FM radio is becoming what AM radio is now and has been for many years. Sports, news, talk, etc. have been major staples on these frequencies. Its inevitable because of streaming services like Spotify. Apple music and RUclips, There is not a heavy demand for music to be on the FM frequencies like yesteryear.

I’m beginning to think that most gnus talk stations Will start migrating from a.m. to FM in the near future. at the very least I think it’s safe to predict, KROQ in Los Angeles might flip to sports in the next year NWDCHN Detroit Will probably become a simulcast of WWJ. since those radio stations are not doing quite well anymore and KROQ you has never really recovered in the ratings since iHeart media launched its own alternative rock format on KYSR FM. just like in the early days when music migrated from a.m. to FM I think that’s what’s happening with gnus talk and podcasts making the transition to FM in the near future

the guy who killed KROQ is the same exec who killed ALT 92.3 in NYC, and several other stations.

@@nycradiofan totally agree. but since he’s fired I think now or maybe if they bring a new program Director then maybe those existing alternative rock stations might pick up steam in the ratings but only time will tell. because the alternative station that iHeart media owns for example in Charlotte North Carolina and in Houston and Minneapolis actually do quite well in the ratings so I think like you mentioned before Mike Kaplan who used to be in charge of programming alternative for an odyssey cluster drove most of those stations to the ground

@@nycradiofan according to Cain and Cory Who were the morning hosts at WNYL, and a few other odyssey owned alternative rock stations, said in a press release that Myq Kaplan was let go after the announcement that WNYL would flip to a simulcast of WINS.

@@nycradiofanKevin weatherly has since taken over PD for KROQ and apparently the ratings have gone up since. For Mike Kaplin he’s just been hired to be the PD for WRFF in Philly.

This is a station that has had an identity crisis over the decades. It doesn't know what works as a sucessful format in the long term (20+ year range).

Why in the world would they waste a classic New York City radio frequency on an All News station??? Especially one that's already been broadcasting for decades on AM radio? Absolutely idiotic.

Because money. Because ALT wasn’t performing. Because WINS is the most listened to news station in the country. Oh yeah there were no other frequencies to put it on. Just to name a few reasons
