  • Squatting in California: "I had one case recently (that) took over a year to get these individuals out of the home."
According to Redfin, investment buyers bought 56.3% more homes in Sacramento in 2021 than in 2020, creating a lot of empty residences. Because of that, people shopping for a home or looking to rent should be aware of squatters.

This happened to me on two properties I renovated. It's been over a year now, and I still cant get them out. Squatters literally have more rights than the actual owners. One of them is even suing me for "harrasment" This country is so gone anymore, its so sickening

Did you have motion sensor cameras up on the property? Also an alarm system you can trigger remotely, alerting you on your phone. If you catch them immediately on camera you have proof they're trespassing & you call the cops immediately even if you're away!!!

@StarBlitz I'm interested to know the origins of Squatters Rights To Inhabit Property in the Law. It exists in other countries too - so I'm wondering if it originates in British Law. And Why ?!! Because I am NOT legally able to take possession of your car, or your seat at a concert, and claim rights to occupy. It all sounds SO wrong, and utterly devastating for the legal owners. I've heard of cases where the owner loses their health trying to fight their way through the system, AND find the money to keep up their mortgage payments and pay for legal action.

Tbh amidst California's current hounsing and homeless crisis, especially for non-tech and blue-collar workers, it's understandable that some people would grow so desperate as to resort to squatting. It's not just addicts and homeless people that do the squatting, lower-middle class families, some of actually renovate the abandoned property, start doing this as well. In my opinion more housing projects, permitting the construction of duplexes and multi-family home should be started. And the local residents of suburbs should show more solidarity and support those housing projects, because these would help working and middle class families find a stable home.

Thing is not to leave your property sitting empty. It's all too obvious when you see curtains open or no window coverings at all, no lights on, no cars in the driveway, grass and bushes overgrown and not trimmed. It's obvious nobody is living there so the squatters say, why don't I move in? The house is abandoned.
Also banks foreclose on properties and throw the previous owners out. Then the banks do nothing, let the properties sit and rot. Squatters are out there watching and that's when they move in. Can you blame them? Yes it's illegal, but houses are literally sitting empty all across the USA. Property owners need to follow the law to get them evicted. It's not difficult or lengthy at all.

That's not a solution🤣🤣🤣, it's illegal in most cases too, and horribly expensive. The best thing you can do is have a security system in a vacant house, the system will alert the police of trespassers once the would be squatters fail to verify themselves, most security companies are vetted by law enforcement so even if the police take half a day to respond and the squatters produce paperwork they should still be arrested. If the home has no electrical service idk what to tell you, the bank or landlord obviously doesn't care about their property enough to take care of it the right way. Of course the best thing you can do is just unalive the squatters, less people trespassing, less people on benefits, less criminals breaking the law, but I reckon someone like you doesn't have the guts for it, even if you are completely justified.
