped adverting also. all stunts and sponsorships. Also the introduction to new models was class...the first one riding on bridge and the DTSi tearing thru it. It always gave me goosbumps. NS was also a worthy sequel
They're aimed at a slightly different rider profile. And if they stay faithful to the idea -- performance, cool, whatever it is -- there's no reason why they should not exist. If they give away their qualities just because they're smaller, then we have a problem
True. I rode the NS125 and the duke, while the NS was peppy and fun duke had all the tech but no personality. Lets not forget the exorbitant price tag😅
Because we don't think bringing the Apache name lower and lower in the value chain does good things for that brand's values. Better to invent and then nurture a powerful commuter class brand.
@@motorinc maybe it was Pulsar characteristic. They need to improve their design, this pulsar also get many upgrades, but in my honest opinion, it still cant compete with others like Honda CB150R, KTM 150, GSX 150.. Maybe it just specialized for India people. And i lives in Indonesia, bajaj sales service absolutely very poor here.
According to me bajaj did wrong in many cases. 1. Introducing too many discovers with an update which the pulsars deserved more. I was ok with the refined vibration free engines but with 4valves? Who needs that in a commuter bike that will barely do triple digit speeds where the extra airflow is required. They kept on introducing 125 M, T, ST and what not. I don't even consider the 135ls a pulsar. That's just a bored out 125 discover for me. They even discontinued them after the sales declined drastically. They even introduced discover 150 with 4valves and monoshock, couple of updates which would have made more sense on the pulsar series. 2. Giving the Pulsar tag to the AS/NS/RS series. This performance segment should have a different identity all together. When the NS was launched in 2012 most people thought that the package the 220 came with, was more practical than what the ns had to offer, which is why the 220 till its last day sold more than the NS. 3. Making bikes heavier/uglier and tyres skinny than competitors. So they end up with bikes having lesser power to weight ratio than the other competitors. All bajaj bikes are heavy and have skinny tyres. They have become heavier with every emission norm update. Ns used to weigh 145kgs wet back in 2012. Now it weighs around 160. The RS looks like an unfinished Lego bike disproportionate from all angles. Weighing 167kgs wet with those skinny tyres I'd prefer the RC200 over this. 4. Not taking advantage of absence of others bikes when the demand is high - why not an RS250 when the king of the segment cbr250r is not there? Why not bring the AS series back with long travel suspension and suitable mods with the domi 250 and 400 engines. There is also no RC250 so a Rs250 would make more sense. We don't need an overweight dominar 250(why this bike exists in the first place?), just put that engine in the RS chassis and change the design. Even the RS400 would do, as it would be a more comfortable sport tourer option against the likes of the RC390. Don't want to say anything about Dominar as shumi sir has said enough. But I'd like the engines in a more cruiser friendly tune and a suitable chassis like that either carries the Avenger tag or the CS400 tag. 5. Now finally about the new gen pulsars. Comparing it with the 150 and the 220 i own, the refinement levels, gearbox functioning, clutch feel is leagues ahead and finally pulsars with mono suspension (excluding ns series) the dual shocks just don't do the job for me. I was waiting for the f250 to replace my 220 but four things that held me back are - 1. Smaller tank. 2. 12kg heavier weight ( mine is a 152kg bs3 model, so not a big difference in power to weight ratio). 3. The engine is perfect but lacks 4 valves for that extra breathability for effortless triple digit cruising. 4. They should have atleast retained the front look as the current one looks like the Suzuki burgman. The P150 except the fact that it looks like just another discover, it performs and handles way better than its preceding model. The front brake could have been better but the target customer mainly our indian uncles prefer to use the rear brake more than the front so that's ok. 6. Last but not the least, I didn't get why all of a sudden bajaj went back to single spark ignition with only the P150 and not the 160/250 series as they mainly focus on putting more than just one in all their bikes.
1. Yes, while the Discover was around, the boundary between the commuter-Disco and the sporty-Pulsar was blurred and we do think this is on point. 2. Bajaj has swung in the past from having just two brands (something they've said is a good idea) to having way too many brands (harder to manage) and then to having two brands with too many things under it (which causes the confusion). 3. Bajaj hasn't always been good at managing weight. If you think about it, all of their steel spar-style framed bikes are extra heavy, including the NS, for example. The new Pulsars, thankfully, are showing that they are working they way out of this situation. 4. Honestly, manufacturers can't do things like this -- it takes too long to make bikes for this reactive process to produce machines. Empty gaps spotted 5-6 years earlier _can_ be attacked, but shorter timelines are very very difficult. But could Bajaj have explored an Adv or a Sportsbike earlier? Absolutely. A D400-engine in a cruiser would, actually, be very interesting! 5. Ouch! 6. Yes, that is interesting, no?
Ah that times pulsar India's no 1 sports bike tag ❤ (220f) hey Bajaj read this caption 100 times and update pulsar line up take that 390 gem 💎 engine and make pulsar u can detune but pulsar blood line should flow in it that the only reason y ns and rs had that cult following mania mania 😢😢😢 even tvs is doing this by the rr310 and hero is also coming into its pace by liquid cooled Karizma 🔥🔥🚒🚒🚒 Y don't u join in automarket to set fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 v have to taught Honda Suzuki and Yamaha that's the reason they r not giving us the more enthusiastic bikes (cbr) and plastic low build mt R15s And lots of love to u guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Happy to see u both 😊 waiting for fight compare reviews of bikes 😁😁😁
We sought performance. Hence Bajaj introduced Pulsar 220. I would still choose a 220 rather than 250's that are present in the market today. Bajaj killed 220 just to scale up the sales of 250's. What if Bajaj would have introduced 250 with the same body as 220 but with increased power figures. I hope Bajaj will keep NS 200 & RS200 alive.
The NS works well in exports so Bajaj does have reason to keep it going. The 250 powertrain in the 220's design is an interesting idea. But engineering it is going to be a headache. The 220's frame was just too long for its own good and beyond a point, its frame and suspension would lose their ability to feel accurate and responsive. Today? That would be a glaring flaw. And to re-engineer that? It's a _massive_ project although it sounds like a weekend of nuts and bolts
Well got the p150 I really love the n160 but there is no option for ladies footrest. So my mom can't sit on it that's why p150 single disc yes it's not look as badass as the n but the millage it's giving is pleasing on the pocket (60+ kmpl village condition not city condition) happy af
I owned a NS200 as my 1st bought bike. Then I replaced it with a RS200. Then I bought RE thunderbird 350. Both target different audiences and both have different use cases and feel. Then RE came with Interceptor 650 and the parallel twin engine and I was sold on that. It was like yeah, An Indian brand has made such a breakthrough & they have created a parallel twin. Though it's not having high compression or better quality materials. But after using very different motorcycles from many a different brands, I have realised that Indian brands don't target performance anymore. Bajaj is targeting for masses and cheap bikes and accessible trickled down technology. But i have yet to see a proper updated & newer generation NS or RS. I can understand Bajaj's dilemma though. The engineer who created the NS platform and designed the aerodynamics of RS is now working at BMW motorcycles. I doubt bajaj can make him come back for such a non technological motorcycle brand. RE aims for maximising profits by not utilising best of the available technology that has been accessible since ages or are required as a mandatory thing for a motorcycle of such cc. But they will do it in 5 years. That's the issue. Plus they don't give the amount of performance that could have been extracted from the same engine and motorcycle, just so it can go on for a long amount of time. I am expecting the same thing that you have said in the video. But I doubt Bajaj will learn anything. Expecting a 500 or 650cc engine from bajaj is useless. That's why KTM shoved the 490 platform. Because Bajaj won't be updating it and will be sitting like a vulture so that the technology becomes lower priced over time & trickles down for them at the same time as they launched the vehicle ie 3-5 years. Let's c, I would be happy if Bajaj proves me wrong & surprises everyone.
Partha! That's a big thought! Organising tech to put into a machine isn't that complicated. You can hire people, or license tech quite rapidly if you're intent on it. In RE's case, they've never played the high-tech game and seem to have settled very nicely into a low-mid tech setup that executes very effectively (their brand doesn't ask for high performance. It works towards good performance at low-mid premium pricing). Bajaj did have the opportunity (the original pulsars were pegged as high-tech machines... at least in their marketing), but as you say, it seems to dissipated.
I don't understand what's the need of this pulsar when they had improved N160 as well as NS160? as usual with Bajaj they will sure be discontinuing few products from their 150-160cc range very soon.
I own a n160 and since when I saw the spy shots of this p150, I strongly believe it should've been a 125. The design and overall dimensions are good for 125cc platform. They should've rolled the dice with this design and a 125cc engine to see the response, as you said most sold segment is 125 variants from the pulsar lineup. Later slowly they could've released this 150 model. This way you don't offend the classic 150 fans and merge this new model well in my opinion. What's your take Shumi on this?
Any manufacturer that exists to "save from giving ABS" needs a reality check pronto. We do not believe the Raider was designed to sit under the 125cc limit for the ABS thing, it's more likely because the segment-leader, the Shine, is roughly that engine size. As to the P150, let's discuss this after our next video? Should drop shortly.
At this point, Bajaj just should scrap everything they have, and do the following: Make one regular city bike (pulsar 150 P design) in 125 and 150 configuration. Call it Pulsar C. and then in 160 and 200 configurations, they should do the following: Make a high torque naked sport bike (pulsar 160 N design). Call it Pulsar S. Make a cruise based semi-faired tourer sport bike (pulsar 250 F design). Call it Pulsar H. Make a tall wheeled quarter faired off-road sport bike (like KTM adventure tuned to new Pulsar design language). Call it Pulsar O. Make a track focused fully faired bike (pulsar RS200 design, tuned to new Pulsar design language). Call it Pulsar T. But... lets do this: For the 160cc, they should get 2 variant: The base, and a slightly expensive Pro (same engine, but additional purpose-focused electronics), and the 200 comes in a single variant - the Pro. What this would do is, if someone wants Pulsar T 160, they'd feel for a little extra money they can get some cool gadgetry and features with the Pulsar T 160 Pro. For someone considering Pulsar T 160 Pro, they'd feel for a little extra money they can get a really better performance due to the extra displacement with Pulsar T 200 Pro. And we keep selling these like hot cakes. What do you think?
Can do! Quick summary: Nearly or actually Best in class products? RTR160, RTR200, Ntorq, iQube S Worth buying without a doubt but not best in class? Jupiter, RR310
For me I love older gen pulsar the looks and stance was way better than new even at this time if you stand Pulsar 150 OG one twin disc with this new gen P150 ,older looks way better and talking about my perspective,. My thinking is Bajaj should retain the older shape but with new engine new equipment, as TVS did with RTR 1602V even 4V is on sale the 2V charts more no. Of sales ,and worst decision Bajaj is ever made is Discontinuation of Pulsar 220F ,The pulsar 220F able to sales no. Of 6-7K per month even at 2021 , And what Bajaj did after introducing 250s they discontinued , and results are there 250's monthly sales are 250-300 units a months which ,is note great at all if Bajaj, relaunch the pulsar 220F with the same Designe ,with 250CC new engine + same Headlight but lED new infinity cluster this bike able to count 10K unit a month easily
@@motorinc I'm not saying that they should cross fit engine , my view is we want the older look ,I know I'm an automobile engineering student, I know the new gen pulsar is better than older one, better engine better features but, they have that pulsar stance I don't think so also agree that ,pulsar 220F IS LEGEND, And giving the successor in form of F250 it's not great you will agree that. F250 is more looks like ,Stunner and AS200 while the headlight is similar to burgman 125 , 😂 but in personal I love F250 coz I want to buy one ,so It was not only for 250 ,the naked version also some how it doesn't have is own identity, lots of people might think it's An MT , And the brand who has bikes like ,Pulsar 150 Twin disc even after 20 years it looks damn good muscular,. Pulsar 220F and NS 200 this are the bikes having another level of fan following and new gen pulsars as an automobile engineering student I know Bajaj has worked on mainly for engine chassis. And usability but interms of looks they should rework on it
@@motorinc Mainly the meter console. It's updated from p220, more modern, time, gear indicator, these things are there. Plus I like analogue rpm meter. Moreover, there is dual channel abs, which was missing in p220. Price of the 250cc bike is very competitive. Performs better than other same category 250cc bikes like yamaha fz25 or suzuki gixxer 250. Well, I still have some doubts because bajaj didn't use bybre brakes, but the 30 odd kms I rode the bike, break bite was fine.
It could also be in the future there will be electric pulsars which will replace the ICE. So for now bajaj is just trying to bring in sales and play it safe. I personally don't think the pulsar NS/RS will become a different category or change names. There is also the triumph-bajaj alliance that will bring some new bikes which I believe will be sold by bajaj as well as triumph just like bmw and tvs. I am sure bajaj has a very close eye on that.
I like pulsar brand but I also have 2 major problems with it, nope its not the usual stuff like reliability and cheap quality of materials used . Here is what I think:- 1. Their treatment of Pulsar 180 which was the original performance bike before 220f made it irrelevant a little bit and then in 2017 or 18 , Bajaj just decided to bolt on the rear tyre , split seats and rear disc to pulsar 150 which killed the 180 even further. Then they did the 180f which no1 asked for, discontinued the og 180 and brought it back when they realised 180f was a mistake. And they brought it back quietly for BS6 with updated engine and new paint schemes. And they again discontinued it now when the N160 arrived . They really did a lot of injustice to the pulsar 180 as they themselves were confused regarding its position or status in the line-up of pulsars . You see the 150 was a commuter , 220f was a old school tourer also a chhapri bike but the 180 it used to be the perfect balance of performance and mileage, practicality, comfort and decent handling. I still hope they bring it back as a Neo retro bike alongside 220 because the engines and platform are potent enough to be overhauled slightly. One of them could challenge TVS Ronin and hunter 350 😅😎. 2. The Curse of 200 twins - NS200 actually used to sell more than RTR 200 4V till they gave it Race edition update in 2018 with Dual channel ABS and slipper clutch, after that NS200 was in the rear view mirrors of Apache Rtr 200 4V in sales every month and year . They never bothered to give it dual channel ABS and slipper clutch or even a gear indicator. If they did that then they would not have to look elsewhere as people would flock to the showroom for it. Then they gave the RS200 dual channel ABS in BS6 avatar and chose not to give NS200 the same which was a mistake as the NS200 always used to sell more than RS200. See the plastic cousin of NS200 was a budget tourer alongside the premium Dominar 400 but that was only until the Dominar 250 arrived after that sales dropped further and now with the arrival of Pulsar 250 twins RS200 has become the ugly plastic cousin of pulsars which no1 really cares about . I mean it has become irrelevant now with lowest sales in the pulsar line-up. I think Bajaj should just stop the production of RS200 and focus on giving updates to the NS200 like USD forks, dual channel ABS variant and gear position indicator . It still has a place in hearts of people unlike the RS200. I don't like the Bajaj fanboys especially the NS200 fanboys because they are really dumb they asked for dual channel ABS variant in 250 twins but they have never bothered to ask for a dual channel ABS variant for the NS200 which has always deserved it for the performance it offers. What do you think about my assessment of pulsar line-up and its unnoticed problems? Please do share your views 🙏 😊
1. Spot-trucking-on! The lack of difference between the 150 and the 180 does grate on our nerves too! That bike truly was special and it never got the status/design side that it needed. 2. Yes, the NS/RS have certainly received a lot less attention than they could have done with. Retiring the RS and updating the NS actually makes a lot of sense. And if you see the Latin American Dominar 200 (which is an NS200 with updates), you can see where the next NS200 is headed today.
@@motorinc I hope Bajaj gives it dual channel ABS, USD forks on gear position indicator like the Dominar 200 in latin American markets in India also because there's a chance they might do that but there's also a chance they won't do it since it is already expensive trailing the price of N250 very closely. But I would love to see that update happen with RS200 discontinued because its a burden which adds to extra costs for manufacturing the same bike slightly different.
The NS/RS came with a powerful new engine and were created as faster motorcycles. The AS was just a design exercise that sat on an otherwise unmodified Pulsar 150/200 and called itself an Adventure Tourer. It added zero new functionality... and we believe that's where it's lack of sales came from
Depends on what you want Abir. The N250 is calmer, easier to ride and more like a commuter. The NS200 is faster, sharper and feels more like a sporty motorcycle. What would be your pick?

The 'purpose' of Pulsars of bringing performance to the masses has evolved over the years as we grow financially and dream bigger! I own a Pulsar 180 (2011 model) and I vividly remember how it was seen as the 'big bike' back then and how that perception changed over time...
If Pulsars are to remain in ~200cc market they need a new 'purpose' .. or they shud offer performance thats crazy for that segment
Yes. That last line is what would really make the Pulsars come alive!
They missed a chance with Dominor
This pacing is perfect just calm enough 😌 and engaging
Thanks Pavan! What do you think about the questions Shumi's asking?
@@motorinc as a fan of ns 200, pulsar are Great made for India and right for India motorcycle that apeal and work on a lot of situation from youngster to middle age everyone loves it , what is missing in new pulsar is cool wow factor thye are trying too hard to be perfect just left some rough edges it'll add more carecter
Nailed it. It's the cool wow factor as you put it. That's what is missing.
Where is that bike now?
@@motorinc it's been parked in the garage for a couple of years now. Has a few issues that need to be fixed. Sourcing parts became difficult during the pandemic. I hope I can get it fixed and ride it for some time before I retire it.
Best of luck! ❤️
What a terrific garage Abhijeet!
@@motorinc thank you... And now my 7 year old son is obsessed with KTM.. keep asking why we don't have one . When are we going to have one... 😀😀😀
This style of reviewing is so refreshing. Feels like riding the bike itself.
And way better than the typical reviews which says - P150 has a 150cc engine, with 1 kilo bhp and half kilo torque etc.
Thank you Pritom!
We agree Prashant! In some ways, the NS is actually what the original Pulsar brand stood for, no?
Agreed and the next gen of the NS and RS should be a flat out performance bikes with all the bells and whistles. With all the Pulsars in the market now, the two should be more premium. They deserve to be their own brands.
Agrrreeeeeeddddd! 600%
For the exact same reason, Pulsar 135 failed. A 'Pulsar' should start from 150cc, not less than that.
Enfield did make bikes smaller than 350cc in Indian to compete with Japanese in the 80s. It was a very beautiful bike that can be found in Goa Enfield cafe.
@@SurajSinghTomarArya wasn't it the silver plus my father said he had rode it from Delhi to Agra in it
I still own a 2013 Pulsar 180.
So well put, Om! Thank you!
Thanks SK! It’s good to see the resonance between our thoughts and yours!
This video is too good! The way Shumi always breaks down the manufacturer side of things is always going to be interesting.
Glad you think so!
I must say that the art direction and editing of these videos are so good! A breath of fresh air in the Indian content with Motorinc. Damn good
Thank you so much Atharva! The team does put in a lot of effort into those aspects and it's awesome to see it appreciated!
Would love to have a comparison between n160 and rtr160 in the same calm fashion😌. Certainly very different from the traditional reviews.

Absolutely digging the stylistic production choices.
Fascinating to watch the small steps every video takes towards extra-slickness.

Thanks Animesh! Made the team's day!
As someone who has a 06' Pulsar 150...dis resonates... D pulsar brand was an aspirational one... N as u pointed out... D game has moved on... Youngsters want a KTM or a R15...
Yes that's the brand value that Shumi says has been eroded
Wow Prasad! It's sad to hear a fan like you see the brand you look up to fall out of sync with you
Pulsar seem to be going along similar lines as the discover .
Great point Saransh! We also love that we're seeing you a lot in our comments!
Thats it.
Awesome! That is a fun ride!
Pulsar was just an emotion for me. I felt deceived for years by the company's strategy to be 'commuterish'. As a grown up I don't see any Pulsar that I can upgrade to. After 17 years of Pulsar, I now sadly have to move to some Japanese brand.
Ouch. We hear you Neel!
Pulsar started as a wicked bike and ended as a commuter bike.
People used to see new tech in pulsars and later all bikes followed it, that factor is no more.
That's it!
i love pulsar like hell but maine 1 bhi n250,160 or f 250 nahi dekhi road pe and that felt really sad 🙁
Really? Kahan ho aap?

Few thoughts on the film making of the video -
What separated power drift when it launched was the dynamic and energetic film language.
Yes, that discover-y thing has been bugging us too!
@@motorinc totally!
I looove this format 😍

Yes, the bikes are damn good now, for sure!
It ANGERS me but i will stay soft in words and use the HEART BROCKEN side of me. everytime i leave a pulsar rider in the smoke of my cbr250r i somehow put that guy "whatever sharma" his name is ...whom you interviewed once about the N, F 250""... in a pity place
The downfall started when they decided not to launch the SS400 ...
The RR310 has destroyed us every pulsar fan and no longer do i need a scooter maker to have my back on streets.
I mean what kind of person keeps on changing partners(kawasaki, ktm, triumph)
Wow. That is a lot of emotion. We've not thought of Bajaj as a company with a string of partners until you pointed it out for sure.
@@motorinc i was waiting for you guys to talk about the Pulsar🙏🏽
Stay tuned! The review drops next!
Even the Dominars are not as exciting as the older Pulsar models were back when they launched
Shumi would say they never were to start with
Went on a window shopping spree at different motorcycle showrooms, enquired alot, no doubt hunter 350 is some where top on the list following with Xpulse and third with NS200, quite strange for a old machine to grab such attention but might be the power or the 6th gear is luring me, but yes NS has turned into a cult classic, its a default consideration among 200 - 350 cc bikes...
Yes absolutely. The NS is the smashing Pulsar for sure
the pulsars seems so pedestrian at this point of time that i only think of it as a commuter the only thing that changes that for me is ns200
This is the issue we’re having. These bikes are now terrific commuters and the excitement of the Pulsar seems to have been consigned to history.
Sad to see the N250 get no love at all! Would love to see Shumi's take on the 250 on this channel ( watched PD too but wanna see here)
🤞🏽
The new Pulsars are excellent bikes.
It's just that the P150 doesn't have that same expressive charm of the OG 150.
That's it. ✌🏽
Very refreshing style video making. Love it shumi
Thank you so much 😊
Bajaj and Yamaha has do something about their lineup as each and every two hard hitters under their belt.
The heavy-hitters perspective is so on point!
Good reasons! But the Raider, it must be said, moves the game on. It's by the best, most impressive 125 out there today and by a fair margin too!
@@motorinc Yes the raider is loaded with features and performance.
Indeed it does! And we're not kicked that a performance/excitement brand like Pulsar represents commuters now.
If given a choice, out of these two bikes which one will be a good buying decision? TVS RTR 2004V OR SUZUKI GIXXER 250 ?
Both are very good motorcycles! The RTR is more exciting to ride and feels quite a bit sportier. The Gixxer is calmer and very capable.
@@motorinc Thanks for your view.
Hey Motorinc,
Pulsar 180 UG3 was the first motorcycle in my family.
Thank you Nitesh! But Bajaj's been pretty clear that 250cc is the cap for the Pulsar
So whatever it is I love it ❤️
Good on you!
As mentioned Bajaj doesn't have a strategy, now they are bringing 220F back 😂 Sales ke liye kuch bhi karega 😁
Roots. What a great reference point they are. Thanks Warren!
But for the new 250s despite them being much cheaper and being within the budget, I was not
Great points Jatin! That’s exactly right. These new Pulsars are so good as commuters. But that lack of excitement…
As usual, feels awesome to see 220F mentioned again :))
P.S. Aarti would be super proud and stoked to see you in the new avatar, Shumi…. guaranteed. Lots of love.
Thanks AK! That logic only works if the KTMs had remained reasonably VFM… with every passing day they’re becoming more and more expensive though
Thanks Archisman! Means a lot to me ❤
@@motorinc Already inflation and new changes have pushed the price up to hard to be impressed positions…another 10-12% increase will probably put it in european ktm pricing range….sad for people who want to experience the next levels of performance sports motorcycles in budget.
i love these story formats. keep em coming
Glad you like them! We've more cooking!
We've heard this before too! But Bajaj seems pretty clear that the Pulsar won't grow past the 250cc mark.
@@motorinc yeah n thats sad for pulsar fan boys
I agree totally with you guys. I personally own a 150 BS4 2019 edition and I love that bike specially its RAWness which I think, is THE thing which people buy pulsars for.
I also rode the new pulsars, these are great vehicles..
But they certainly lack the chatacter which pulsars are know for...and I actually had the question
Are these really the pulsars?
Right on!
Great video as always!
Glad you enjoyed it Daksh!
As an owner of an ug3 pulsar 150, I saw it quietly adding things over the years to update it. The new pulsar have it (to some extent)
1. I have always faced a lack of good breaking control. Single disc was not upto the mark. ABS single channel do that quite good
And if you can wait, we have more Advs coming later this year too
@@motorinc Agreed. Though I will wait for more affordable advs. Under 2L would be my sweet spot.
Our fear is that the brand's so diluted right now, there might not be much left to resurrect.
As a smaller kid my uncle used to own one of the older pulsar and oh boy it felt so fast it was the first i ever experienced a somewhat fast motorcycle and looked very sporty as well the new one does not seem to have that appeal for me atleast
Bingo.
Great logic train which sort of reaches an impasse at the end... if Bajaj wants us to buy the Dukes, how come the prices keep rising? 😆
Yes! Nailed it!
I think TVS is currently doing what Bajaj should've done or what Bajaj started 10 years ago. More performance and features at a reasonable price.
Many people in the comments have said this! Crazy, no?
Do you recommend ns160 2023 ?
We're waiting to test it Hamza... soon!
@@motorinc will be waiting for your review too👍
Good one Shumi. ❤️
Thanks for the audio overhaul
Thanks TRP!
I miss the days when Pulsar was just a 150 only. Now it's a mess and a headache to choose which one to get or recommend someone.
♥️
So, 150cc was the enthusiast segment back then. Now it is higher, so they have to build a bigger Pulsar b/w 300 to 500 range.
💯
Is Scram a better daily - adventurer than Himalayan? Or am I missing other options in this price range.
Daily there isn't much real-world difference. The _slightly_ lighter weight of the Scram can be useful, but not immediately obviously. What else? The new Vstrom 250 is a solid option, especially for daily adventures.
@@motorinc thanks 👍🙏
I would buy a pulsar or a dominar in a beat, if they released it again as a limited edition bike with the original styling - round headlamps, naked twin cylinder instrument cluster… it can easily become the scrambler that others are trying so hard to design..
Interesting thought!
Let's see what time tells us. But our feeling remains that these _aren't_ Pulsars
We expect that the Brazilian "Dominar 200" will come to India as the updated NS/RS. Take a look and tell us what you think?
@@motorinc That is just the updated with USD FORKS and there is no other change except renaming as Dominar. If that's the only update, then it'll be again the same. Need changes in the age old instrument cluster, led headlight, connectivity features. Not sure what's the strategy Bajaj is following. The updated pulsar 150 has better features than NS and Rs.
Agreed. But that D200 is what we think will arrive as an update
Really late biker enthusiast, I really wanted to buy NS 200 my dream or aspirational first bike, during COVID saddest part was NS got discontinued and now, I don't know the new pulsar bike doesn't talk to me it used when I was growing up
Discontinued? Are you sure?
"Pulsar" stand for...well..basically standing out. Probably the only challenger to the rise of the Karizma. Even now when we say Pulsar, the image of the Pulsar 150, the Pulsar 200, the NS 200 and the Pulsar 250 always come to the mind. They were definitely 'distinctly ahead' in terms of competition , in terms of love which they brought in making their motorcycles.
What I feel, is the love for making the motorcycles and the passion with which they were making them got lost in between the conference room tables and board room meetings. Or at least that is what I feel when I see their linups.
Maybe they will rediscover their love soon enough and make awesome motorcycles for the masses
#WithACupOfTea
We hadn't thought of it like that... a more business-like approach to a made-with-feeling kind of motorcycle...
Or had we? Stay tuned TSS!
@@motorinc Oooo.....my Spidey sense is tingling!!!
Expecting same for RTR Family also
When they make new ones... sure! But suggestion noted and added to the idea board!
Contrary to most people i feel like the P150 is a very well put bike, and miles better in terms of looks from the previous one
Looks are subjective and we think it’s a bit bland and that shared styling… needn’t have been so. But there’s an notable improvement in both quality and engineering for sure
I wish pulsar brings back 180 edition with a bang!
♥️
I agree Bajaj have a little too many bikes.
But somehow I feel there is a space for what the pulsar is today. Tell me one more motorcycle in the 250 space that's as comfortable while also being as adept at other things as the pulsar is?
The FZ. But not contesting your point - it is a very nice bike for sure.
However peaceful Shumi is trying to sound, it is evident that he's frustrated with the muddled Pulsar models and the performance dilution.
The peaceful delivery, we believe, allows him to be clearer... despite any powerful emotions being play, actually
P150 is a confused bike with confused pricing. I mean you already have NS160, N160 in your stable, then why add one more 150cc? Also, rising fuel prices and rapid growth of 125cc sporty commuter bikes, a P125 makes more sense.
Great video MotorInc. 💙
Thanks Manshoo! You're forgetting the old Pulsar 150 remains on sale too! Bajaj did say they'll be withdrawn but didn't give a clear timeline for that
Shumi looks like a badass 😎
Thank you! We'll let the badass know!
Just my thoughts..🙂
Also is there any possibility of 220f making a comeback??
Not really. At the launch, they were pretty clear that the 220F was being replaced by the 250s
@@motorinc Completely agree but as motorcycles they are good, but how will the brand pulsar move hereafter if this is not the right way...
@@motorinc The company announced that, but in effect are giving people products in the segments where once Discover used to be, with modern equipments…. The philosophy Pulsar entered with, and became an icon for, is nowhere to be seen…. 😢Shumi rightly said they may not be a Pulsar at heart.
Need N160 vs MT15...kindly make one video on this.
Thank you Vishnu!
Well said
What’s your opinion on smaller bikes that imitate bigger siblings? I mean the likes of the 125s of duke, RC, NS
I wonder why TVS named their 125 as raider and not something under Apache series considering how important was this for them...
Because we don't think bringing the Apache name lower and lower in the value chain does good things for that brand's values. Better to invent and then nurture a powerful commuter class brand.
Speedometer is cool
No upside down? Well, still acceptable
Middle to front looks fine
But,, middle to tail looks horrible.
We're still asking why they all needed to look the same at all?
Ah that times pulsar India's no 1 sports bike tag ❤ (220f) hey Bajaj read this caption 100 times and update pulsar line up take that 390 gem 💎 engine and make pulsar u can detune but pulsar blood line should flow in it that the only reason y ns and rs had that cult following mania mania 😢😢😢 even tvs is doing this by the rr310 and hero is also coming into its pace by liquid cooled Karizma 🔥🔥🚒🚒🚒
Y don't u join in automarket to set fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 v have to taught Honda Suzuki and Yamaha that's the reason they r not giving us the more enthusiastic bikes (cbr) and plastic low build mt R15s
And lots of love to u guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Happy to see u both 😊 waiting for fight compare reviews of bikes 😁😁😁
Thanks Rajesh!
@MotorInc Thats why I have subscribed to MotorInc. Glad to hear from the mouth of experience people.
Well got the p150 I really love the n160 but there is no option for ladies footrest. So my mom can't sit on it that's why p150 single disc yes it's not look as badass as the n but the millage it's giving is pleasing on the pocket (60+ kmpl village condition not city condition) happy af
You're sure no aftermarket option for a side step can be fitted?
@@motorinc yes there are one from DURIOR.. But that's too small for my liking and mom's age is 62 and weight around 70 so can't take risk
I owned a NS200 as my 1st bought bike.
Then I replaced it with a RS200.
Then I bought RE thunderbird 350.
Both target different audiences and both have different use cases and feel.
Then RE came with Interceptor 650 and the parallel twin engine and I was sold on that.
It was like yeah,
An Indian brand has made such a breakthrough & they have created a parallel twin.
Though it's not having high compression or better quality materials.
But after using very different motorcycles from many a different brands,
I have realised that Indian brands don't target performance anymore.
We shall see! This introduction/discontinuation cycle is probably what ended the Discover
Nice one Shumi. Now need a talk on RTRs. Please let Kartikeya take the stage.😭
Thanks Navin! Suggestion noted!
Also they could've managed to save from giving abs like TVS did Raider 124.8cc engine just to be in the specs
Shumi Sir .... 🔥
Thanks Harsh!
Dukes are the old pulsars ,new pulsars are the torque of the town 😜😜
Ahahaha! Too clever you are!
@@motorinc hey,one personal question, how often do we have to clean the interior of cars,is it once a week or a month
At this point, Bajaj just should scrap everything they have, and do the following:
Make one regular city bike (pulsar 150 P design) in 125 and 150 configuration. Call it Pulsar C.
and then in 160 and 200 configurations, they should do the following:
Make a high torque naked sport bike (pulsar 160 N design).
But... lets do this:
For the 160cc, they should get 2 variant: The base, and a slightly expensive Pro (same engine, but additional purpose-focused electronics), and the 200 comes in a single variant - the Pro.
Hello Shumi !!
A humble request to talk about TVS and how should we consider TVS products among various segment / needs please !
Can do! Quick summary:
Nearly or actually Best in class products? RTR160, RTR200, Ntorq, iQube S
Worth buying without a doubt but not best in class?
Cross-fitting engines is easier said than done TBH. We wish it was that simple... but isn't
And usability but interms of looks they should rework on it
Yes. The styling can definitely be improved. By miles!
After riding the pulsar f250 eclipse edition, I think pulsar has got features that were missing in the iconic p220.
Explain please? Which features?
Could it be, then, that Bajaj are just way too busy for their own good? KTMs? Triumphs? And their own bikes? Just too much?
I like pulsar brand but I also have 2 major problems with it, nope its not the usual stuff like reliability and cheap quality of materials used . Here is what I think:-
Can you do a full review of the n160? Would be really helpful. Thanks!!
Have you seen this? ruclips.net/video/AhjFRsFoHGw/видео.html
@@motorinc Yes but that's a comparison video. I was thinking of a detailed review of the n160...
It’s probably not going to happen. But if you have questions, we’re happy to answer them right here!
Pls make a video on the original cbz and Karizma too. Those are and were cult bikes of the time.
Good idea! Thank Rohit!
One big question I still cannot understand: Why are they two different motorcycles?
Hopefully, we can clarify that a little bit in the next video. Stay tuned!
Why pulsar 200 AS didn’t perform well in the market while the NS and RS are praised so much?
The NS/RS came with a powerful new engine and were created as faster motorcycles. The AS was just a design exercise that sat on an otherwise unmodified Pulsar 150/200 and called itself an Adventure Tourer. It added zero new functionality... and we believe that's where it's lack of sales came from
Which is better ns 200 or n250?
Depends on what you want Abir. The N250 is calmer, easier to ride and more like a commuter. The NS200 is faster, sharper and feels more like a sporty motorcycle. What would be your pick?
@@motorinc very confusing I love the look of n and character of ns .. 2023 ns dont get led only usd (Brazil)..
