      I love doing that with spicy pepper/onion relish. In a pinch, I'll do that with plain hot pepper jelly. But the relish is better.

      @@AK-jt7kh the pepper/onion relish I recommend is Dickinson's. It's discontinued as far as I can tell. I bought a bunch of jars a while back when I heard/read rumors about the company being sold off to Smuckers. On my last 3 jars... 😕
      Not having any good luck in finding a decent replacement.

      @@AK-jt7kh huh... idk what happened to my reply re: hot pepper jelly. I like Stonecreek Kitchen's version. Sweet but a nice tingly spice all over inside my mouth and not in the back of my throat which I don't like. There are DIY recipes for it. Just keyword search on hot pepper jelly. Some just use cayenne powder, some use actual peppers like jalapeños, fresnos, habaneros... depends on how hot you like your jelly.

    Scottish man is right. The only proper excuse for leaving a tamale half-eaten is dying mid-tamale.
    And it is "peh-KAHN". A "PEE-kan" is the old coffee can your dad kept in the bed of the pickup for the family's long drive up to Meemaw's house in the country so he didn't have to stop.

      Some parts of the South do pronounce it "pee-can" - I'm in the Midwest and have always said it "peh-kahn" - I worked at a restaurant and was helping a family visiting from the South, and one of the women interrupted me to proclaim: "Young lady - it is pronounced *pee-can* - you are saying it wrong!"

    Gbenga has nice posh accent. I haven't had divinity in decades. My mom used to make it but she gave up since she was the only one that liked it.

    Talia, I noticed Chris almost broke into that great scottish accent a few times. Tell him to just let it out. My ancestors were scottish (yeah, they gave me my red hair), and next to our southern accent, scottish is my second favorite. :)

    I was born in Biloxi, MS. I left MS at the age of 8 days old. Last year was the first time I was in Biloxi since I was 8 days old back in 1963. So, I will be back.

    My grandmother made homemade divinity every year for Christmas and for my birthday 🎁 it was the best. Better than any store bought divinity

      Making divinity is almost like nuclear chemistry...wrong temperature/humidity/ingredient and it all goes wrong (think white diarrhea)

    Tamales 🫔 for anyone born and raised or has lived anywhere in the Southwest or West coast know tamales aren't simply snacks, thwy can be meals unto themselves as well as paired with any number of foods like beams, meat, elote ( boiled or grilled corn that is slathered with mayonnaise so that the parmesan, or Oaxaca cheese, chili powder can adhere to the corn on the cob and either a sqeeze of lemon or lime juice either fresh or from a bottle. That's some good eating

      @@ildikoprepperkitchen Born and raised Angeleno here, and just about every LA native from Lincoln Heights, Boyle Heights and City Terrance in East LA, to Bell Gardens, Lynnwood, Compton, South Gate, Elysian Park, South L.A has woken up to or has memories of being awaken by the sounds of either someone pushing a cart down the street or some driving down the street on a Saturday or Sunday morning 🌄 yelling "Tamales 🫔 Champurrado", Growing up, trust me.

    Divinity is not supposed to be soft it supposed to be a little hard melt in your mouth as you bite into it. It also has to be made on sunny cool dry day or it doesn't turn out right it will be soft and mushy.

    Moved from Texas to Mississippi when I was eight. Daddy's company transferred him. Mama was Cajun. Jalapeno's and Louisiana Hot Sauce have always been pantry staples. One of my favorite snacks is a saucer full of pickled jalapeno's. Don't need crackers, but crackers with cheese and jalapeno's are tasty.

    The best Tamales in Mississippi come from Doe’s in Greenville or Cicero’s in Stoneville. The Delta is a wealth of amazing food!

    you can find some version of all that in most all the southern states, at your local fairs,festivals, fleamarkets and road side produce stands. or you can make it at home like i do.

    You need to try south Louisiana cracklins (fresh fried, NOT bagged pork skins) and fresh boudin balls. The best I ever had was at convenience stores in Krotz Springs and Opelousas.

    Since divinity is mainly egg whites it could be that pecans are just too heavy to mix in and are better as a crushed topping

    I have lived in Mississippi my whole life. The only thing in this video I have tried is the divinity. It is best fresh made, not from a package.

      Where I work we have a decent one. But it's only for commercial kitchens. Otherwise, most definitely I refuse to eat a salad or an onion ring when i go out to eat. Can't trust these bottled comebacks
