- We are diving back in to the DC world today with Justice League Dark! THIS MOVIE STARTED OFF CRAZYYY. And can I just say I am a Zatana stan, she is so cool, I love her powers so so much. I can't wait to see more of her!

Fun fact - Zatanna’s father is Giovanni “John” Zatara, who first appeared in comics in 1938, in the same issue as Superman’s first appearance. So, as a character, he is older than Batman. From the beginning, he used the same backwards speech for magic that Zatanna uses.

Yea idk why they did that. Alan Moores run had already established the Swamp thing was never actually Alec Holland. This movie ruined that aspect of the character
The magical aspect of the DC Universe is quite fascinating and I really enjoyed this film for introducing me to that aspect of the DC Universe, including the brilliant casting of Matt Ryan as Constantine and Camilia Luddington as Zatanna (who is probably one of my favourite female comic-book hero, she is just such a likeable and fun character). I also learned more about other magical based DC character's from this film like Swamp-Thing, Etrigan/Jason Blood, Deadman, Felix Foust, Dr Fate, Spectre, Eclipso, etc...
I knew about etrigan from the batman tas, but I was new to swamp thing and even constantine.
I love magic in dc its so powerful and epic 😎
Not sure if you remember that the demon Etrigan was in the Flashpoint film.

That’s what always puzzled me whenever someone in this world questions something but yet forgets there is a team of superheroes that have an Amazon woman, aliens, a man with a magic ring, a kid who uses magic to turn into a bigger man, a half human/half cyborg, a man who runs fast, etc. Reminds me of an episode of Justice League when John Stewart and CCPD questioned Flash on whether or not he saw a talking gorilla and he points out to John that they have the phone numbers of 2 aliens and an Amazon woman.
What I think Batman was TRYING to say was that "Not every death has ties to aliens or the supernatural some people are just genuinely insane and overthinking doesn’t help"
@@K1ng1995 nope. Batman was jumping to conclusions and didn’t want to believe that could happen. Heck in the show Justice League the team didn’t believe Flash at first when he said he saw a talking gorilla and had to remind John (green lantern) that they have an alien and Amazon woman in their contacts

Keanu Reeves played John Constantine in a live action film, but he showed using very little magic and more so on his occult detective aspect. He also lacked the British accent.

I never saw the movie all the way through, but I remember him using a crucifix-crossbow. Which after seeing this version of Constantine and the show, I can't bring myself to watch that old movie.

@@yazidboufous6541 I'd suggest Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing run. The New 52 runs by Snyder followed by Soule are pretty good as well. If you want to start from the very beginning I suggest the original storylines by Len Wein/Bernie Wrightson.

This is one of the best New 52 movies, a big part of that is because of Matt Ryan as John Constantine. The voice actor played the character in live-action on his own show prior to this but it was cancelled after only 13 episodes because of executive meddling from NBC. Luckily, the show got cannonized into the Arrowverse amd after this movie, Constantine returned to live action on Legends Of Tomorrow
Love that for him.
And now I can't imagine a different person playing him, in live action or voice actor.
Sadly WB are looking for a "non white" actor to play Constantine in the solo movie in 2024. Riz Ahmed is one of the potential candidates.

They would usually would just say if the character was cast by a minority, they just "we felt that he/she felt more suited for the role." Now they are purposely counting out white people for a role for a character that was orginally white.

There is a solo Constantine animated movie that takes place in this universe but it doesn't really connect to the universe as a whole and it's unclear when it takes place
I think they did recognize it as part of the DCAMU.
I thought it was the continuation of his live action series and that universe just in DCAMU form? Sort of like Vixen from the CW one.
@@TheJackedOLantern thought so too but it seems even Wikipedia had it listed in the DCAMU. And sort of is tied to the live action show due to Matt Ryan voicing Constantine.
@@TheJackedOLantern I did as well but one of the writers said it isn't a continuation of the series and that it takes place in DCAMU.
This is my FAVORITE animated film. Thanks to Constantine. I love the character and the man who voices him, but also portrays him on Legends of Tomorrow, Matt Ryan. He IS Constantine, through and through. The next film in the Dark series is a trip!!!! Enjoy this DC animated adventure. It is amazing and addictive. 😄😄

Constantine is the MVP of this movie. Ever since the Constantine series, which was cancelled WAY too soon he became my 2nd favorite character of all time after Batman. This is in large part due to Matt Ryan’s amazing performance as John Constantine. There is no one else that I can ever see as John Constantine again.

They all have different magic bcuz of what they use to cast. Zatanna uses backwards magic, John uses ritual magic, etc.

Constantine didn't merge with Jason, he just took over his mind to get him to chant the spell that transforms him into Etrigan.
Non powered heroes tend to be portrayed with higher willpower. They are, after all, humans involved in a world of nightmares.
An exception would be magi and telepaths, psionics, etc.

I really dig Etrigan, I hope he’s in the next Injustice game. I think he and Constantine were both supposed to be in the second game but they didn’t use them. Also Zatana is easily the hottest looking chick in any of these new 52 films.
But Etrigan died in Justice League Apokolips.

Batman in comics knows about magic and has some proficiency in recognizing, even using it. But he does not like it because it works on rules that do not get along with his rational mind.
Edit: You do NOT want to be a mage in DC universe. They all pay a terrible price for what they can do and only do it because they are naturally born with those powers and need to control them or are addicted to that power. John Constantine got himself a blood transfusion from a demon to power up spells he could not handle before and while he tends to manage to save the world occasionally it is always a close call and those around him end up dead and their souls either damned or devoured. He is a conman, a liar and whenever he cares about someone he drags them to his life, that they cannot handle. There is a reason he is a star of comic series Hellblazer. No one who is around him for any length of time escapes unscathed. Zatana is one of the most powerful magic users in DC and is constantly in danger of losing herself like she almost did in this movie. If John Constantine did not snap her out of it she would have damned herself just to take out a mage they they would have handled anyway with sheer numbers. Raven is also using magic powered by her demonic heritage and if her emotions go out of control she risks summoning her father and end the world. Ragman wears a mystical cloak that consumes souls to allow him to be a superhero but he is connected to those souls so their suffering and sins are constantly with him. Swamp Thing is a plant avatar that is based on a scientist that was murdered and is constantly haunted by his past life he cannot get back, lack of soul, since Alec Holland is dead and control of Parliament of Trees that constantly want him to just go brutally destroy anything and everything damaging the greenery of THE WHOLE PLANET. Doctor Fate who is considered to be the most powerful magical hero in DC is possessed trough his helmet by a Lord of Order Nabu that forces him to meddle, usually with best intentions, in lives of others while being destructive to his own sanity. Using magic is not a curse in DC universe and not all of it is dark, but it is difficult and it is a burden, especially since it attracts the attention of wrong kind of beings to the user. Speaking of which, those three demons you saw in this movie are Raven´s brothers, Sons of Trigon.
True, Batman denied magic at first. But he knew he was wrong and wanted to go discover this thing himself, so he went to Zatanna and Constantine.

Fun fact: Zatanna and John were involved in a coven with a powerful magician named Nick Nolan who they were both in a relationship with. Though it wasn’t the healthiest since Nick was obsessed with a cult and if I remember correctly he was also significantly older than them. Though unhealthy dynamics have always been a part of John Constantine and the Hellblazer series in general

There is a live action Justice League Dark project being lead by JJ Abrams for the DCEU. So there’s a lot to look forward to with these characters in the near future.

If you want to know more about Swamp Thing, I recommend watching the DC series 'Swamp Thing', it was sadly cancelled after one season due to some budget reasons but goddamn it is definitely one of DC's best shows alongside Doom Patrol. Its dark, gritty, good story and acting and has pretty good cgi. Please check it out if possible.

Dead Man is the guy with the white face. He has the power to possess people. Zatanna is the magical Woman. She practices magic by saying spelles backwards or like pig Latin. Etergan is the Demon character with red eyes. He has the soul of a Arthurian Knight fused with his demon half. He is like a Demon Hulk almost. Swamp Thing is awesome. There was a TV show based. On this guy in the 80s. It is on Tubi. The only magical character this doesn’t have who would fit in is Dr Fate. Marvel’s version of Swamp Thing is Man Thing.

First time I ever heard of Constantine was the Keanu Reeves live action movie about him. I enjoyed that film, but I NEVER knew he was a DC Comics character until MUCH later. Honestly, it was an identical scenario to the character of Blade, the Vampire hunter. I loved the Wesley Snipes movies, but I never knew Blade was part of the Marvel franchise until many years AFTER watching them.
I really respect the flashing light warnings, way to think of others!
Bugs me how Constantine's characterization in this is basically just "giant dickhead who everyone hates." Like, he's snarky but not even that rude, and he gets shit done and saves people. Batman's a sourpuss, but his allies don't tell him to fuck off as soon he shows up.
Comic Constantine interacts with a lot of people who don't trust him, and as a result he has a lot of sarcastic and unfriendly exchanges, but that's just because everyone he hangs out with is a magician and magicians are all poorly socialized backstabbers because magic is a vice and most people who get addicted to it end up sacrificing everything to get more of it. Constantine is actually pretty virtuous, as magicians go.
But yeah, I think having all the other main characters constantly shit on him just for having a sarcastic attitude actually just makes the other characters seem weirdly self-righteous.
This movie was so dope. I love it and I love John Constantine and Zatanna. I really wished there had been a movie where Raven joined Justice League Dark for a short while and partnered up with John, like those cheesy buddy cop movies, where they solve paranormal cases together. And John would have to deal with babysitting a teen, probably not wanting to get involved with kids. It might sound like a strange idea but it could also be fun. Here's hoping. XD
I have wondered why they weren't put together more often. Seems like he would be better equipped to help her with her father's containment. And other magical things.
