I had to make the same choice 30 years ago. I made 1st chair Allstate band and had Phil Woods scholarship to Berkely music but I listened to my father , gave up the sax and learned another trade so I could make a living. I regret that now because I was on track to be a great player.
Jazz Morgan Looking back, I very much agree! I was trying to cut a huge interview down as short as possible. I really appreciate the constructive criticism, and didn’t take it personally!
Chad since you were only a musician I will tell you as a young accountant I also just barely scraped by and had to take a less expensive apartment. At 66 I finally found something I was meant to do. You are lucky....you knew right away. I learned a tremendous amount from your development, it applies to development in any field.
I currently play my altered dominants on the street because it makes me happy to play almost every day. I live in a camper and have little overhead have a few students. I might add I'm an expat living in Copenhagen Denmark. I play my arrangements and originals.
thanks bro luv ya guy thanks for being open and honest!!! I'm in Brasil but born and raised in Boston come down and play in the bigger towns São Paulo, Rio and Belo Horizonte for sure. I saw your gig in Campinas on RUclips and the piano player is a friend I played with his dad many yrs ago.
Great interview Julian keep up the great work!! Come down here tons of super musicians and styles of music. I have som friends living and gigging in the USA also. May be interview material!!
Chad you are so right, perspective is everything. There is a certain life satisfaction And panache You get. You will not have this being a big company COG.
Once again, sorry for the overwhelming jump cuts. This was in my early days of editing, and feel that my videos have been getting progressively better ever since!
Lol... sorry again, my editing has progressed a ton since then. If you watch some of my newer videos, I’m sure you’d enjoy them more. Hope you have a good one!
I know how to make a million dollars playing jazz. Start with 2 million. Jazz guitarist: Plays a million chords to an audience of 20. Rock guitarist: Plays 3 chords to an audience of 20 million. How can you tell if the stage is level? The drummer is drooling from both sides of his mouth.
Hello Michael, sorry that you feel this was about the video. As I mentioned in another comment, my video editing skills were not up to par at the time of making this video. I feel that my skill set has since improved greatly, if you take a look at one of my newer videos. Sorry for the annoying cuts, there will be no more of that on my channel in the future. Hopefully more videos with Chad will be coming soon (without the annoying editing). :)
an idea: dont edit his responses. little pauses or hesitation spots are cool. thanks for the interview!

Wise words. Best to you!
Lets face it none of us get into music because we thought we are gonna make a lot of money
That editing drives me crazy
Sorry about that. My editing skills are getting much better with each new video I make!
I really enjoyed the interview but I found the jump cuts little distracting, hope you didn’t take to personal :)

Well done interview. Chad is a talented jazz musician and educator.

Running into one of Chad's videos was probably the best accident to ever happen to me. What a source of inspiration!
I'm sure he would be very happy to hear that!!
I think he might have been talking about Liebman at the beginning

Imagine if every time Miles left space in his solo, Rudy van Gelder cut to the next entrance...
Once again, sorry for the overwhelming jump cuts. This was in my early days of editing, and feel that my videos have been getting progressively better ever since!

I like the editing, I find it quick. I get the information fast. I try not to waste time and this was edited really well
Thank you!! Appreciate the positivity!!
100% agree, I’m only here for information not entertainment
How good is the income stream from online teaching? Seems like a serious business for some jazz musicians that they push pretty hard.
Right On fellas !!
Thanks Adam :)

Don't like how his personality came across here at all, stuck up, very gate keeper like, definitely no longer a fan.
Most terrible editing ever cant watch
The editing are so bad. It destroys the interview totally. Make a new version. please!
