  • My 1999 BMW 323i blew a spark plug out of the aluminum cylinder head and stripped the threads. Can it be saved? In this video, we use the TIMESERT 4412E-111 kit to repair the M52TU engine. Then we perform a compression test to verify engine health before installing new spark plugs. This should apply to the M50, M52, M54, and other engines.

    This video is not sponsored. I purchased the Timesert kit with my own money and decided on it over Helicoil and save-a-thread as they seem to have a better success rate, however I have not used the others for comparison.

      Thank you, glad it helped! The repair has been flawless so far and I even drove that car 2000 miles round-trip to Florida.

    That's crazy. My 2 cylinder is the one that melted and 5 is the one that stripped it's threads, same as you.

    was that 323 ever in some sort of collision repair? bmws usually have some sort of sticker on driver side strut tower, but mine which is early 00 model does not have, hope this is a thing for 98,99 and early 00 models, ngl drivers side looks unusualy dirty to be that covered up with dust and soot, maybe structure which holds fender was replaced at some point if seam sealer shows traces of rust and paint flaking...

      Not that I'm aware of. I'm certain of the vehicle history for all except the very first year. If you see my other E46, it also doesn't have the sticker and I know that one doesn't have an accident history. The dirty appearance is normal around here due to it being driven through winters and not cleaned.

    So is this the only other option besides drilling it? It’s a $200 kit, there’s other $40 kits which I’m guessing don’t work with the M54?

      The helicoil kits (and the knockoffs) should also work. I like how the timesert kit works better and there's no piece of metal to lose at the end like you would have with a helicoil. Pulling a head is a big job so I decided to spend the money on the product I thought would give the best chance of success. I've used helicoil knockoffs with success in other applications and am confident they'll work too.

    Dude what size is the tap

    • @chesapeakemotorwerks
      @chesapeakemotorwerks  2 года назад

      The short answer is I don't know, the tap was included in the kit and I believe it is specific to TIME-SERT.
