Hello Davidmargines7489: My guess is, that's to remove any rocks that might get wedged in between the dual tires. If not removed, as the tires rotate & the sidewalls flex & bulge out at the bottom of their travel, the wedged rock would quickly wear through them.
400 TONS,, crazy,, insane,,,MAN difference between CAT and KOMAT--------the roof of Komat is an arch shape,,, in compare the CAT's roof is flat.. the cargo container of Komat seems very thin, round shape and a bit vulnerable to sustain such heavy weight.. on the other hand,, the cargo container of CAT is more robust, , in a box shape which looks more rigid / solid thicker sheet metal body than Komat.
Actually, there is no difference, from the original manufacturer, Komatsu truck use the same carriages as Cat truck carriages. If you see any differences. In carriege, it's because of company orders

An American short ton is 2000lbs, a Imperial British ton is 2240lbs and a Metric tonne is 2204lbs so very little difference between an Imperial ton and a metric tonne.
