I love how gentle and deeply badass the Firebird character is. Perfect for Mr. Matsukawa.
So THAT’s how you do it.
You’re a real tease!
Isn’t it amazing, how expressive our double reed instruments lend themselves to so much individuality of the artist, the best of the best?
Well done.
I like how Daniel Matsukawa explains everything, from technique to some meta-technique (I'm sorry if that's not a word, I invented that word), I mean beyond technique, he explain how to play it (fingering and air) and how it the idea should sound.
Pretty analogies for the sound.
I have no words. Absolutely gorgeous and brilliant on all levels.
wooooow! what a beautiful sound!
The Philadelphia Symphony orchestra has for decades recorded the best top-notch recordings which any instrumentalist would want to listen to, and compare with others. Anytime in its existence each and every player has been qualified as a solo artist.
GORGEOUS tone!! One of the best bassoon sounds I've ever heard.
Fantastic presentation!!! Thank you, Daniel Matsukawa, for sharing your remarkable ideas musically and technically!!! Astoundingly inspiring sound!! and loved your attention to the various entrances of each section or instrument and how their lines relate to the bassoon solo… your explanation of being inspired in the performance by colleagues and the magnificent music along the way and and organically move into the solos…such a gift!!!
I like his idea of being "in the moment" and not himself be nervous about playing solo
Rachel Garber And this is exactly why he's principal in Philadelphia.
"As if I'm pulling ten thousand packs of chewing gum"
I love it.
His voice sounds like a bassoon. A good one.
Bravo Danny, very informative, great interpretation. As always, love your sound, beautiful.

I agree: GORGEOUS tone!! I am new to the bassoon after over 50 years playing the violin but I am loving it! What kind of instrument is he playing?

I need to learn vibrato! So beautiful
Magnifique
@InficioCruor I believe he plays an 8000 series Heckel that has been customized a bit by Kenmochi Bassoon Works, but I could be mistaken.
DANNY: lookin' good! -charlton
I would recommend the Firebird Berceuse solo.
It's sometimes really weird that there is no youtube video that has 0 unlikes. Really weird hahaha, but this is still extremely useful, wonderful sound and interpretation.
Duh! Legato! ... yes, you solved my problem!
Obi Won of the Bassoon

3:10 Bassoon hits stand *clang* 3:12 Awkwardly looks and rubs bassoon in worry *awww*
3:12 Daniel's thoughts "Uuhhhh..... screw that stand..... on with the show then.....
exercise is to stand before the mirror ... look to the Adam's apple fell down. Start with the middle register.
il più meraviglioso nell eseguire questo brano è stato Dario Marchi Teatro la Fenice Venezia
Why are there any 👎?
Rachel Garber They are clearly jealous of this hair. That's why.
I know this is a little late but try to open up your throat like you're yawning, but while playing the bassoon. I've played the bassoon but I mostly play the clarinet, and the use of air is near interchangeable. So try that, it should help :)
