I'm a 1st year mechanical engineer and I was immediately able to benefit from the in context portion. I didn't know about the layout approach where you can start with a mechanical sketch to test your idea and then build parts from the layout. It's such a new approach to me that I'll have to noodle on how to incorporate it. So far, I've just been building rudimentary parts in an assembly, mating them and testing them which seemed fun to me, but I think layout sketches could get me directly to the point. Thanks for the tips and tricks throughout the video as well!

great work! i've been out of solidworks for a while (been using onshape for a few years now) but needed to get back into it for work. great intro into top down assemblies for sw. thanks so much.

Hi, That's great explanation with hands on experiment. Now question is How about SolidWorks is supporting the Data-Sharing Features of Top-Down Design Methodology as Publishing the geometry Feature and Copy the Geometry Feature to another part to be used in the Assembly. Reference Control, And Modular Design Concepts? If possible can you share on these concepts of Top-Down Design Methodologies? Thanks!

20:35 could you have made a copy with CTRL+drag? or would that've caused a problem later?

I'm sorry, but I think you a little bit all over the place and there is a lot going on here. Maybe I am just not up to this level after 5 years of solid works modeling. I will come back here after I work on the elementry assembly building class. Thanks for the work and time you have put in this to help us learn.
