    A key component that’s massively overlooked at this stage in the war were the 250,000 German troops stationed in Norway all throughout the war. Norway’s strategic value was limited to iron ore and other natural resources needed to build artillery and vehicles. But when the 3 biggest militaries in the world are knocking at your door- sacrifices should have been made. A quarter million soldiers stationed in a country with practically zero action for 5 years. Lunacy.

    To have to watch your children suffer and starve and die while you are totally helpless would be such a devastating feeling!
    I pray that humanity has learned its lessons by being able to study these wars and events.
    I hope we never do this to each other again...

    In the darkness of the Holocaust, a few tiny lights shine out: 1. about 1000 Jews were found alive, hiding with 'Aryan' families in Berlin in 1945 - imagine the risk those Germans took; 2. some German youth rebelled, if only in rejecting Nazi 'culture' by listening to Black US jazz and so on, but a few took part in sabotage actions; 3. perhaps the greatest heroes of the war, the Warsaw Ghetto fighters, who rose up and held off the Nazis for weeks in 1943; 4. the few camp inmates whose suicidally brave rebel actions showed what it really means to be 'superhuman'.

    I'm no armchair quarterback. And I wasn't there. But Gen. Montgomery seems so blinded by his ego. And trying to beat Patton. That he lost all sense of reality.
    Patton should have been given the fuel and supplies to continue his forging on into Germany.
    And there are a lot of things that Patton should have been allowed to do. Such as continue on into Russia. And whoop them, right then and there.

    • @MikeKye200
      @MikeKye200 5 лет назад +5

      I agree with you about Montgomery. The guy was an overachieving colonel with a massive ego. He was lucky to be in the right place at the right time in Egypt, just as massive reinforcements and material arrived for the big push. After that he muddled through at Caen and totally blew it with Market Garden.

    • @kdfulton3152

      MikeKye200 Absolutely! 👍👏👏 Operation Market Garden was a disaster, from the conception.

    • @94luftwaffe

      Soviets and Nazis were equally as bad.... So, to push away the russians as allies, would only get things into favour for the Germans since, they do not have to worry about war on two fronts... Russia had the resources and materials from Siberia in particular.... Patton just so hates communist, so cant blame him for wanting to do that so soon...

    • @ozdorothyfan
      @ozdorothyfan 5 лет назад +2

      In defence of Montgomery it has to be appreciated that he had issues the US did not. The British had been in the war for longer than anybody but Germany and had reached the limit of manpower.
      Montgomery had been told prior to D Day that the bottom of the barrel had already been scraped. There would be no more replacement troops if he incurred major losses. He was desperate for any way to end this war as quickly as possible and that's what operation market garden was about.
      If it had come off the Western allies would have been in Germany months before the Soviets and the war would have ended earlier. Then the post war world would have been massively different too with no Soviets in Germany to split the country in two for almost half a century.
