I just wanted to say, Laura, that you were pretty much the reason why I got into cooking when I was a kid, and I really thank you for that🙏🏻💛 Some of your recipes like the “lovers chocolate mousse” I make every year for my family at Valentine’s Day.
oh my goodness, I have made this for the last few years! Ever since I discovered it on your channel. I’ll never use marshmallows again! This is the most delicious sweet potato dish. My family has ever had and they asked for it every year. Thank you so much Laura. And the way you make it is so easy.
I make the same sweet potato casserole. Tuesday is prep day. Roasting the sweet potatoes, cutting up the vegetables for the dressing, roasting the turkey wings for the gravy because we smoke our turkey, baking the cornbread for the dressing. Wednesday is set aside for preparing the dressing and the sweet potatoes, even the gravy. The turkey has been brining since Tuesday. Thursday I I bake the pineapple brown sugar ham and heat up everything else. The rest of the family brings the sides: green rice with shrimp, corn maque Chou or corn casserole, pumpkin roll and pecan pie. This year I’m going to ask my 5 year old granddaughter to help me butter the rolls before baking because she loves to help out.
What time is dinner? I make the same casserole with a couple of different changes, but almost the same. We always have it at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Been making YOUR recipe for 5 years straight now for thanksgiving. My family started asking me to double the recipe thr last couple years bc there was never enough! And I'm so excited to see an updated version of "my" sweet potato casserole lol Already getting new tips within the first 2 mins! Why didn't i ever think about peeling the potatoes?? Scooping them was always the most time consuming part and i hated it lol thank you!
Wow! That just looks splendid!! You've never stirred me/us wrong in anything, I believe every single word that you say and I will stick to your recipes to the T forever!!
I have been making your sweet potato casserole for years and it is a hit! Thank you for this updated video & for the tips on how to roast/bake the sweet potatoes, I always tend to struggle with that.
I have been making your sweet potato casserole for thanksgiving every year for at least 5 years now… it’s tradition at this point. Your tip about baking the sweet potatoes instead of boiling them makes such a difference. The flavor is so rich and beautiful. Now I’m off to roast my sweet potatoes! Happy thanksgiving to everyone!
You are either a Sweet Potato lover or hater. I love Sweet Potatoes. From plain ole baked to several types of casserole. Usually see the potatoes sliced and all the ingredients mixed in.And the sweet sauce is flowing all over.YUM
I have been making this recipe for 9 years now! My thanksgiving staple and it never disappoints! So nice to see an updated video almost a decade later :)
This is a classic! I have made a recipe exactly like this for years, and it is delicious. Sometimes, I add just a little freshly grated ginger to offset the sweet.
I do it different, the way my mom did it. After you mash the sweet potato, I add 1 stick of salted butter, cinnamon powder to taste, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1 cup cream, mix in chopped pecans. Add pilonsío syrup. Place in baking dish. Cover top completely with marshmellow, stick in oven 350 degrees til marshmallows melt. Take out, enjoy! ( The pilonsío is a Mexican sugar, comes solid: place in pan with a little bit of water on low heat til melts a little. Use that liquid as a sweetener to the dish, to taste).
Many thanks for all your wonderful Thanksgiving recipes. You’ve worked so hard . Here’s wishing you & your family a very , “ Happy Thanksgiving”. Enjoy!😀
I love sweet potatoes! Definitely loaded like this for Thanksgiving. The rest of the year, I like them just roasted as a side. Sometimes, I'll add just a hint of cinnamon.
@@shayshaymann113 I use 5 yams and use about 1 - 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 - 3/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/8 - 1/4 tsp cloves, and 1 - 1 1/2 tsp orange zest all according to your taste and mount of yams. I mix everything together and taste before adding the eggs. Happy Thanksgiving.
How many people does 5 yams feed? And what size casserole dish do you use? This will be my first time making it and I have a smaller square one or a longer rectangular one
@@kelseyrodgers394 I used 3 large sweet potatoes and a small square casserole dish too and that was enough for 5 people with seconds! 😊 Definitely give it a try with these spices, I promise you it will be a hit!!
Hi Laura, you can also make a sweet potato dessert by slicing/with peel on the sweet potatoes on a pot with a little water, brown sugar(the large cubes on the hispanic isle) and cinnamon sticks. We do it in the winter months is my mothers recipe. Your video reminded me of it. Maria
Oh Laura! I'm so used to watch your earlier cooking videos from 5 - 10 yrs ago and i dropped in here just to see what you look like now. And OMG you look so amazing now and in my opinion you look prettier now than you've ever been. I am in love! Honestly! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
It is more like a dessert. Most ppl I know like them as a dessert bc their so sweet. Alot of ppl will add more sweet things to it to purposely make it a dessert. You can eat it as either. But it's so sweet I like eating it when I eat pumpkin pie. I mean if u just put them in a dish and bake as is like some ppl do and just add marshmallows then yes a side bc no sweetness added. But when your adding brown sugar or cinnamon and sweet butter and ginger (alot of ppl make it diff) then ur making it as a casserole dessert
My mom made this recipe but she would cut oranges in half with a knife making teeth at the tops. Serated. She would pulp out the oranges 🍊 and cut 1/2 cup pieces and add to sweet potatoes. She would fill each orange half and after topping she would bake. She would do the same topping but add a few candies pecans on top.
I’m really surprised this is your favorite cause you like bread so much. I would have thought your stuffing would be your favorite. I’ve been making it for years now and we love it. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
@LauraintheKitchen when you add the pitatoe mix to the baking dish, was your dish greased with butter? Do you need to butter baking dish for it not to stick I guess is what I'm asking lol. I want to make this tmr for my family but don't want to mess up and it stuck and be messy. I did this one time with Pam and I swear it made the sides not cool correct. Is butter the trick?

This is how I want to try it this year. About how much nutmeg and cinnamon would you recommend? I don’t want the nutmeg to overpower the casserole lol
Made this following the recipe only change I did was skip the 1/3 cup of white sugar it came out delicious and plenty sweet....definitely a keeper.

How did you make your maple butter? Or is it just butter that you mixed with syrup?
Do you recommend serving it warm or does it taste better around room temp?
Warm is best
Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the. Sweet potatoes and it's the same as the one I grew up on soo good
