    Seeing Mowgley work through learning his new job is so great! I love how you point out when he finds something difficult. I love that you are teaching the head popping up, ears back and tail swishes are because it’s hard for him. Not him being difficult or naughty.

    Showing us how you are building a relationship of trust with Mowgley is super! The relaxation and letting the horse enjoy his work is so often overlooked when riders are focused on reaching their goals. Thank you for making this the foundation of your training and sharing it with us. Challenging little by little with maximum reward and relaxation and allowing horse to think about things they are doing is a wonderful concept. Your kind approach is so obviously the best approach! Forcing horses never seemed to be a good way of training, and I'm so glad you allow the horse to respond without correction. Ignoring any negative response seems to be far more effective - not bringing attention to the negative. Wow! I am learning soooooooo much!

    I watch this video so often that my hubby recognizes it:p Really inspired by how u advocate understanding the horse & continuously troubleshoot to help the horse, not only to strengthen & straighten his body, but also to gain confidence & trust. Mowgley has transformed so tremendously! Very enlightening explanation on why & how each exercise helps the horse. Mind blowing tip on how to encourage the horse to canter on by helping him in 2 point rather than punishing him by kicking! Rewarding him for his effort to understand the aids for canter even in the wrong lead by letting him canter forward into a trot and a pat instead of pulling him into a trot to stop the canter! The video on counter-flexion explanation is very helpful. Thanks! I have difficulty in recognizing the problems and so, have problem troubleshooting. But that boils down to riding practice. Hope to take more lessons soon. Super video!

It validated that needing to repeat exercises is not about repeating failure but about developing your patience as a rider and allowing your horse to make mistakes on the journey to success. She was really lovely and I definitely would enjoy seeing her ride again and progress on her journey.

    I find this absolutely amazing how you managed in such a short time to get him to 'obedient' , so open to contact. I do not have my own horse (sadly, my beautiful fresian mare is only in my dreams), but I try to apply your advices and methods on the shcool horses I get to ride, but they're not receiptive at all, they usually trot and canter the head right up in the sky, making it hard to control, especially in cantering exercices. Working on leg yields and shoulder in whenever I can (in between exercices given from our teacher), but I still have trouble grasping the Banana positions and moving my seat correctly... that and me being a complete potatoes sack in canter (flying out of the saddle, lower legs flapping, same for the hands and elbows, a sorry sight ;__;).
    I'm sure regular practice with your own horse at your own pace is much more effective than trying a few seconds a week on horses with very different personalities and behaviours haha.
    Anyway, thanks a lot again for sharing your knowledge with us. Oh and last thing: Mowgley is so so so handsome. Such a beautiful boy, with very soft features and eyes.

    • @audreye7078
      @audreye7078 3 года назад

      Horses with their heads up and noses out aren't able to use their backs properly and are difficult to ride. You might want to consider a school that uses well trained horses so that you can learn to ride properly.. it sounds like your money would be better spent on higher quality instruction.

    • @Ysreen
      @Ysreen 3 года назад

      @@audreye7078 A sound advice if not for me being very much attached to the horses there in spite of them not being well trained, and also the important matter of proximity. Oh, and also it's a familial little horse school, and I fear the loss of this "warmness" in a more 'upscale' school ^^'

    • @audreye7078
      @audreye7078 3 года назад

      @@Ysreen I can relate.. how open is your instructor for allowing use of the same horse and watching these videos? Asking/allowing a horse to work with a dropped back shortens their useful life and causes pain.. sometimes debilitatingly so... I hope you can make a breakthrough.
      Alicia is very skilled and knows how to make Mowgli round.. but if you watch you can see when his back is dipped from the hip to the saddle and he does not track up at walk or trot. Then when she asks him to round look at those same areas.. She can do that because he is at least relaxed and supple.. perhaps you can ask your instructor to work with you on that skill? The horse would appreciate it too.

    • @Ysreen
      @Ysreen 3 года назад

      @@audreye7078 Well for one she isn't against me riding the same horse several times, but she still likes to have us try different ones to see with which ones we are working best. But it is still only an hour a week so the actual training with the horse is pretty limited, and it will eventually always be ridden by some other students that don't use the same methods (-> conflicting messages for the horse?)

    • @audreye7078
      @audreye7078 3 года назад +1

      @@Ysreen The horse can tell the difference in riders. Its the same issue for you... you have instruction in your lesson that seems oblivious to correcting the horse's way of going which inhibits your ability to learn to sit and ride correctly. It's not ideal,but you do make progress as long as you adhere to basic principles.. ie the training scale . All riding is training for the horse.. it either reinforces the current level, progresses the level or causes regression. Your being here means you recognize there are shortcomings in you rcurrent situation and your desire to progress beyond them. That's admirable. Onward and upward.

    Dear Alicia,
    I’m amazed about the info you are giving to us. Let’s just take me and my horse:
    - we had some issues with walk-canter - > your “shoulder in» before the canter helped
    - We had beautiful trot - > your leg yield made it special
    - We have suppling issues -> your exercises (you got us a lot of them) helped so much
    - We have half pass issues -> your approach regarding pyramid makes us stronger
    - We had some unevenness in both hands -> your suggestion to “move the bit” helped us to balance. Now your suggestion about renvers made our connection even better.
    You have armed us with so much useful skills in a simple, available to everyone way.

I've watched so many videos trying to improve my dressage training/riding and this is the first channel where each video actually gives me an "ah ha" moment with something I can use in my day to day riding. Your way of explaining what you are doing and also bringing each lesson down to a level that even an amateur rider can learn from is amazing. You bring excitement to your riders and allow them to know, with your encouragement and training, that they WILL become better riders! Thank you A!

    I’m learning so much from watching your progression with Mowgley (sp?)- I’ve an OTTB mare and she struggles with the exact same issues as him. From the right side weakness to the struggles with cantering to being straight in her body…and remaining confident throughout it all! I’m definitely going to be referring back to this video!! Thank you 😊 so much for sharing your journey with him. Your tips for cantering (2-point, rising canter) from other videos are also supper helpful 😊

    Love watching Mowgley’s progress! I would like to see more videos on stretching and free walk/trot with a horse that gets easily distracted and nosy. How do you tech them to keep that position when they want to look at other things?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 года назад +4

      This is a super question Isabella! The answer is the training scale!!! When you perform a free walk or stretch trot in the test (or in training) the idea is to test the connection, so test that when you allow the horse to take the contact down and forward, that the horse follows the contact and reaches for the bit. If this does not happen (at all or for a moment) then the horse is not connected and the solution is to go back to working on the suppleness. 💕

    Seeing you work with Mowgley was a breakthrough for me. My guy was a bit spooky at stall being cleaned on the other side of the shared wall. I would have avoided that area of the arena before but I decided to bend him to the arena wall so he couldn’t spooky easily and we had a great ride. He never did push in to my leg in an attempt to avoid that area and was fine after a couple laps.

Wow it made a huge difference, I have been really struggling to get a connection with my girl she’s only 5 but today with your exercises and help it all started coming together. It’s so exciting and I’m so happy! Please please keep these videos coming and thank you so so much. The “do nothing” was a real game changer 😊 and riding the train tracks on a banana 🍌! Xxxxxxxxx

    By now my favourite thing to think about during riding is “baby legyield” 🥰
    You had a great job on the #8 Dressage explained on a heavy horde who is fast. What if you have a heavy horse in hand but they ignore the leg too?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 года назад

      Great question Julia-Alessa, the best thing for a horse that is not reactive from the forward aids is to think of having the horse respond to a light aid and travelling by itself, a good way to check this is to ask the horse to canter, then leave your legs long and not active then when the horse slows down or drops to trot you give a quick correction which should send the horse reactive off the leg and forward (faster than what you need) and then you take your legs off again, until the horse learns to travel on its own. Then also work on the horses suppleness as if the horse is not supple it cannot move freely through the body and will seem "stuck". Hope this helps x
