The Citizen Prodiver ecodrive 200 m diver is what the SKX should have been. It's a no nonsense divers rated watch with no winding and no battery and insane Lume. The second hand hits all the markers and you can take it anywhere.
If I had to recommend an SKX homage, I'd go for the Islander ISL-08. It has a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, and screw pins, and comes with a really good bracelet. It's not on AliExpress, but for the money you pay, you get the watch Seiko should be making instead of the SKX replacement they currently have.
I've had the blue dial Heimdallr for a few years now, and I never had any issues with it. It's still one of my favorite watches that still gets plenty of wear.
Nice roundup. Like a lot of people I started with SKX's. There's a refurbishing cottage industry in the Phillipines, and after a few from there I started building my own. It's the watch with the widest selection of parts on Aliexpress and by now I have a bunch.. Never much liked the Jubilee bracelet so mine have a variety of others. Buying all the components separately would cost me in the US$100 range for a watch with NH35, good dial, ceramic bezel, sapphire, so anything decent for less than that is a good deal IMO.
I'm glad I kept my SKX 007 and 009 all of these years. I got them years ago and they've since become icons of watch collecting. One of the greatest watch designs of all time. I still wear them from time to time on their OEM Seiko jingly-jangly jubilee style bracelets.
Would be very interesting to know which models are compatible with the aftermarket seiko parts, so components from the likes of namoki and lucius atelier
The SKX was so underwhelming/overrated, but people loved them. I briefly owned one, but there were so many better options for backup to the dive computer. Still, the hype still pushes those prices up.
You should make a comparison between the most desirable SKX homage! The Cadisen has a restrained lug to lug distance, which makes it wearable to small wristed ppl
I love these compilation videos. I’ve never actually owned a seiko nor a skx homage. This saves me the legwork. Does anyone make a dresskx? Almost bought one a while ago but I imagine the Chinese variants are better spec’d.
Ok i'm going to ask a question that may seem wierd. What is it about the SKX that makes it iconic? My initial recollection is that it was THE value for money watch with good build quality from a respected brand back in the day - but that was the reason for it being famous not the design? Please correct me if i am wrong?
I always saw it as a decent starter watch for the money. On some forums it was the defacto suggestion if someone wanted to try a dive watch. A sort of gateway warch for people to get into divers. I never saw much appeal in it for myself but it evolved into a cult following. Seiko discontinued it in 2019 and that just amplified the allure. At ~ $200 it was a nice watch at a good price . I wonder what a NOS one would cost today?
@@karlsenula9495 I always view it like the Ford Escort mk1, loads of them were made, cheap as chips, a lot got wrecked and thrown away, now a classic and worth a fortune. The skx will go the same way
Just my tuppence worth, I had the Escapement time quartz for a while and I can recommend it, smaller sized and just a good all round watch, and the Steeldive 3 hander was pretty good but obviously find one for under 100 quid.
The Cadisen is more a Seiko 5 homage. But with some peculiarities that makes it a small SKX, and even a smaller Seiko 5. I got the orange and I love it!
That Steeldive more closely mirrors the design of the new 5KX line, but with the specs of the SKX. The three link is what ships on pretty much every Seiko 5KX dive style watch now.
Nice selection of SKX. I have had the seiko spb317/313 on my list for a while but don't want t spend £860. Can you ask San Martin to make one, no date, aluminium bezel, it would out sell the captain willard, I'd put money on it. Still loving your content. Do you still get hassle for saying copyright words?
The 2nd heimdallr dial version is an homage of a special edition SKX dial design with that look. The Duane Campbell bezel inserts have 24hr numbers on a 3 hand watch. Oof.
Nice selection! I picked up that Cadisen watch & i really like it. It is a 40mm watch so it falls in between a 007 and the 013. Does anyone know if anyone makes an homage closer in size to a 013?
I have two Dwayne Campbell homages of the Seamaster 300 professionals ( I sold the real thing as I couldn't justify the cost) they are up to almost San Martin standard.
I went for the Heimdallr V1 earlier this year, think it was £96. Fairly happy, signed crown would have been welcome. I believe watchdives sell a V2 with raised indicies. Tempted to mod this one.
I wonder why no brand offers a watch that really looks like an SKX009, with a matte black dial, pepsi aluminium bezel, NH36 and a one line of orange text on the dial.
I have had a lot of Seiko watches. And lot of other brands. Some big some smaller. The least comfortable watch a have ever worn is the skx. It is not cause it is to big. I wear a Squale 50 Atmos mostly in summer. Even the big monster is more comfortable also the captain Willard is more comfortable. I fell for the hype but it wasn’t for me.
Am I the only one who thinks the crown guards are awful and stab the back of your hand? I’ve heard people say wear it tighter, but I have big arms that taper down so everything falls to my hand

The point is there is no skx replacement.

I have the Heimdallr that I bought some time ago for about $150 USD. I got the orange one and really like it! Thanks, Gary!

I would also add the Steeldive SD1996 to this list. I own this model and have been pleased with it.

I liked the look of those Dwayne Dibley ones
Great video 👍 I never had an SKX back when everyone did. I decided to be weird and got an ML1 Mako isntead. Perhaps it's time for an SKX homage.

One of the most iconic dial designs and handsets since submariner
I think the large aftermarket support helped too

@@MPiKMS72 you can still get new old stock from creation watches at about $500

5:28 Wow, a quartz SKX, my dream came true!
In the 90s there was always quartz versions of every Seiko diver and Seiko stupidly dropped them.
Nice selection of SKX.

Boderry Admiral is a kind of Homage to the SKX007
Looking forward to a No-Date, Pepsi, with PT5000 movement with a better bezel font.
I like the Cadison version.
You missed an interesting entry, there is a titanium Heimdallr SKX, Grade 3.
save the ocean dial variations…

6:16 that is the Skx "bullet" dial
The DC looks cool. Cadisen sounds like a foofoo cream

$400+!!!!! 😳 ... Did i miss it??? Did Invicta buy Steeldive and do their inflated MSRP thing again????
Have you see any decent A Lange & Sohne or Glaschutte pieces?
Are there any homages of the smaller SKX? 37mm diameter ?
Deep Blue do a 40mm, so half way between the two
Not really, all the ones out there of that dimension are homages of either vintage skindivers or BB54's
Islander watches makes a good one, Tandorio makes a 38mm SKX as well, including a GMT model!
I haven't see one but I bought 37mm case on Ali and build my SmallKX watch.
What’s in your wrist in this video? I’d love for you to highlight that at the beginning of each video!
What’s going on with your clock, it never hit the twenty two marker 😂

Go with the least and most expensive.
Tandorio parts are not SKX compatible for mods (bezel, chapter ring, caseback). Anyone know if steeldive are?
You have given me steeldive SD1993 as a giveaway.. 😊
If it looks like a skx the same if not better quality if it's got a seiko movement in the back it's just a skx that seiko didn't release
No islanders? They literally make direct upgrades to skx007 and skx013
Think l need some therapy 😢. I have 5 SKX009,s and 4 SKX007,s!!😊

Always amazes me that homages are better than the original, and cost a fraction of the price
Steeldive SD1996
Am I the only one who thinks the crown guards are awful and stab the back of your hand? I’ve heard people say wear it tighter, but I have big arms that taper down so everything falls to my hand
Tandorio.
Right up there with Madrasani, Vindalonio and Kormalex.
No. Just no.
