They don't represent the amount of time it takes to recognize a holopilot in combat. And usually most people don't even bother because shooting a pilot first is life or death, so they'll just shoot it before thinking, and they won't even start thinking until it disappears.

honestly having played holo pilot for a good number of hours, it is incredibly surprising just how much there is to the kit. It's one that really requires you to plan ahead the most as well as completely on the spot, but once you start to learn when/where/how to use it effectively, you can end up getting kills handed to you on a silver plate & also escape situations you otherwise never would have been able to.
Using it offensively: the most common methods I use are the classic "send one out towards a corner/door" either to check to see if someone is watching that particular part of the map & where they may be based on where they shoot - but if you also know someone is coming around the same corner you can send out a holopilot way ahead of you by sliding before you active it, which will very likely grab the enemies attention, letting you dump a magazine into their distracted ass.
Another way is by using cover to your advantage if you're engaged in a fight. Disappear behind an obstacle big enough to cover your whole body, send out a decoy in the same direction you were going & then quickly change direction, either backpedalling to peek the same angle you just went behind or even jumping over the top. The enemy will usually be expecting you to keep running the same path they saw you going and will be much more likely to target the clone that is following their prediction, allowing you to quickly undermine that by popping up somewhere else unexpectedly with a gun already trained on them.
The final usual method for offensive use (and probably the least likely to be used regularly, but still good to learn) is to send out both clones at once down a choke point that you know an enemy or even two are headed down - preferably doing different things like one running and one sliding. Seeing at least 3 glowing red enemies infront of them may cause the enemy to panic for a few seconds, giving you the immediate drop on them if they decide to hold their ground or if they instinctually flee upon believing they're outgunned.
I find that defensive use of the ability is most useful against titans since bamboozling an enemy pilot is usually enough to get you a kill anyway even if they get the drop on you. Titans can be much harder to sneak by and movement abilities are usually still predictable enough for a decent player in a titan to snap onto you for only a second which is enough to turn pilots into minced meat. Holo pilot can grant you that extra second or so to get out of dodge by sending one barrelling towards a titan, or down a different exit to the one you intend to follow, as most titans may believe a pilot could be going in for a rodeo or making a very obvious desperate escape and will probably put all their attention into going to stomp/melee a rogue pilot on the ground while you get around them for a quick escape. I've survived quite a few encounters where i've rounded a corner face to face with a titan, done a u-turn & sent a holo wall running/sliding down the path i had originally gone down, which usually prompts a titan to quickly follow while I was actually just huddled in a corner behind some crates or something.
I may be somewhat biased in this assessment since I use holo pilot so much that I honestly feel incredibly 'bare' without it at this point, but with correct usage and quick thinking/game knowledge of what to expect I sincerely believe it can be one of the strongest abilities in the game especially when it comes to duelling a pilot - it's really hard not to understate just how common it is for enemies to get distracted or confused on what to aim at, even if it's only a second or so which is typicaly enough for you to get some of the easiest kills of your life. Many of the kits in titanfall are countered by good aim and spatial awareness - but holo pilot can actually be a hard counter to someone twitchy enough to kraber a stim/grapple user out the sky. Yes, it can be obvious if you send a holo mindlessly jogging in one direction down a hall, but all you need is to surprise an enemy who wont necessarily think about whether something is real or not if they see a glowing red pilot in their face, and thats not even considering the movement you can put on a clone to make it seem a bit more authentic. Plus, I think with how underutilised it is, you sort of get the innate advantage of people just not expecting it at all.
And above all else, it is so much damn fun once you really understand how it's supposed to be used. It can be difficult adjusting to an ability that seemingly feels so niche after coming out the near universal application that grapple or stim or even pulse blade can give you, but the sheer dopamine you get after clearly seeing an enemy getting distracted by a holo & turning their back to you, completely missing you in the corner of a room after chasing your ghost through an exit, or simply seeing them trying to deduce the holo from the fake for a second in real time & landing those kills knowing you utterly trounced them in the mental game is the kind of dopamine you legitimately won't get with any other kit.

Yeah while holo pilot isn’t really to good it definitely has its moments where it shines. I find it really useful for when I’m being chased down, if I can turn a corner and break line of sight and then send a holo back around the corner it usually gives me an opportunity to capitalize on the distracted pilot. And surprisingly it works on the majority of players I encounter, yes even gen 100s. Only times when it doesn’t work well is when I’m playing the same people multiple matches in a row.

A-Wall is kind of amusing against titans, because it stops even titan weapons, and it boosts your AT weapons, so if you have good positioning, you can get a couple free shots off even after you've given your position away. Don't get outflanked when you're doing this though. Or ambushed by other pilots.

I feel like cloak was the only one that really got a fair shake here from the standpoint of a "guide". Grapple and stim got some interesting notes, but holo pilot, a-wall, and phase have a lot more going on than what's implied in the video.
For example, in the comments you can see people talking about the relevance of the speed of TF2 to holo-pilot viability. An enemy only needs to be confused for half a second or fire a handful of shots and give away their position, for holo-pilot to give a major advantage.
Similarly, A-Wall does promote camping, but it also lets pilots go face to face with titans, because the wall can tank a couple hits while you get shots off with the slower anti-titan weapons. Really, if a stationary wall stumps a player in a game this fast, then it's just a matter of time before they learn the movement skills needed to flank every A-Wall they see.
Phase does give a moment of invulnerability to escape a hairy situation, but it's also a way to break past a chokepoint, cross a lane full of enemy fire, detach a firestar, get out of a gravstar, get behind a titan without being crushed, or any number of other things.
I like the enthusiasm in the video, it just fell a bit short for me as a guide. Felt more like a rundown of the pilots you like and the ones you don't.

i haven't played for a while but i consider myself to be a genuine holo main. what you want to do is activate it at the beggining of any confrontation. this might seem kind of useless at first but you gain an advantage in every fight because your enemy has to take a second to know which one to shoot at. you shouldnt waste time trying to set up your holo is a specific way; it works best if you're going fast and just shoot it out in the direction you're going

  • @killmajaro1
    @killmajaro1 11 месяцев назад

I've been bamboozling since before Mirage was a twinkle in Respawn's eye. Lemme add some tips for the holopilot. Big upps on the AI bit, it is a straight up "don't shoot me" button when it comes to AI infantry and titans. Same with the eject trick, very useful.
Starting with the nitty gritty, the hologram mimics the action you're taking upon activation. So if you're sprinting forward, it will sprint forward. If you're crouch walking, it will crouch walk forward. If you jump forward, it will jump out of you. If you're strafing, it will strafe. If you are standing still or walking backwards, it will stand still.
As for it's effectiveness, that's entirely in the hands of the player using it. It's an ability that requires and rewards creativity as well as an understanding of the state of your opponent. The holopilot shines in Titanfall because of the low time to kill. Not only does that mean capitalizing on the distraction usually gives you enough time to secure the kill, it also means most players do not think twice about shooting it. The game is so fast paced that players don't hesitate to light up anything that glows red and holopilot exploits the hell out of that fact. Throw holo pilot through doors, peak them over rooftops, throw them around corners, any situation where you doubt the safety of your next movement, throw the holopilot ahead of you. Even if you don't follow up with the kill, enemy pilots or titans will reveal themselves with their gunfire, giving you the tactical advantage. On controller, the holopilot is extra convincing because it will grab your aim assist like a real pilot would.
So holopilot has the AI distracting ability of cloak while also letting you shoot freely. It lets you safely ascertain the location of enemies with a much, much shorter cooldown than pulse blade. All while being one of the most satisfying tacticals to use because let me tell ya, getting that kill on a distracted pilot tickles my brain in a way nothing else can.

Yea i hear u, i used to bamboozle a little myself in apex. Im making a titan video right now but I'll definitly make more in depth videos on their tacticals because in hindsight i did holo pilot kinda dirty.

Personally I main holopilot because a lot of tf2 players are stupid (sorry.) for example, if I’m being chased in cqc, I can go around a corner, send a decoy out, and the player will try to target the decoy (and that’s when I execute them.) or, you can also send it out to scope out areas that may be dangerous. Just send one out and see if it gets shot. Another thing you can do is get a nice look at your character! yeah, that one wasn’t a tip lol but anyways I also usually send one into a crowd of ai for them to focus on it while you kill them, but the ai are pretty easy to kill anyways (except the damn reapers, send them to the phase shift realm) right and holopilot is also good at allowing you to either escape or rush someone, just deploy a bunch of holo pilots towards someone and they might panic and shoot at them! or maybe you can act like a hologram (don’t try it unless you just want to mess with someone, it doesn’t work half the time since people love shooting holograms) oh and also just a little funny fact, during executions, abilities that are used in the execution work, meaning people can’t shoot through the a-wall execution, and titans won’t see you executing their friend when you are cloaked! I once bamboozled a titan with the cloak execution lol. right anyways that’s it
