This Deck has the best mechanism ever made. Direct drive Swiss made spooling motors x 2.Direct drive dual capstan motors.3 heads and a head block mechanism that pivots not slides and is always in perfect alignment.
I bought a ~40 yr old Revox B215 from original owner. Played a 3150Hz test tape and the playback readout was 3149-3151Hz. This is truly remarkable, and far superior speed accuracy than even a NAK Dragon. In my opinion the 2 best decks in the world are this Revox and the Tandberg 3014A. The Dragon recordings in fact are terrible when played on other decks because of its azimuth alignment incompatibility.
Just my thoughts: back in the day a Dragon or a CR7 or even a 3014 might have been a contender for the best tape deck. The situation is different today though: a Tandberg or anyone who did ever service one is next to unobtainum. Nakamichi build quality is rather poor - it's a lot of plastics (dont start the shitstorm I DO own a Dragon and a CR7 as well). I bought my 215 used and had it refurbished at the original factory service station: at that time they did even had NOS record /playback heads. I'm convinced a well maintained 215 is THE best tapedeck ... today.
@@daserfgh European decks like Revox or Tandberg prioritized component quality. Whereas Japanese like NAK prioritized build cost savings. Hence why NAK's structural and major transport components are plastic. Tandberg 3014A is in fact the best cassette deck ever. The B215 unfortunately comes 2nd !

Nice professional tape deck top of the line i got to get one of this i got nakanishi tape deck it sound good too got 3 pair they sound nice now i need this revox tape deck
Revox Professional Studio Quality Audio Compact Cassette Tape Deck is one of the best Professional Tape Decks! Besides my Technics Dual Tape Deck, which uses laser guides that scans the Magnetic Tape thru the small openings at the base of the Cassette Tape, located between where the main Playback/Record Head and Erase Head that accesses the Magnetic Tape, to locate tracks on tape. But newer tape decks used the main Record/Playback Head to do the same, so that technology became useless, unknown by most, as if it never existed.
I worked in a studio, and at a radio station. Both as assistant tech. Never ever heard of anyone using the words "Professional Studio Audio Quality" and (in basis) a regular 4 track cassettedeck at 1 7/8 ips in the same sentence...
Unfortunately, in the digital world where we are living right now, all professional tape decks don't have any use anymore, no matter how good they were in the mid 80s. All of them right now, are nothing more than just toys for the romantic collectors. Their value exist only in the heart of us, who could afford to enjoy their qualities at their prime time.
or people like myself who could not afford them back in the day and could only see pics and read about them in hifi mags. I need tick the box, probably romantic yes, I want to go back in time with my old tapes even if its only for an hour 🙂

It could be me but, what's the point off this video? I own also a ReVoX B215 aswell the pro version Studer A721, so I know wht those machines can do. Besides that, the quality doesn't come to it's right, because RUclips doe compress the sound to MP3. Not to mention the music on the tape, that sort off music sounds also great on a type 1 tape. Did you ever tried that? Offcourse I also does have Metal tapes but, then with other music which is worth to use a metel or Type 4 for.
Dolby must be understood before it can be dismissed as unappreciated. If it is tuned properly the listener CANNOT tell it is being used. Do to the nature of how Dolby works it CANNOT be switched off and on for comparison. It must be compared to the source three head units excluded because it can be instantly monitored during the recording.
