Correction: they did hear the warning sirens (said by other sources) but dismissed them Edit: I know I'm gonna get more replies about it, and yes, they didn't know what the sirens were for, and it's tragic that they didn't for this situation, but I feel like it's important for people to know that when you hear sirens more than once (apparently the sirens went off 3 times before this incident occurred), you should immediately leave the area and get to a safe place no matter the reasoning for the sirens, especially when you're in a location like Rachel and her friends were for this.
Mr Ballen did this one a while ago. Apparently the signs saying "Get out when the sirens go off" had been damaged or removed. They heard the sirens but didn't know what they were for, so dismissed them as you say.

yeah, that's life. When I was like 16 i was in a cold pool with boys and girls. I took a girl on my neck even if I was stiff. I heard a small crack in my lower back. Since then lower back pain never left me
I've heard about this before. From what I heard, there was supposed to be a warning/no trespassing sign telling people not to go swim in the river which could not be found. Suspected that someone removed the sign before Rachel and her friends got there. They heard the warning sirens several times, even getting out of the river at one point to talk about what exactly that was. But ultimately they figured it was safe. Once the flooding occurred, they managed to cross to safety except one. Rachel went back to save her but was swept away in the process.
