    • @leecourtney1225
      @leecourtney1225 18 дней назад

      Kind of correct, you can only pay dividends from net profits after corporation tax, any left over after this will be 'retained profits' usually used for re-investment/liquidity. It's the fact that they strip all the profits out for shareholders without retention for future investment that is criminal when providing a public service that is a monopoly.

Where does it say that the tax payer has to subsidise shareholders when the risk that they willingly take with their investment doesn't work out? Nationalise the water companies now. And any other company that used to be public and has paid dividends on shares when making a loss and especially when receiving subsidies. Btw, I lost twenty quid on the fruities yesterday - I demand that the govt gives me at least half of that back to mitigate my losses. FFS that's how pathetic Rees Mogg's argument is!

Nationalisation built the network, privatisation gutted it. Critical infrastructure should not be owned and run by another country.

    I worked for one of those companies for 14 years and i can honestly say, theres less crime in dealing drugs.
    Water companies are expert at rerouting money, flipping their balance sheet from £3bn profit to somehow owing £500m to a holding company. Most projects are not to fix the network but to increase share price to maintain the fraud. I saw the company i worked for spend millions on new treatment works rather than repair the existing. Existing assets add no share value so dont get replaced. I also saw my company waste over £120m on a failed IT project that was known to fail but a director called Simon decided to press ahead regardless. This is why PPE regulations werent followed in the last 3 years, this is why they had recruitment freezes for the 2 years following and also why nothing got fixed despite your bills going up. Also they intentionally dont stock enough water meters so good luck switching when your bill gets too high.

    The lady in blue defending southwest water doesn't know much about them, southwest water have allways had high water bills citing the area and Infostructure of the area which are fair points, what they neglect to say is like every other water company they haven't re invested in said Infostructure and kept on top of it, they have also had numerous issues where they have contaminated the drinking supply of water and ended up affecting alot of innocent people and businesses costing them a heck of a lot of time stress and money because they were to greedy in the first place to run the water business like a responsible company and most years they try and put the bills up citing the same issues without fixing the issues, it's a common occorance to see overflows pumping raw sewage into the sea so no one can get into the sea , they are a shower of 💩 the boss and ceo of southern water ..if there was ever a time we need to take the utilities back unto public ownership its now and it can be done without costing the taxpayers anything but the government won't admit that.

    America has operated in this way for years. Self regulation has caused the same problems in the US as the uk are now experiencing. Regulators appointed by governments work for the private companies interests and when they leave government,they're hired by the private company they were meant to regulate. There are rules in the uk about doing that but it is frequently occurring. A government appointed regulator may also take an 'advisory' position on a board of the company they're regulating too while they're meant to be regulating them. Paid and remunerated positions on boards are occurring very frequently and the practice increased drastically under the tories. It's disturbing that starmer has not stamped out that practise as it is a clear conflict of interest and corruption is blatant. That's why the tories despise the civil service who are meant to ensure value for public money for functional services adhering to the conditions of government contracts while following regulations. Tories replaced 'regulations' with 'guidelines' or simply adopted american style 'self regulation'. This system has led to the failure of so much in the uk and the permanent destruction of rivers and coastal regions. Forever chemicals in the sewage system that were untreated and pumped out on dry days have permantly polluted rivers,the banks and the wildlife. Farmers draw water from rivers in dry seasons and use it for irrigating crops and watering livestock. Now the forever chemicals are permanently in the soil and the foodchain has absorbed forever chemicals . People eat that produce and now they've ingested those forever chemicals. A
    soil sample study is currently being carried out in the uk for forever chemicals contamination. The public are not being told enough about this aspect of deliberate releases of untreated sewage on dry days.

    England and Wales were the only two countries in the world (via the tory government) to fully privatise their water and sewage system in 1989.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_privatisation_in_England_and_Wales - "England and Wales became the only countries in the world to have a fully privatised water and sewage disposal system."
    In 2001 the Welsh took it away from profit-making private companies at least via the not-for-profit Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water company.
    But England? When will the good people of England finally stand up and put a stop to this??
    ps - water is still nationalised in Scotland......

    Why do these soulless types tend to have thick chain necklaces in concert with their aloof cruelty? It’s as if it’s a character trait.

    What the hell? Isn't water a nationalized thing in the UK. You do the NHS, but not clean drink water and sewage. 🤣 Who finances the roads? Is that private too?

      Its nationalized in Scotland and lightyears better than the rest of the UK. A survey in September 2024 returned a 98% satisfaction rating. Roads are run by local authorities
