The main difference in rentals at the moment between the two countries is that Ireland has about 1500 places for rent on Daft, and the NLs has 15000 on Funda. Daft has all rentals pretty much, Funda only has a portion of rentals. The Netherlands is half the size in terms of square km, but 3.6 times the population. Apartment living is more popular in the Netherlands which helps. Overall the rental market is worse in Ireland due to a low amount of housing and apartments.
Both Dublin and Amsterdam are tech hubs, both European, both cool, both EU, both have housing crises, both have high standards of living, as in Berlin, Copenhagen, etc., the big difference is that Dublin is fun and the people are way friendlier
You clearly haven’t been to Amsterdam if you think it’s not fun! It’s a very vibrant and fun city and the weather is a little better than Dublin as well

I think you're very correct in not disclosing your personal details. In fact you possibly gave away too much. Everything is available online. So, anyone can find out if they really want to.
No mention of the nightlife, the pubs are fantastic in Dublin. No mention of food either or the people in general. Very friendly people in Ireland in general.
Wow this video was really good and super helpful to me personally, thank you! I just moved back to my hometown after a year living in Portugal and I'll probably move again soon. I definitely assumed you were American too. I would say I'm pretty fluent in English but I do not sound like that hehe (ma vabbè hai vissuto a Milano, sai come parliamo inglese)
Crazy that people are now overbidding for rentals =/ When I was looking a few months back...I was also thinking, "Should I overbid?" because it was so competitive. Luckily, I didn't have to. But thanks for sharing, stumbled upon this while doing research (and looking for inspiration for future video ideas about NL). Nice to see another expat RUclipsr in AMS/NL too (there aren't too many), keep it up!
Hey Lenny great video! Really nice of you to share your experiences and impressions! I hope to get to the point where you are some day. Just getting into tech/software and I think I will need some experience first.
I live back n forth btw US and Ireland, and I laughed out loud when you said there was only ONE day on which you didn’t have to wear a jacket… I feel vindicated, and I am going to show this to my Irish husband who says Ireland has lovely summers. 😂 Also, as an American, I can tell you’re not American (though your pronunciations mainly are). A wild guess would be that Spanish and Danish (or maybe German) are your first two languages…😁 Am I even close?!❤
While I can respect enjoying life in the heart of Amsterdam, getting a place a little further outside is not really a problem considering how well connected everything is. Even living in Amstelveen, Hoofddorp, Haarlem, Diemen or Zaandam and commuting to your workplace in Amsterdam is perfectly doable... especially if your company can provide with a transportation card (many do). I'm currently in a student residence complex in Hoofddorp and commute to Amsterdam Zuid almost every day.

Hi, Lenny. I have been intensively studying English for 1.5 years, and when I came across your youtube chanel, I was dafinitely sure that you are native english speaker, and you are american, from, for example, North Carolina, because of your stress intonation. Your english is beautifull!!! But, as you said this was not the case. I am curious what is your native language and how long had you been studying English to get such amazing results.
I've been to both cities, and it's a toss-up which is better, although Amsterdam is the more convenient location. As far as saying where you work, I don't blame you for not saying. If anyone knows my name, just Google it and my employment is right there. My income isn't much of a secret either, but if anyone asks I'll tell them there's no need for both of us to cry about it, before telling them. I'm in I.T. in California. It's cheap for me because my house is paid in full and work is extremely close (like five minutes away). There's no reason to move. Good video.
Hi Lenny - I'm an old guy living near Amsterdam. I was surprised to hear that English is not your native language. You speak fluent English with an American accent which makes it sound as though it is your native language. I'm curious to know what your mother tongue actually is 🙂
She speaks English almost like a native American except for a rare pronunciation quirk once in a while. She mentioned early in her channel she was born in Russia. She learned to speak Chinese and maybe even Hebrew -- two difficult languages for Europeans to learn.
@@lenny.winter it's a docu-like filming and always has an angle from which you depict subjects and city-scapes fitting the imformation as such. It has a flow alltogether.
You mention and cons about living in each place, you dont mention about the people and culture of each place, I guess you dont want to offend either nationality..
Current Inflation is being driven up mostly by fuel prices, If we switch to Nuclear power and give greater incentives to buy electric cars (including subsidising and prioritising lithium battery production) this problem will subside substantially over time. Also, many countries are going for the practical short term measures of taxing fossil fuel company profits to discourage extortionate profiteering… Overall though, Society’s rejection of Nuclear power was a massive mistake, and the environment has payed dearly for it as we continue to rely on fossil fuels for our electricity.
Awesome helpful video & that’s impressive - it’s my goal to be trilingual! Where are you from? I’m not sure if you’ve mentioned it in other videos or something, sorry.
Your English is excellent and I hope you set the nasty commentor who assumed you were American straight. People assume I'm American by my accent as well and I'm not I'm European they ate often surprised even when I go through customs and they see my passport.
Hey this is amazing content ! I really enjoy your videos. Thank you. I would also appreciate if you could touch upon social circles in Dublin (or other cities). How do you actually make a circle of friends and what kind of activities one could get engaged in? All the best!
Your RUclips page says your location is the United States. I think this is why people think you're from the US. You clearly have a non-US accent to a native English speaker from the US, but I think this may be the source of the confusion. Thanks for the informative video!
Can I work in Ireland as a travel associeted or call center? I'm planning to travel to Dublin next year and I wanna know if I can work while I'm studying
Fun fact: I believe you are from USA and a lot of Americans really are looking to get a VISA here in Europe, in the same time like a lot of Europeans are trying to look for a way to gain a VISA for the USA and win the green card.
Perhaps the previous comment which was referred to in the video about English was misinterpreted and incorrectly construed as a slight, a jibe or insult. The domination of any language removes the essence of cultural identity and promotes societal homogenisation. If you speak two other languages, as I do, there remains the hope that the art of conversation must never deflate to the depths of the slough of despondency.
OMG, I couldn't have imaged the Dutch not allowing dual citizenship! I thought they were tolerant and open minded people. The Belgians don't do such a thing and they're almost half Dutch.
