They narrowly secured the last spot in playoffs (it was a tie but they had a better spring split than the team they tied with), they got the last spot at the regional qualifier, and narrowly got the last seed at worlds in an upset win. Because they were the last seed, they got put in the "play-ins" round, which several analysts predicted they would not escape. They went undefeated, beating RNG, the MSI champions. This got them into the groups stage, where they once again took first place, securing them a spot in Quarterfinals. From Quarterfinals onward, every match they played was against Deft's former teammates. First they were against Edward Gaming, Deft's former team which had won worlds last year without him. In a reverse sweep, DRX won. Then they fought Gen.G, the LCK champions, the current team of Doran and Chovy, his former teammates from 2020, who had since become legends of their roles. 3-1 DRX win. DRX were by far the least favored team on their side of the bracket, and they were going to finals. This meant facing T1. Yes it was the team of Faker, the greatest player in history, but more importantly, it was the team of Keria. In 2020, Keria was Deft's support, on that same team with Doran and Chovy. It was Keria's LCK debut, and at that time he made a promise to Deft. He promised to bring Deft the Worlds trophy, the last achievement Deft had never reached. They did not, at that time, succeed. Keria moved on to T1, the most prestigious team in the world, and made a name for himself as possibly the greatest support player of all time. He was the only support player in history to be split MVP, and when T1 was experimenting with a 10-man roster, Keria was the only one who was never substituted. In a way, Keria kept his promise. Until now, Deft has had a bit of a reputation for getting left behind. Over and over again, his teammates or teams have left him and gone on to achieve incredible things. This year it was Deft's turn. Against all expectations, he climbed past all his old teammates and finally, after years and years of falling just short, became the World Champion.

On the last play- they thought Kingen used TP to get behind the pit at the start of the fight. He had actually stayed there from the previous play (watch it back, Kingen was incredibly patient). They went for the TP because it was a free win (if Kingen doesn't have TP), but as we all saw, he did and DRX was able to hold. Crazy ending to a crazy series!
it was weird because Kingen actually didn't use TP once after 11 minutes in that game 5. which could have made it difficult for T1 to track his TP and made it so that they couldn't be sure if he had it or not for certain fights. whether this was intentional or just circumstance is hard to say but it definitely mattered for that final push.
The ending to both the finals and this video were fucking amazing. I honestly think it'd be funnier if they won next year and you have just a single marked out number.

When Atrioc talks about being in the moment for watching these types of things, for me, there really is something incredible and inspiring about viewing the pinnacle of human achievement in a sportsman's selected craft, and watching the greatest and most powerful moment of all their lives men. I feel the same every time I watch the wrestling NCAA's, and I felt the same as I watched the GOAT of wrestling Spencer Lee get pinned in the semifinals this year. I remember watching a football match right after my final final school exam with my class at the pub, I don't watch football but it was my country vs another in a qualifying match. The game was pretty close with a few ups and downs but in the last few minutes, we somehow managed to score a winning goal. the pub went silent in what felt like forever, everyone staring at the tv, someone knocks a pint off the table across from us, it smashes, breaking the silence and everyone proceeds to lost their collective shits celebrating the win. The energy in the pub, in that moment somehow beat out the highs from all the festivals, concerts & events I've ever been to. Those moments, like gumas barron steal do just hit different.
As much as Big A was sad about the results I couldn't been happier. I Love T1, I was already happy to see them in a finals again and if they were against any other team I would be rooting for them, BUT... in this finals I had to root for deft, it was just too perfect of a story. Also Faker and T1 winning another worlds honestly doesn't change anything, it is just one more trophy to them, Faker will always be the GOAT with 3,5 or 10 trophies no matter what, but for DEFT that meant a lot more, it was his entire carreer and after seeing him crying and how happy he was at the interview it just felt right. Besides next year Faker will probably come and grab his trophy back anyway, so don't worry Big A.

I was 2nd row seats at Worlds this year, and I will say… the most hype crowd I been apart of, or even seen for that matter. It was truly epic the level of energy in that damn stadium. Fun fact: You couldn’t even hear Fakers name in the arena when Dash introduced him at opening ceremony - That is how deafening the crowd was. It was literally insane!
