I’ve never wanted a GMT because the fourth hand is always so prominent and makes me confused about the time. If I were to buy a GMT I’d buy this one precisely because the GMT hand is so subtle. I LOVE that. Since I will never need to know the GMT time every time I look at my watch, this would be so much better as an every day watch.
Agreed. They're neat but I dont change time zones much at all and in the event I do, I'd simply change the time. The 4th hand just isnt necessary for me but I've always liked the concept and functionality.
I gotta say i do prefer a time elapse bezel to any other bezel variation as it is THE MOST useful complication (if u can even call it that) that a watch can have aside from obviously time telling.
Second note. I have the Wilton GMT with the 9075, and a Seiko Recraft with 7S movement. These two are the reason I caved and bought a watch winder. Much easier to just let them run (frankly with so many watches in rotation, the “issue” of wearing out the movement was secondary to the convenience of resetting the watches 🤷)
Both of my Rolex GMT’s (16713 root beer and 16570 Explorer 2) require me to change the date by advancing the jumping hour hand. Gives you the opportunity to interact with it after pulling them from the safe. Lots of charm to the Bulova but I too struggle to hold onto them for long.
I had the green one. The seal breaker for me was the non hacking movement. Also found the 20mm lug width to be disproportionately small for that version with a bigger case. I’ve heard they started making them with a hacking movement. When I know that’s officially the case, i intend to get it again.
How often do I switch timezones? Twice a year, coming on and off DST. Picking up a depleted watch...depends on the watch. But I also have a vintage watch without a quickset date and it's fine...
Like others have said, great explanation of the differences of the two types of GMTs. I used to travel a lot for work (around the US and Canada and over to Europe), but that was before I discovered automatic watches. At the time I relied on a quartz Seiko worldtimer with a quick-set time zone function.
Mr Jody, I wonder if you might discuss or even review some watches featured in the recent British water makers show in London? I watched it online and there were some great pieces, will you be attending next year?
What a coincidence! I'm wearing mine as you speak in the video and realizing which watch you're going on about. I don't usually wear it, though; much as I love to stare at it, I'm not usually big on actually wearing it. Too pretty on someone who comes across the way I do.
My father owns two and I own one. They’re genuinely amazing value, proper tudor quality if not better. Compared to my black bay. Brand is managed so fucking poorly though 😂
Im so glad you reviewed this, it seems the best of the new GMT's. I like the green and this full lume one. I see them for £550ish over here. I might buy the full lume and get A1 to paint the gmt red.....
I recently picked up a quartz Surfboard and love it. It does wear a little larger than I expected but I'm not sure what all the online hate against Bulova is all about. Sure, like Citizen and Seiko they have plenty of 'department store' watches, but they also have a great collection of watches I'll proudly wear around my watch snob friends.
I love your perspective on how to pick a GMT based on that convenience of setting the time. Very relevant to real life where many of us don't travel all over the world but DO rotate through a collection of watches and have to set the watch anytime we wear it. Fantastic review and probably pushed me over the line as I was considering this watch already. This video moved it up my queue. GREAT job!
Chonky fella, but seems pretty well executed. So happy they stuck with devils diver specs. You are spot on with each individual owner deciding what type of GMT movement they really want/will use. I agree, the look of the dial is AWESOME, as is the lume! I'm giving this one a hard think.
I actually like the way they've used an unobtrusive GMT hand. Some GMT hands are pretty in-your-face, and kind of dominate the dial. I like this 'less is more' approach, and let's face it, how many times does the average GMT owner actually check the second time zone on their watch?😀
Agree. It's a definite design choice. Means finding the second time zone is slightly more recessive, but doesn't get in the way of the design. I think it's a valid option.
I like the monochromatic style on this, I had all intentions of buying the orang dial as I', a fan of orange dials but when I saw the green dialed version in the flesh I bought it I feel it has a very classy look.
This thing is GORGEOUS i really wish more brands would use white on a bezel insert. It just looks super clean wspecially with a white dial and black chapter ring
Just received my first gmt today and I am very confused, what is the odd numbers for in between the indices , I understand the nh34 watches but not mine or bulova
I like it but I'm with you in the size of the GMT hand, plus it's a but large fot me. The Devil Divers always look neat though especially those hour markers. Take care Jody!
I have this watch and really enjoy it, but I find the strap to be a bit too thick for my tastes. The strap is also comically long in my opinion, I'm on the very last strap hole position and my wrist is just over 6.5".
Yes very nice looking watch, I like the nickel coating. I think Bulova could easily improve legibility by making the GMT hand a brighter colour. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find this on sale at a more reasonable price.
After getting my first "true" gmt this month, i can’t agree more with the date setting. A true gmt is a hassle having it in a bigger collection… I’ll admit i didn’t think about it beforehand! Caller gmt all the way!
I have this watch and it took a bit to gel with it. For my the rubber strap was the main issue because while the case is a perfect 45mm lug to lug the strap is so inflexible at the top its more like wearing a watch with an integrated bracelet taking the lug to lug to over 47mm. It wears more like 48-49mm with that strap but after ditching the strap for another one I finally fell in love with it. The date setting though..As you mentioned I don't wear watches for more than a few days before swapping to something else and yes resetting the date on this is a pain. I also only got it for the amazing full lumed dial and bezel.
I have the non-GMT version which I like a lot apart from the non-hacking 8215 (my least favourite movement). Thanks for the review, especially for discussing caller vs. "true" GMT, the latter name is really badly chosen, because as you said, it just depends what will be more conventient for the owner. The fully lumed dial on your model is really cool.
As someone who often travels from UK to USA and has a watch winder to keep my watch in when off wrist, there is no way I would consider a caller GMT. I love the fact that on the plane I just need one simple move to get the correct time zone on my Traveller GMT.
I can get the subtle GMT hand thing as a concept Vario's dressy style one makes it makes sense, having it on a diver is..... slightly peculiar. It would maybe make more sense with something that's a bit sleeker, cool watch though!
Perspex markers for hours, a 2nd hour hand as thin as the seconds hand one, a Seiko Turtle case look, a banal plastic strap ... This GMT diver is surrely unique. But is that for good reasons? By the way, thanks for this review. 👍
Classy looking watch Jody. Cant beat black and white for classic looks and legibility. Mom had a two tone black and white 1956 Ford Victoria. This watch has style.
Great Video, Jody. I really like the Bulova back catalogue. I have the Lunar Pilot, Aerojet, and the American Clipper. I quite like the am/pm indicator on my Aerojet, useless as it is. Actually, the Aerojet would have been good as a GMT instead.
That smaller GMT hand is a great feature, and compared to so many divers on the market, this is much less generic. I also love Bulova’s retro range, the Jetstar range and the Lunar Pilot are great watches! You are correct about the obsession about features, most divers watches aren’t used for diving or even swimming and most GMTs aren’t used for anything at all😂. Most people that I know who dive, just buy a super durable and reliable Citizen and get on with it!
The ‘bronzed metal’ is just steel sprayed with coloured DLC or the other less scratch resistance, it should keep the case scratch free. The only downside with this is that if you manage to scratch it, you can’t lift the scratch without removing the DLC. And that in itself is a mission. The gold coloured steel Apple Watches use the same method.
Hey Jody. I would love to see some of your deleted takes and bloopers of your filming. I know you must have some good ones. Maybe put short clips at the end of your videos.
The difference between a true/traveller GMT and a caller/office GMT is the complexity of the manufacture. The first is a movement designed specifically with all the clutches and gears to link and separate the time mechanisms with the GMT function and the second class of movements is simply an adaptation of the day set function.
I wonder why they don't make true GMTs with quick set dates. It would be great if they worked like the caller GMTs where turning one way advances the hour and turning the other way advances the date.
Having been blessed with a JOMW heart, I feel emboldened to say that excessively ovvious GMT hands detract from most watches. I sold my Christopher Ward C63 GMT because the GMT hand detracted from the watch. I kept my C63 Auto b3cause it was/is perfection.
I love Swatches, so I say this in the nicest way that somehow, this Bulova Oceanographer GMT just has a look that totally gives off Swatch vibes. It isn't a bad thing, though.
Yep, price is absolutely ridiculous! WTF didn’t they change the lume pip on the GMT hand from the seconds hand???? I like this and Bulova, but they can never get it right for me… frustrating! Great review mate 👍
I think the gmt hand is great, it’s there when you want it but fades into the background when you don’t. I love my black bay pro but the it’s not as legible as a 3 hander. This is definitively the stand out model and it looks great. My issue with this watch is the lume, if you have a full lume dial you don’t need any other lume and they look amazing with blacked out hands and indices.
I looked at a Devil Diver on a bracelet, and the clasp seemed cheap and thin. The execution of the cyclops is very nicely done; however, combining a sector dial, a thin second hand, and a GMT hand seems rather busy. It's good to know that flyer GMTs don't have a quick-set date. Overall I guess this is one of those watches that I want to like more than I do. To each his own. 🤷♂
I really like the design. It looks different. But I agree, the GMT hand looks rather small. Alhtough I don't know how they should have designed it, without overpowering that dial 🤔
White second hand makes sense when GMT hand looks almost identical. They should have made GMT hand a bit thicker with a bigger lumed... poiner? I have no idea what the right word is. But overal, I really enjoy the design of this watch. It surely is original, well lumed and... fun.
Honestly my biggest gripe with the whole range of Devil Divers are the tiny hands. They only extend to like 2/3 of the dial and it throws the whole look off.
At first glance, especially if you are not familiar with the watch, it does seem that way, but in actuality, the hands are perfectly proportional, note the minute markers are way inboard of the rehaut, so therefor the minute hand reaches out perfectly to the minute marks.
Maybe they should have used a non dive style dial and case like a Vario Empire GMT. I like it nonetheless. Speaking of non dive style watches, I believe we were told of a possible soon unveiling of a GADA watch from a certain Australian / Scottish Microbrand…🤔
So I have no idea what’s going on with the numbers. Why up to 24? What’s a GMT watch? I really have no idea. Why doesn’t it just have the hours marked on it?
The GMT hand (second time zone) moves once every 24 hrs. This way you can see at a glance whether it is day or night at the second time zone. For those watches with a GMT bezel, a third time zone can even be shown at the same time.
These was not made with jets in mind, but with sails, Jody. For those who surf the waves through time zones and adjust their watches every or couple of days. Oceanographer, you know? 😉
The blue would be my choice out of the three. But the price is silly. If I wanted a Miyota 9075 GMT diver, I’d go for either the Lorier Hydra or the Traska Venturer which offer much better value for money.
I want to add a Bulova to my collection, but there is always something that puts me off. This time it’s the plated case. They never age gracefully in my experience. Oh well, I’m still searching for the unicorn Bulova.
For me the bigger point is travel. Unless you're someone who travels for work, you'd have to take a lot of vacations for that isolated hour hand to truly be significantly worth it.
Have that small a GMT hand on a 'Caller' GMT would be bad enough... Bu doing it on a 'True' GMT is even worse 🤦♂It's a shame, as it's a good looking watch otherwise too. The price is pretty steep though. I recently got the Zelos Mako 'True' GMT with a meteorite dial as well, and that is way less expensive... Not to mention with a more leadable GMT hand too.
$2k Aussie and have to wind the hour hand around 30~ times or whatever to set the day.. yeah no. I did buy the green non gmt 666 diver while on vacation a few years ago.. I like it but I got sort of hosed on the price (but i was a tad bit drunk and on vactation... meh). But I don't want this GMT one at all... I don't like the busy dial very much.
I mean, even on a GMT watch you are checking the main three hands most of the times. WHEN you need to know the time of the other time zone, you can take the luxury of spending an additional second to check the small fourth hand. I don't think it's a big deal.
Taking the opposite approach to something like the Nezumi Aviera GMT - not a watch I think you've reviewed Jodie - unless I missed it! On that one, the GMT is THE most dominant hand. Both valid design choices imho, and depends on what you want from your GMT - an "at a glance" reference, or a slightly more recessive secondary bit of info. Go on Jodi, review the Nezumi. You've done a couple of other watches by them, why not do their best (again, imho) design?
I’ve never wanted a GMT because the fourth hand is always so prominent and makes me confused about the time. If I were to buy a GMT I’d buy this one precisely because the GMT hand is so subtle. I LOVE that. Since I will never need to know the GMT time every time I look at my watch, this would be so much better as an every day watch.
Agreed. Now about that price....
Agreed. They're neat but I dont change time zones much at all and in the event I do, I'd simply change the time. The 4th hand just isnt necessary for me but I've always liked the concept and functionality.
Yeah, those were my exact thoughts.
Couldn't have said it any better.
Is why I prefer 12h bezels to GMT function
Good point about the lack of quickset date you get with these movements types. Great if you only own one watch and wear it all the time, I suppose.
Great explanation of the pros and cons of the true vs caller GMTs
I gotta say i do prefer a time elapse bezel to any other bezel variation as it is THE MOST useful complication (if u can even call it that) that a watch can have aside from obviously time telling.
What about the Jet Star Jody? Flipped it?
Second note. I have the Wilton GMT with the 9075, and a Seiko Recraft with 7S movement. These two are the reason I caved and bought a watch winder. Much easier to just let them run (frankly with so many watches in rotation, the “issue” of wearing out the movement was secondary to the convenience of resetting the watches 🤷)

love it, however I was pretty shocked the full lumed dial didn't last longer
I had the green one. The seal breaker for me was the non hacking movement. Also found the 20mm lug width to be disproportionately small for that version with a bigger case. I’ve heard they started making them with a hacking movement. When I know that’s officially the case, i intend to get it again.

Those little perspex hour markers are different. it's nice to see some innovation.
Any chance you can say where you got it for about ½ retail and in installments? Thanks!
Mr Jody, I wonder if you might discuss or even review some watches featured in the recent British water makers show in London? I watched it online and there were some great pieces, will you be attending next year?
I like the integrated rubber strap, could you test this on n your Origin, and other combinations?🙏🏻
What a coincidence! I'm wearing mine as you speak in the video and realizing which watch you're going on about. I don't usually wear it, though; much as I love to stare at it, I'm not usually big on actually wearing it. Too pretty on someone who comes across the way I do.
Hi great video as always. What's your opinion of eterna watches no one seems to do any reviews on them
My father owns two and I own one. They’re genuinely amazing value, proper tudor quality if not better. Compared to my black bay.
Brand is managed so fucking poorly though 😂
@@Xithz thanks for the reply I much appreciate it
im thinking about getting a bulova surfboard chrono
Very cool! The one that I have not reviewed as yet! It is gonna happen though..... Cheers!
I love mine! (Don't get the blue dial, it's not legible -- champagne with the blue surfboard is the way to go!)
Im so glad you reviewed this, it seems the best of the new GMT's. I like the green and this full lume one. I see them for £550ish over here. I might buy the full lume and get A1 to paint the gmt red.....

Lovely looking watch , got the green one with the jubilee, wears great.
Bulova, oh Bulova, I'm full of ya. 😢
Ok,ok, spoken to soon, I love the lumed dial!🙏👏
I actually like the way they've used an unobtrusive GMT hand. Some GMT hands are pretty in-your-face, and kind of dominate the dial. I like this 'less is more' approach, and let's face it, how many times does the average GMT owner actually check the second time zone on their watch?😀
x1000. Well said
well said. I was a good 30 seconds into the review (no audio) before I realized it was a GMT....not a bad thing at all.
Agree. It's a definite design choice. Means finding the second time zone is slightly more recessive, but doesn't get in the way of the design. I think it's a valid option.
Last month in Mauritius - with my Pagani “Batman”
I even went snorkelling with it….. at least down to 3 metres (that’s all my ears can take)
The Marine Star Precisionist is vera interesting. I Mike the 96B433 and the 96B434
The normal Devil Diver is fantastic & I feel much more sleek than a comparable Seiko Turtle. Probably gonna get the Green someday
I love the watch BUT they should have made the case stainless steel imo. I can't do the PVD stuff. The coating never lasts.
Sample of retailers over here (GB) show majority white hand, including Bulova
I don't know if its just me but your last few videos seem to have lower audio. Mind boosting it up a bit?
Just received my first gmt today and I am very confused, what is the odd numbers for in between the indices , I understand the nh34 watches but not mine or bulova
Turns out mine is faulty. Part of the confusion, answered but still not sure what the odd numbers are for
Shorted now it’s a 24hour GMT not a 12 hour, excuse it’s my first GMT
It’s pretty classy Jody. If you backwind to 9 then 12 should be able to quickset it
That lack of a quickset date is a huge problem I have with my Aqua Terra 8900
Almost missed this video due to the thumbnail. I've been interested in this same watch and color for a while. Hope it's a good review!
Love my Devil diver and this colorway looks great.
Is there a devil diver with that color?
Good explanation of mechanism, reminds me of a vintage watch without quick set for date. I suspect that one will be sold before its paid for.
Thank you for explaining the gmt controversy.
Jody, please do a review on the Tisell GMT using the same Miyota 9075. Thank you
Yes very nice looking watch, I like the nickel coating. I think Bulova could easily improve legibility by making the GMT hand a brighter colour. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find this on sale at a more reasonable price.
After getting my first "true" gmt this month, i can’t agree more with the date setting.
A true gmt is a hassle having it in a bigger collection…
I’ll admit i didn’t think about it beforehand!
I love using Klarna lol. I do that for things too.
I think that looks very cool, also like the colors. Thanks for the comments about flyer vs office GMT.
This thing looks so dope in person, I want.
Thank you for great review, I enjoyed the presentation of Bulova, I believe 3 year warranty is great
Great Video, Jody. I really like the Bulova back catalogue. I have the Lunar Pilot, Aerojet, and the American Clipper. I quite like the am/pm indicator on my Aerojet, useless as it is. Actually, the Aerojet would have been good as a GMT instead.
The Pepsi variant seems to address your concerns about the stealth GMT hand.
I've the green version and love it 😊
That smaller GMT hand is a great feature, and compared to so many divers on the market, this is much less generic.
In Europe there is a green version, and it´s priced about 800 eur
This is a very lovely watch. It has to be my favorite Devil Diver. I'm not a huge fan of the GMT. I'd rather have it in a 3 hander.

The first is a movement designed specifically with all the clutches and gears to link and separate the time mechanisms with the GMT function and the second class of movements is simply an adaptation of the day set function.
Nice, but why won't they make anything
Love the watch, wish it came in orange with the rubber strap
I wonder why they don't make true GMTs with quick set dates. It would be great if they worked like the caller GMTs where turning one way advances the hour and turning the other way advances the date.
I'm glad someone finally bought up the potential issue with travellers GMT for those of us who don't own our own private jets.
I've always thought it was false snobbery and made no sense in the real world.
Love mine. Great watch. Comfortable and great looking.
If they sold this one (with the lume dial) as a 3 hander with the 9000 series for under $500 I'd have one. But they don't.
The tiny GMT hand is a smart call... The GMT is a secondary function, it should fade into the background.
Having been blessed with a JOMW heart, I feel emboldened to say that excessively ovvious GMT hands detract from most watches. I sold my Christopher Ward C63 GMT because the GMT hand detracted from the watch. I kept my C63 Auto b3cause it was/is perfection.
Beautiful! Great review Jody
Thanks for explaining the types of GMT. And demo of this one. I know the difference now! =) Great review, thanks.
It's a stealth GMT Jody. Try to keep up mate! 🤣❤ I love the colors. Great looking piece
Great review mate 👍
they should have made the gmt hand red like the omega 2234.50
true say
The Pepsi version of it is red. And it is on a bracelet too.
Get the blue one Jody, the red GMT hand is much easier to see on it! 😊
I looked at a Devil Diver on a bracelet, and the clasp seemed cheap and thin. The execution of the cyclops is very nicely done; however, combining a sector dial, a thin second hand, and a GMT hand seems rather busy. tiny hands? that thing should run for president of the USA
@@AK_Russki I get that. The minute markers are in an odd place. Still looks... off.
Of WE talk about GMT... What is about the Citizen Promaster Sly NB6045-51H
Maybe they should have used a non dive style dial and case like a Vario Empire GMT. I like it nonetheless. Speaking of non dive style watches, I believe we were told of a possible soon unveiling of a GADA watch from a certain Australian / Scottish Microbrand…🤔
The only Bulova I crave for is the Accutron II Surveyor in white dial and blue seconds hand (96B213). Nothing more... nothing less.
The first GMT I’m into cause of the subtle hand, I always hated the huge colorful GMT hands on other watches, for me this is the way. 👌
Good stuff, actually like this.
I like the more subtle GMT hand, much nicer than the clownish gigantic red arrows like on most GMT's.

I want to add a Bulova to my collection, but there is always something that puts me off. This time it’s the plated case. They never age gracefully in my experience. Oh well, I’m still searching for the unicorn Bulova.
Great rant about GMTs, a quick-set date would be a valid reason to avoid the "true GMT" for most people, one that is probably overlooked.
For me the bigger point is travel. Unless you're someone who travels for work, you'd have to take a lot of vacations for that isolated hour hand to truly be significantly worth it.
The true gmt arguments will soon be over now affordable brands are getting hands on them. The whole thing was about snobbery.
This line might usher in a whole new subcategory of watches---the "Can't See MT".
I like what they did with the gmt hand. Most are just obtrusive. Nicely done Bulova
yeah, the GMT hand is comically small, but this watch is a reall looker. And I love GMTs with timing bezels; true GADA watches
