      The firefighters that initially removed the victim were not “in full hazmat gear”. They were wearing their normal structure firefighting turnout gear and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. If they would have been wearing full hazmat gear they would have been in a fully encapsulated Class A HAZMAT suit with their standard turnout gear and SCBA underneath. Later several firefighters did put on what looked like disposable Tyvek chemical suits with their SCBA on the outside to bag up the firefighters turnout gear that removed the victim, drum up the chemicals, and decontaminate the immediate area.

      Once they vent the car it's diluted by the air around it. If the victim wasn't already dead he's not made enough to severely contaminate the city block enough to keep peds out of the immediate area unless they think bomb and then that's different but the note says this was self-unsubscribing.

    How many Haz Mat units are there in FDNY? How many members on each team? NYPD have Haz Mat teams?

    • @robertschultz6922
      @robertschultz6922 6 дней назад

      So FDNY has a tired system. Several units have a second piece that is used for hazmat incidents but the normal duties are normal fire related. They have one full time hazmat unit(Hazmat one) and every shift six or so hazmat tac ambulances that are meant for these types of situations in addition to normal paramedic calls. There are also several special units for deccon, and what not but they are not fully stated, and will be sent to the incident by either their parent company or a light duty fire fighter. FDNY is one of the best equipment departments in the us for large scale hazmat operations. The police department doesn’t have a special unit only for hazmat calls. Thankfully they are rare

    • @robertschultz6922
      @robertschultz6922 6 дней назад +1

      If an incident is minor then the Htu responds with their second unit, so one engine and second piece. As the incident scale increases then more units are called including hazmat one. If entry is necessary then a technical deccon unit response is activated. The hazmat battalion will respond to larger calls too. If there are patients then a hazmat tac ambulance response is called and if there is a lot of people needing deccon then a deccon mass shower unit responds. Again it all depends on the size and make up of the call. A lithium battery fire may not need a full response, but something like this one gets a full response.

    From the UK, thank you for filming this incident, however had this happened here in London, it would have been dealt with differently. First they most probably would have treated it as a terrorist incident, the police would have cordoned off the whole area. Senior officers from all three services (Gold Command) would liaise as to what action should be taken. If there is a life risk, Ff wearing BA would quickly go in and drag person/persons to safety where they can be washed down. After that no one is allowed into the inner cordon unless they are wearing gas tight suits plus BA. Once there is no life risk, the police or the Fire Brigade will then establish what the chemical is, at no time are the general public allowed anywhere near the incident, probably kept two blocks away regardless the time of the day. Once its safe, specialist teams would carry out decontamination on all personnel who were physically involved with vehicle and the casualty. The crews would be undressed standing in large plastic bags which are sealed before they can return to there vehicles. The police might ask for the Fire Brigade and Ambulance Service to standby until it is declared safe. As for you sir filming so close, with no protection........................please think twice before filming at scenes like this because it could have gone terribly wrong for you.

    I guess the paramedic, who hopped right in with the patient, had no concerns about being harmed himself?

    • @FDNYResponseVideos
      @FDNYResponseVideos  6 дней назад +8

      The patient had been stripped and decontaminated with a hose line before being placed in the ambulance. This negated any residual gas on the patient.

    Someone explain why, we're ALL the car doors opened in a residential street if they weren't sure what kind of gas they were dealing with? FDNY should have taped up car doors and tow the car to a field or out of the city, then open open the doors! That was a bad idea on airing out the car right there if you ask me.
