    amazing... I tested the eByte version and i didn't get more than 1.5 km... i will be testing this lora version soon.

      As per the datasheets of LoRa transceiver (RYLR998), at Absolute maximum ratings *power amplifier yields* / *RF Output power range* / *Transmit Power* is ranges up to -20 to +22 dBm at 100 mW constant RF output vs. V supply. and Typical transmission distance given by Reyax is upto 5-6 Km
      It also depends on lot of factors. like if tested at open space without any obstacles/buildings/hills in actual line of sight, then it should cover longer distance. And we can get LoRa coverage upto 6 - 8 Kilometers.
      Have fun testing (RYLR998 module) in your area and let us know how much distance it covers.

    Good video, but you should consider add basics information of this setup, bw limits, SF configs, if you did a BER test or only a dummy msg, what size, period...

      In this part we have overlooked Device specifications, AT commands configuration guide and We have also see one small DIY project using these modules. It was a basic setup of simplex transmission.
      In second part we tried to test "Transmission Range" of RYLR998 LoRa Module with same basic setup

      You are absolutely right. We should have considered above parameters mentioned by you during testing. We just tried basic testing. But next time We'll definitely take this in account for our future LoRa Project's testing.

    .. best practices for range test is piezo beeps... if received msg beep... else for noise check... tx dummy test char below UART buffer (64 bytes)... connect receiver to FTDI-UART apps on smartphone.. and check redundancy of the char sent... does it match?

      ➡️ Actually we have not tested the RYLR986 module yet, so we cannot comment on its communication range. But according to the datasheet of RYLR896, its communication range is 4.5Km - 15Km. But surprisingly the manufacturer (Rayax) has not mentioned the communication range or anything like that for the RYLR998 in its datasheet..
      We have tested RYLR998's communication range. It was upto 5-6Km, provided with clear line of sight. It depends on lot of factors. like if tested at open space without any obstacles/buildings/hills in actual line of sight, then it should cover longer distances. And we can get LoRa coverage upto 6 - 8 Kilometers.
      Have fun testing (RYLR998 and RYLR986 modules) in your area and let us know how much distance they covers.

      => Yes, you can connect this RYLR998 LoRa Module to any LoRaWAN server like TTN or others. But you have to build the code on your own to connect to LoRaWAN servers (using AT commands), since this module is newly launched, so currently there are no pre-compiled libraries or demo codes available.

      At that time, there were so many 🐶dogs, looking at us angrily😡, barking at us. Because, We'd accidently 😜 entered into their territory, when we were searching good spot to use our camera for pointing towards building, where the LoRa receiver was placed. 😂

      *_Q_* - _What is the battery life if use this module?_
      ➡️ As per the datasheet of this RYLR998 LoRa Transceiver Module,
      Transmit Mode current : Typically 140 mA (at condition RFOP = +22dBm)
      Receive Mode current : Typically 17.5 mA (at condition @VDD=+3.3V)
      Sleep mode current : Typically 10 uA (at condition @VDD=+3.3V)
      Smart receiving power saving mode - average current =
      0.02 mA Minimum , 2.7 mA Typical and 5.5mA Max at (AT+MODE=2,3000,3000)
      So, theoretically you can say or you can configure this module for optimum performance of power consumption using sleep mode and Smart receiving power saving mode when module is idle. You have to just switch the mode using AT commands through program.

      As per the datasheets of LoRa transceivers (RFM96, SX1276), at Absolute maximum ratings *power amplifier yields* / *RF Output power range* / *Transmit Power* is ranges upto +20 dBm - 100 mW constant RF output vs. V supply.
      and for RYLR998, as per its datasheet and absolute maximum ratings *RF Output power range* is -20 to +22 dBm.
      So, Theoretically as per standards it looks like RYLR998 has more power amplifier yields than other two modules. But practically we found it approximately similar for all three. It also depends on lot of factors. So typically RF Output power is ranges from -20dBm to +20dBm.
