My big fish of the trip was a 8.1lb Fluke . Pool was 10lb . That's unfortunate the 12 lber went over the rail. That's so strange
@@donnapeters8426 standard practice on that boat. They gaff all of flounder that would be keepers. Most likely to save the hassle of rigs getting tied up in the nets cause they stay on fish quite actively.
Sorry that's nuts. I've been on packed boats and everyone is catching and only 4or 5 mates on deck. NOBODY gaffs fluke. Lines getting caught in nets isn't an excuse there is no big tangles. It's quicker to net and no chance of knocking the fish off. I wouldn't want a hole in my fluke or the chance of them lose my fish esp if it's a pool contender.

So your keeper fluke have gaff holes in the fillets if they get it in and don't knock it off with the gaff, better yet, if a fluke is caught that turns out to be just short, it has been released with a big gaff hole in it?
