Olaf this might seem like a boring video to you but this is exactly what we are looking for just a day in your life it could even be an hour long and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't mind, You have mastered your craft and your work/ life balance is really interesting. 😊
I'm currently studying to be a luthier. I'm studying in the UK and this is a really good insight into my life after graduation. Thank you for the video!
Great video Olaf, lots of variety, and I like seeing the many spects of your repairs/ maintenance etc, as they say "Variety is the Spice Of Life". glad to see your son working under your tutelage also. he's lucky to have you for a Dad and a mentor. Thanks for sharing. keep them coming . ECF.
Thank you so much for having us come along and enjoy your day. I don't know about anyone else that has tagged along but I appreciate the effort that you have undergone to produce this video. It ain't easy.
My violin cost about $350 usd. It definitely is a cheaper instrument but I love it so much. I like accessories and don’t like that the pegs are not wood. Is it overly silly to take it into the shop to have different ones I already have on hand installed? I’m terrified of it actually being a faux pas to modify cheap instruments for purely aesthetic reasons and I don’t know because of my ignorance. Maybe a different shop so I don’t offend the seller? He was very patient with my social anxiety but I really botched that whole interaction
Thanks for the insights! Maybe it would be nice to add time as a caption so that we kind of know at which time you start, when you take a break for dinner, when you return, etc. Or to add a clock in the background.
Thank you for sharing your day! I really enjoyed this video as it puts your shop into a clear perspective of what life as a violin maker becomes on a day to day basis. I see a most pleasant routine...
Hi Olaf, would it be possible to carve the bass bar directly from the spruce top block making top and bass bar a single part? Do you know if Brazilian Rosewwod (Dalbergia Nigra) was ever tried in violin or cello backs? Thank you!
I've been watching and enjoying your videos for at least 2 years (and suprising my local luthier with some extra knowledge 😁 - I'm an adult violin learner, with 3 years of experience) After this video, I wish I could go for a walk in those parks - the paths look so beautiful! I perfectly understand why you like to go there ☺
Hello Olaf!! I have a few questions for you that I’ve been wondering and haven’t really found any sort of answers. I recently bought a new bow and noticed that the higher quality bow had less hair and sounded much much better than my carbon fiber that had more hair. My new violin bow is also made of pernambuco and is around 500 USD while the carbon fiber was around 70USD, a big upgrade. So what’s the difference between a bow with more horse hair or less horse hair? Does the amount of horsehair affect the quality or tone?
amazing video, as always Olaf. Thanks!!!
You are my favorite violin maker in the world!
It would be nice to have some cello repair videos too if possible! 🎶🎻
just bought a Pietro Giorgianni from olaf on my birthday best decision ive made.
2:50 Indeed. A genuine Stradivarius-copy.
Good Morning Olaf!!!
Great video! Thank you for sharing ❤

Absolutely brilliant. Thank you for all the extra angles and deeper look into your day in the shop! I always say this but these are my favorite ones.

You are so lucky to live and work in such a beautiful area
You're right, Brisbane looks beautiful. Not like Baltimore.
We all have what we have and make the best of it.
Olaf, do you think that violins are losing popularity? It would be a shame.
The big grin when your son turned made me think of Wallace of Wallace and Grommet. There is a strong resemblance.
Love seeing that the future of violin making in Brisbane is in good hands.

Not only will you damage pegs you may wind up going to the dentist
