Where did you buy your chisels?

I use Dastra (which I sell on my website, but am very low in stock) and also I buy Woodcraft's Preil brand. Stubai is also a good brand. They can be bought online. German, Swiss and Austrian - they've been making woodcarving chisels for generations and have figured out how to do it right!

This is basswood - a great wood to start with. (Also called Lime and Linden)

I tried your simple technique but my results are nowhere near what a flower looks like :-)
I better go back restoring motorbikes

There are times that I draw the design directly on the wood, but most of the time I draw it on paper first, then trace it onto the wood with carbon paper. Another way to transfer is to use a photocopy, turn the page upside down, and rub with mineral spirits and the design is transferred to the wood. Magic!

I recently added other videos on RUclips but have been unable (for some reason) to include them in this channel, so I started another channel. If you search "Mary May", 3 new videos should show up - sharpening a curved gouge, carving a simple flower, and basic carving cuts. If you are a subscriber, please subscribe to the new channel also, as that will be where I will add any new videos. Sorry for not being very computer literate on these things.

Thanks all! If you go to my web site (google Mary May Carving) you can see the complete video on my online school. It is available in the free videos, and if you want to see more advanced projects, the cost is $10/month.
