@@eBayMiniatureRescues yeah mate that’s the one! Great to hear the stories from the people who were creating these miniatures that we know and love from back in the day!
I remember even back in the 90's thinking that it was weird that the Necromunda models had the normal Goblin Green bases. I believe they had a throwaway line in one of the books that's 'maybe some abandoned hab domes in the hive still have grass'.
From the look of the heavy stubber and the M16 the sergeant carries, I think someone at GW thought it would be cool if the Van saar were Rhodeisian. (The Heavy stubber looks like the Rhodeisian FAL)
Possible, but the British Army used the FAL as well, and given that the SAS/SBS also used M16 type rifles, perhaps the inspiration came more from the Falklands War blended with Aliens since there's a whiff of Smartgun and Pulse Rifle there as well? Rhodeyboos weren't really that common back in 1990s Britain but loads of 10th/15th anniversary documentaries about the Falklands were. Just feels to me that in the land of the Teaboo, perhaps Britannia rules the waves....

very nice result. I'm guessing the ones with the hardest skin to paint where the two Juves as the where usually sculpted to be more youthful so less defined line work . Van Saar are my fave gang. as they have that high-tech look , you should see if you can get the later metal confrontation (I think that's what it got renamed) gang mini's they still have the same aesthetic as the 95 line but with the addition of all the weapon options being on separate hands so you could equip them accordingly , I'm pretty sure all the main gangs from the game and the expansion outlanders got this update.
Thanks! Yeah some of the softer faces were hard to pull out details on, the color at least works, but there were some where the heads had weird proportions too, so it was kind of a mixed bag. Good old hand sculpting! Still, I like them, they feel right for when they came out :)

Dang, you're going to shame me into finally finishing off my Escher and Adeptus Arbites gangs from the same era. They're around 80-90% complete. I do still have my 3 sets of Necromunda terrain though.
Ah the memories. The Van Saar were my first gang. Used to have a lot of gangs for the original Necromunda. Now not a lot of rhem are left. I do have my Chaos Coven, my Ratskin Renegades, some plastic box set Orlock and Goliaths. Maybe a few other strays. But I do have my original box, the terrain, and the books for the game. The Van Saar gang is known across Necromunda for their bakeries, because dang look at all that cake.
Can i point out there are a few of us 'old timers' still around.
More than a few I'll wager. I have a mint sealed box of these Van Saars I'm going to put on eBay soon.
Right I bought those when they were new. Lol
I'm nearly fifty and remember when Necromunda came out, I was a GW employee at the time.
Almost 60. Still play 40K every once in a while.
lol, for sure, it's just crazy to me that I started in the hobby so long ago. Saying 25+ year old minis is just insane to hear out loud.
It hadn't occurred to me before (despite being around when these minis we released) that Van Saar wear the Stillsuits from David Lynch's Dune.
I don't know that there is anything official on that, but man do they look like stillsuits! Pretty cool inspiration for sure!
Love the hazard stripes on the chainsword. That's 90's GW AF 👍
That was supposed to be a power sword. I got it from a Space Marine plastic weapons sprue.
I really like Gary Morley’s sculpts, seen him on a pod cast once before too and he seems a really nice bloke
