Thanks so much for doing this. I need a team with all the filming, editing and a full time job. Much appreciated! ❤️📚
A 50minute book haul. Yes please.
Careful what you wish for. Hahahaha.
@@SavidgeReadsObviously I am very jealous of the advance copy of Mariana’s new short story collection 😊 Keep on being you edited or non edited. We are here for it all 🎉
@@donalreilly4242 that’s very kind of you to say!
I appreciafe you leaning at the same angle as the cactus..
Thanks so much for this! So cosy to wake up, have a coffee and a hang out with you! Even though im jealous you're heading into autumn and we are charging toward another brutal australian summer 😅
Ha. I had no idea I was mirroring the plant. Ha. Hope the summer isn’t brutal. Hope it’s a lovely one full of lovely books.
I like the unedited but I also like when you do what youuuu like so whatever’s clever and tysm for another TBR plug banger 📕🪱💚
Ha. TBR plug banger. That tickled me!
LOVED the Safe Keep and really didn't think I would!
It’s so good. I had a feeling it would be a Savidge hit but I still didn’t realise I would love it so much.
Nice green cap, I've known some shady people, represented some too, makes their lives complicated. I loved her house museum with the Pollack room and the Chagal. Unedited is fine, you make the call.😊
I quite like a sprinkling of shade.
Like the unedited version. Missing the jumper, though😉. Coming to you from Bless Your Heart territory….
Coming to me from a funeral home? What jumper am I missing? I have soooo many questions.
@@SavidgeReads the American South…Virginia. People here say “Bless your heart,” with saccharine non-sympathy….derisively…oh, the autumnal jumper(hence, a display that we are currently experiencing fall)…me trying to be witty and just being confusing🫤.
Yes to unedited videos, more please. It's a pleasure to hang out with you
Awwwww that’s so lovely of you to say!
Simon I could listen to you all day. Thank you for this wondrous video
Awww you are too kind, thank you so much.
Yes! Finally, a lack of edits. I genuinely love this style even more! I am hoping for more videos like this one!
Thank you for the lovely feedback. I think I’ll switch it up now and again or maybe find a nice middle ground as I do love doing some edits. Though simply topping and tailing is really easy. It’s hard to please everyone though 🤣
I loved how confronting Assembly was! Very excited about Universality, what a beaut proof as well.
I’ve read two of Rivers Solomon’s books, do hear you about the more horror-esque preference of yours, think The Deep would intrigue you as well. Very much looking forward to Max, thank you for bringing it to my attention!
I’ll (finally) be reading Moonstone for this months prompt 🙌
And, always enjoy your vids, edited and not
Yes, I loved how direct and confronting Assembly was. I am soooo interested to see how this new book is. I think I will love all Rivers books, I think the newest one just appeals so much because of the time of year we are in now.
Love the unedited choice!
Thank you. Though I’m worried it’s led to two quite long videos in a row. lol.
Great video and I love the little tangents you take us on, I am all for unedited - only if that is what you would also prefer of course!
Hahaha. I think unedited for a while. Well, let’s see how I do with my August Wrap Up, wrap ups are where I most fluff up. Hahaha.
Hot pink and open interior doors (The Echoes, The SafeKeep, Stone Yard Devotional) seem to be all over covers lately.
Ooh I hadn’t noticed the doors, you’re so right!
Max sounds so interesting! I hope it'll be published in the UK as well.
Fingers crossed.
The most perfect ending to a book haul ever. Incredible!
Couldn't have even made it up, hahaha.
Queer As Folklore sounds amazing!!
I think it is going to be BRILLIANT!
Love the unedited videos.
Glad you’re enjoying them!
The motherless land and the Blue Hour are amazing reads! Great haul but grew my the 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️again😂
Whoops. Hahaha.
I got Bless Your Heart for spooky season too!
I think it looks the perfect pitch of horror and camp... cannot wait.
STOP! I also have Chase of the Wild Goose. I got it in Cardiff at a queer bookshop in one of the arcades. I think it was from The Queer Emporium... That was two years ago now so I need to get to it! I feel like we have many of the same books so now... I just need time to actually read them! Oh, I just had Safekeep arrive today too!
Ooh The Safekeep. Oooh. I’m saying no more till my August wrap up, hopefully on Sunday. I haven’t been to The Queer Emporium, have heard amazing things so need to try and head out that way or make work take me that way.
I’m in the middle of Rare Singles atm. 😊 Looking forward to your thoughts about it. I have put The Language of Limbs on my list for the library. New releases start out as trade here in Aus and then go to normal size later.
I’m hoping to get to Rare Singles soon. The indie spredged edition is STUNNING!
Oooh that Heartsease cover is stunning! 😍 And Queen B was brilliant. Did not disappoint!
I enjoyed Queen B a lot, greedily I wanted even more of it though.
I've only read River's Unkindness of Ghosts so very intrigued to hear about the 2025 release!!!
I have read nothing by them, yet now have all their books on my shelves.
I love a nice long video. Really love the casual, chatty, unedited style
Thank you so much!!!
wild wild stack from august! and i can't believe this is unedited! incredibly sharp and well spoken!!! when i grow up i wanna be just like you!
had no idea there was a new Ali Smith! gonna request an arc NOW!
I am super intrigued by this new duology, especially as they have the same titles but spelt differently... intrigued.
I challenge you to do an unedited video. Go on, pleeeeeeeeease.
Love the unedited!
Awww thanks so much Brett. I just realised I didn’t put a link to your channel below. I’ll amend immediately.
sept 1 to xmas truly is autumn.
We are of the same mind 🍂
I only buy 1 book Simon when I want to get a book. The latest book I bought was called the golden gate by Amy chua it’s set in Berkeley California, in 1944.
That is fair enough, we all have different buying habits and budgets. Hope you enjoy the Amy Chua.
Nice haul waiting for you there! 😁 Good on you for getting on reading some of them right away. I had made a list of books that I want to read that my library does not have in stock and I just used the birthday month rebate my local book store offers to stock up. So once I've finished reading what I've borrowed from the library, I'll focus on my recent purchases. Not sure what I'll prioritize - I'm a mood reader so I rarely plan ahead.
I’m going to really try to keep up with the reading what I’m buying vibes for the rest of the year, it makes me buy so much more intentionally. Need to do the same with the books I ask for from publishers really. Most just arrive so I don’t feel so guilty about those. Hahaha.
I have a degree in literature and we were taught to not read introductions until after read book unless introduction written by the author.
Oooh that is so interesting, they should change them to afterwords, ha. I don't think I would read an introduction by the author of their own book until I had finished it. I have been put off for life lol.
Simon I will take you chatting away and going on tangents any day, any time...but more importantly you do what you feel like you need to do for you. Loved all the books. I picked up Sandwich by Catherine Newman, The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell, and Pearce Oysters by Joselyn Takacs in August and the new Attica Locke was on my doorstep Tuesday... Love Love Love Attica Locke. Have a beautiful day.
Oh I am happy to do edits or no edits, the latter is actually waaaaaay easier for me. Just top and tail and I am done. I also like the finickity nature of an edit though, so will see how I go. I am soooooo keen to read the new Attica Locke, though sad that will end that trilogy as I loved the previous two.
Nice! Love this unedited experiment-- it really is like hanging out with a friend. (But, please only do this if you feel ok about it!)
I also never read prologues until I'm done with the book. There have been so many plot points, character reveals, overarching questions answered that spoil the whole book. I love going in blind. I just read the prologues afterward and they make much more sense then, anyway, right? I have one book I've been recommending for years, and there's such a big twist, which is almost always spoiled in some blurb, my recommendation is not to look it up online, read professional reviews, staff pick blurbs, author blurbs, and not even the front or back covers of the book -- just open to page 1 and start reading. (We are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler 💚 -- if you haven't already had the twist ruined for you.)
Ha. I don’t mind unedited. It’s like me from the beginning of my BookTube days, just top and tail the ends. Simple. So much less time consuming. Though I do enjoy the fun of editing. However my patreon vlogs can scratch that itch.
Great video as always Simon. More books to add to my list! Best Wishes 💕
Thank you, soooo pleased you enjoyed it.
Okay, You JUST reminded me that Nonfiction November was around the corner. Autumn is seriously the best, isn't it? Shorty September, spooky books for October (or Victober if you are in the mood), followed by Nonfiction November, and... Vlogmas!!! From your list I'm going to pick up Small Rain and I Died at Fallow Hall. I also requested the Rivers Solomon book from Netgalley! Thanks for always having the best hauls and a great mix of books :)
Ha. Well I can confirm I’m definitely not doing Vlogmas, I did it a few times and that was my lot. I might actually take December off as Vlogmas takes over hahaha. I’ll be joining in with Non Fiction November but really I just want the final part of the year to be whim whim whim.
So excited to read This Motherless Land! I’m just finishing Nikki May’s first book Wahala and I’ve LOVED it!
I liked Wahala soooo much, I loooooooooooved This Motherless Land soooooooooo much.
@@SavidgeReads it’s my favourite read of the year so far. Absolutely incredible. The ending left me reeling! Can’t wait to start at his Morherless Land.
All Yours is the prequel to Time of the Flies.
Yes. That’s what I meant. Time of the Flies is the follow on/sequel.
Fab as always keep the unedited videos coming 😊 also quick question where can i buy the Jane Rawson book the history of dreams i see you buy from Readings in Oz but they don’t have it, any suggestions as I’d love to get my mits on it!!
I am trying unedited for a little while and see how they go, perfect timing as I am busy as busy at the moment. I don't know what to suggest about the Jane Rawson as that is the only place I would have got this book. Maybe eBay, or see if Google can come up with anything.
I adored 'This Motherless Land' I also love Mansfield Park but I don't think that affected my reading of this either way.
I've just added so many books to my wish list ❤
Also I loved Behind You is the Sea and I'm always here for the girth! 😂
You can’t go wrong with girth in your life can you? Hahahaha.
📚
I’m glad you read queen b, enjoyed it a lot x
I enjoyed it too… with a couple of caveats. More in my August wrap up!
love the unedited videos :) I recently read the new Mariana Enriquez and it's brilliant and very disturbing. Her best one yet!
Oooh that sounds super promising. I’m looking forward to heading to it… and all her books.
You’re spoiling us with posts recently, Simon. Plus no filthy talk a la Louise 😂
I like to keep it clean, unlike some members of my family 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@SavidgeReads 🤣
@@SavidgeReads haha!
Still loving the unedited sit down and chats.
That’s lovely to hear.
A very good chat…enjoyed it!
Thank you, I’m glad!
Unedited Simon for the win!! So excited for This Motherless Land. It sounds wonderful. I am also super eager to read Small Rain, which is getting some wonderful early reviews. Intermezzo sounds quite moving, I must say. Have months to wait for Gliff on this side of the Pond sadly. Oooh, a new Natasha Brown! Wow! And I want to read Rare Singles so badly! Too many amazing books. Must retire and sit and read all day! Love the Shady Person hat too.
You mean you didn't miss the black and white moments, the sped up bits, the zoom ins? Hahahaha. I think I am ready for retirement, well, no maybe not... or maybe just to retire from the bits of my job that aren't reading. Ha.
@@SavidgeReads I love the black and white and sped up bits, as you know! But unedited Simon is great too!
I totally agree about World of Books, the quality definitely seems to have gone downhill. Their like new definitely isn't my like new!
Yes. That’s one of the big issues I’ve had with them, their quality assessors. I mean like new and very good aren’t hard to qualify.
I loved the girl on the train by Paula Hawkins I wasn’t sure of the movie I felt it wasn’t close to the book
I loved the book and I liked the movie, I saw them as two very different things I guess. Very much looking forward to Paula's new one.
I have to say you missed out buying Tokyo Ueno Station in the Tilted Axis Press edition. The US cover for this book is stupendous! But more importantly, the book itself is absolutely fantastic. And bleak. But fantastic. Very highly recommended. I was so bummed when I saw her new book was like 800 pages, because that’s never going to happen. I will live vicariously through your experience if you read it. But read Tokyo Ueno Station first. It’s fantastic.
I dunno. I like both of the editions. And I love supporting an indie press over here where I can. I think that’s important. That said it didn’t arrive in the best condition so if I love it I may upgrade… or may not. Hahaha.
I just got a copy of The Snow Child.
Hope you enjoy it. One of the editions has a quote from guess who (yes, me) in it. Lol.
Carry on unedited unless the ice cream van arrives in the middle of recording.🍦
Hahahaha. I knew it was time to wrap up and get to that ‘99🍦
Does Ali Smith know how much heartache library staff will go through with two novels said the same but different spellings? I simply may hibernate for that…
Hahaha, thankfully at least they aren't out the same year, so maybe that will help?!?!
So hype for this video I’m watching it in installments to avoid its being over 📕 🪱 💚
Hope you enjoy it, in fits and starts or once completed.
