We stayed at a hotel within 10 minutes walking distance of the main entrance and it was so convenient. We didn't have to start our day waiting in an endless line just to get into the parking lot. And buying separate one-day tickets was a lot cheaper than buying multiple-day tickets. For a family of four, it saved us hundreds of dollars.

I know this video was limited by squeezing into 15 min, but a pretty important detail about Genie+ at DL is that, unlike at WDW, it does NOT cover all attractions. The add-on definitely benefits you if you’re interested in coasters and such, but if you’re only going on tame rides like Snow White and Pinocchio, (whether that be b/c you have little ones or b/c you’re a big chicken like me lol), it has little benefit.

I went to Disneyland for the first time 40 years ago when my wife and I got married. Things were so much easier: wait times for the rides were short, didn't have to do much pre-planning like you have to do now. Our hotel was directly across the street from the park's main entrance which was awesome! I hope that the hotel, a Best Western is still there. My wife and I want to visit Disneyland again while we both can still physically do so. I'm not very tech savvy so planning a return visit to Disneyland might be challenging. If you live east of the Mississippi, there are only a few reasons why you might want to go to Disneyland.
    (1) You're traveling to southern California anyway, so why not?
    (2) You're a HUGE Disney fan! (why else would you be watching this video?)

Here's everything you need to know about Disneyland in my words as a former Cast Member:
    - EXPECT to be long wait times. It's an amusement park and one of the more famous ones. Of course there's going to be long lines for most of the good rides.
    - Stack up on water during hot days or the summer. It WILL get hot and you WILL burn out.
    - Have your day planned out. Walking into Disneyland without a plan will burn a lot of your time. It's easy to do the most in the park when you have everything organized. If you don't, it's hard to even ride 3 rides in 5 hours.
    - Try out single rider lines if you and your group aren't afraid of riding separately.
    - Treat Cast Members with respect. Most Cast Members will make your day there much better. Some of the good ones will even allow you fast pass access into rides.
    - Parades nowadays have become easier to find a good spot for. But the Firework shows will be a really tough challenge.

Genie Plus is so weird. Like, you spend all of your day on your phone, which is fine if you are straight just there to ride rides, but the Disneyland ambience is lost on you because you're trying to get your next lightning lane figured out every second you're not riding a ride, and once you have one, you are game planning how to get to your next lightning lane, and if you're the tech savvy one in your group, you're the lucky person doing it for everyone in your group. Idk. I say if it's just nutty crowded and you want to ride a lot of rides, it's probably worth it, but if you just want to ride a couple rides and enjoy your day, maybe pass on it? Also, Disneyland isn't really built for Lightning Lanes anyway, a lot of the rides don't have them. I don't think a single ride in Fantasyland has Genie+, and neither does Pirates or the Jungle Cruise. For me, I'm mostly paying $25 to not wait on Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I love the queue on Indiana Jones (in fact, I'm kind of sad if I go through it too fast. 30 minutes is an ideal wait time if I'm only riding it once, but I'm not sad if I wait up to an hour), Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a fine queue (there is shade in spots, with lots of fun landscaping and theming), and while Haunted Mansion queue can get a bit cramped and toasty on a hot day, it's fine.
All the other rides are either shut down at the moment (Splash), have single rider (Space Mountain, or Matterhorn), I'm not heartbroken if I don't ride them (Roger Rabbit, Smuggler's Run, Star Tours, Autopia), or the wait times are variable throughout the day - even on busy days (Small World, Astroblasters). So for me, very rarely does Genie+ make sense for us. But I'm a Washingtonian child-free married woman who goes to Disney at least twice a year, so draw your own conclusions.
