Hay Mr Ironhorse love the knowledge you pass on.. just watched a video of yours from a few years ago and you were talking about 1972 and the fuel shortage. And eating lots of oatmeal and root vegetables . i was hatched in 64 in ontario Canada and in 79 i remember eating puffed wheat and porridge 2 to 3 times a day . But what grabbed me was the bread bags in the worn out boots .i got my boots from a cousin! !, we all did it around here and were glade to have a grandmother that baked goods and took those bags on exchange and all my winter boots had bread bag liners. Cheers man keep on keeping on. .
Some nice looking tranfers there..alot of grinding..cant wait to hear the results..I m changing skidder tire today..had a major blow out..ran it back flat filled it with mud..been fun...lol..
@@theironhorse6600 Question: On an air cooled 2 stroke moped engine. If I switch to a thicker/heavier cylinder head of similar shape & size that is supposed to help cool better, is there a good chance it actually won't help keep the engine any cooler?....I know since it's heavier/thicker/more aluminum, that it'll take longer to get fully warm but I'm wondering if. Once it gets fully warm/loaded with heat, if it'll actually be able to dissipate the heat better.... Like for example, a thicker piece of hot aluminum will stay warm longer than a thin piece. I wonder if a cyl head is made too thick, if it could end up having a negative effect on engine cooling? The thicker beefier cylinder head I bought might be a gimmick. I do know with heat sinks on a computer, that a thicker one of similar shape & size will cool better than a thinner one. But that might be because the fan/air flow, blows the heat away before the electronics have time to fully saturate/load it with heat. VS the thinner one that can get fully warm faster, then once it's fully warm the fan can't cool it fast enough.
A three cylinder saw hey. Probably should steal the cooling shroud design from a Deutz air-cooled. An interesting point about saw handles is in the cold my brother and uncle liked to run the Stihl 290 and 311 saws more than the 461 because the plastic handles didn't cool their hands down as much.
These ol pigs bring back memories of my first job and the first time I ran saws though only for mill jam ups. Still affects me today as now what I have are big ol clunkers where modern weight savings and comfort is abandoned for old school torque and sturdiness. Can't beat the P series Pioneers in my mind but that's my Canadian bias and I wish someone would remanufacture parts for those ol dinosaurs. Reed valves are just the way to go they should make a comeback
Thanks Ironhorse, i am planing to port my Sax 143 that way. Bit of widening the Pistonwindows and matching the low Trans . Then test it and later i try new Numbers. Keep doing cant wait for your next Video!
Uncle harve....keep at it my friend, looking good and better with time, I hope I can make sswfest, that would make my year! And run ol faithful, chinese orange, 372xp BB ported, piped, I do know it will smoke a stock 046 pretty easy, I've competed in a lot of...things, but never lined up a set of saws bouncing offa the rev limiter b4, I'm excited about WILD THANG too!! I fixed one for the church rehab programs, thrift shop, it didn't last 4 hrs, 75 bucks, I did..."fix some things", or "improved them" darn thing was right impressive for what it was, free, broke from thrift store, fixed it better than factory(much) and give it right back but that little suckrr would pull chain,
I love your channel and have learned alot I look forward to learning more I'm saving a johnsred 2100 till I get better at building for now I'm just playin with 372's thanks for telling me about wolfcreek great shop. I'm building a 630 jonsred tomorrow at least it's not a husky lol😉
You are to kind with your words. Thank you for the shout out I hope you like the shirt! Can’t wait for saw fest this year. I just nailed down the food Service for that Saturday.
Great to see This build one the 395. Seeing i did mine last year turning my 394 to a 395 top end. The 394 jug was scored bad but the saw ran good but when you shut it off would not restart for a half hour. That got old quick. I hunted for a 394 jug and piston with no luck at all
Awesome that old Charlie B! Will have him an iron horse saw! They ship them plates with those neotec’s! I thought that those were a sweet little extra! The guy who sells them for several models gets near $30 I believe… on a cheap saw that’s a fantastic feature and on a oem saw it’s a dang good addition! Heck yeah man…you can beat and bang around for 4-5 years of use and abuse and when you take that plate off your saw’s bottom is still brand new! It’s worth $20-$30 bucks for several years of bottom protection!!! I really hope to see you at a saw get together at some point! Stay healthy and God Bless you and the family!
I found out this morning that the farmertec 395’s are coming out. I’m listening very closely to your advice here. I have kind of a crazy plan for it. Thanks much!
I did a 394 last year that ate a PTO side bearing internally, the jug was borderline salvageable but I opted for the 395 conversion with a Hyway big bore pop up kit, base gasket delete and ported to get my numbers, reshaped the ports to match the OEM 394 jug and HOGGED the transfers…. She cuts 😏 Fun saw to work with on the bench, lots of room to get into the jug with the ole dremel 😁👍
The 395 cylinders I have ported lately had the same casting marks as the one you have. It was removed with porting. A 395 is definitely worth the effort to port. The casting on the 592 is a bit rough too, they may never be as good as the early 90's and older cylinders. I will eat the egg if it comes from a duck, I have had ZERO luck with the china saws or parts, I would get more from my money if I through it in my wood stove. I run the aluminum tank skids on most of my Stihls, they are a must have. Great to see folks doing get to gethers again.
This is just one of those channels I'd ont care what the title says I do t care what he has to say...I know I'm gonna learn..I know I'm gonna laugh..and I hit the like button before the adds are even done almost every time lol thanks Ironhorse have a great weekend coming up here and take care.
Hi there, been watching your videos for a while , & enjoying all the excellent knowledge you pass on... Would you have any tips for tweaking a Stihl 07s pls??? It was my dad's saw, when he was building boats{ 40- 60ft wooden boats} ... spent many weekends with him ,when I was young, cutting knees out of trees, for the boats... anyway, thanks for all the fantastic knowledge that you're passing on... cheers from another ol' fart over in Aust....
neotec offers those bottom protection plates w all there big saws curious to see the quality of these looks like they produce a lot of torque not the fastest but never bog down
Also i got a stock 2100 husky with stock carb its pig rich on the hi side even with the hi jet shut off it will still 4stroke alot in evn a dawged in big cut i heard a 2101 carb is a direct no modifications swap. But i dont knlw what the 2101xp carbs were lol do u happen to know what i meed to look for or do? Any help would be appreciated sir.
So ,I am in the market for another saw ,but I am at a loss between new stihls and huskies.I do a fair bit of firewood in 18”to 24” logs mainly. Had both in the past ,ms460 ,660, huskie s 365 and 394..all been good ,but I’ve been told that the huskies are having a few duds .is this true ?and if so why.which way would you go.
Hello everyone. Anybody know anything about racing gas for 2 strokes. Best place to get it and the ups and downs about the difference in all the 2 stroke oils. My friend at work was talking to me about them today. I believe he was a class A motor sport racer back in day.
Harv how could I reach out to you I’m in PA and found an old saw a few min ago that may spark a interest it’s red says Super 754 and does pull over surprisingly considering it’s probably been laying in weeds for many years!
That right there is a stink bug. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Iron Horse, much appreciated!

IronHorse the 872 NeoTec sends that gas tank guard wit the saw. I love mine !!
Great video. Close ups are fantastic.
Ooooooh, a radial cylinder Homelite. It would sound like a WW11 airplane . Cool.

The 394 seems like would benefit from a lil bigger carb then stock carb an some port work.
Neotech does the scidplate on there saws.
How much would it cost to have you port a 395 and do an exhaust mod like a straight shot? Cool channel man, you’re pretty knowledge.

Anybody know what the specs are to get a long bar for a mac 1-43 chainsaw. Or at least a part no for a sprocket in order to use a different style
