I think run by run comparison is a good way to go around it! Maybe one thing to add when reviewing new shoes is some reference to older shoes. "If you liked these you might like this new one". Can't wait for race day video!
I absolutely love my speed 4’s. They’re my first pair of Sacouny’s and I’m glad I made the switch. I’ve worn Brooks and Hoka’s in the past. These are a good mixture of both. A very responsive shoe but a great deal of cushion as well. I love the nylon plate. Very breathable. A little pricey as mentioned but you pay for what you get. Hopefully they continue to build upon these and next model will be even better. Definitely will be staying with Sacouny
Great review Loyd. I completely agree with you. The 3’s are a little disappointing compared to the amazing versions 1 and 2’s. Saying that the pro 3 I think are really good with a little more pop than the pro 1. Haven’t yet tried the 4 range. Would really like a pair or each. Saucony for me are really my go to shoe for road and trail. Glad I found the endorphin range! 😊
Great review and I agree. I loved the 2’s and I ran my 5k pb in them. Only issue I had was they did become unstable on long runs, especially as your legs got tired. The 3’s were a lot more stable but like you said they lost a bit of that pop in the midsole. Have just got a pair of the 4’s and they are so much better. Basically they have taken the pop of the 2’s and the stability of the 3’s. I agree it’s a shame they have gone up in price but thankfully I got mine for £152.99.
I absolutely adored my Speed 3’a. Never ran in the 1 or 2 so don’t know how they compare. But I’m happy to say that he 4’s are a fantastic shoe and I think, like the 3’s, will be my favorite running shoe!
For me slightly better than V3 but not as amazing as the original. Still a very comfy daily trainer. The pro now feels more like the speed 1+2. Thanks for review . Speed 1 even with its instability was my fav road shoe to date!
My first impressions are pretty much the same as yours. After 3 runs in the Speed 4, it does have a bit more of a bounce than the pretty bland feeling Speed 3. But still no comparison to versions 1 and 2. Those shoes were game changers for me, the best shoes I've ever run in. Felt I could just fly in those.
Never heard the ES3 compared to the ride before. Appreciate Loyd preferred the 1&2 but still think the 3 is an excellent shoe and has proved popular and won a lot of plaudits. Also worth saying the price hike appears to not have happened across the pond. Make of that what you will.
Great format Loyd, the comparison really helped. I loved the 2nd Speed version, the 3rd…did nothing for me (gave up on them after 40k ish)….damn it, I’m going to have to invest in the 4 now! 😂
Awww, I love the Speed 3s! 😂 But I do almost exclusively use them for longer training runs - so nothing too flashy. Their best feature has been insane build quality! All three pairs I've had have been absolute tanks, far exceeding 500 miles. Excited now to get hands on the 4s though!
Nice review. Looking to upgrade my half marathon shoe, currently running in Saucony Tempus and going back and forth between Endorphin Speed and Endorphin Pro series.
First, with a real comment! I have had my speed 4s for a couple of weeks now and as much as I want to like them, in fact, I’m desperate to like them, I find them a bit….. soft, I can actually feel where the foam folds over the nylon plate and I find it takes a bit of the energy return out of them. They look great, they feel slightly better at speed, but ‘fold’ a bit at medium to slower pace.
Thanks for the review. I feel the same with the ES3. ES1 n ES2 was unstable but it feels fast and very exciting to run it compared to ES3 which has lower mileage. Might put the ES4 on hold as i dont feel it especially with the price increase. Maybe going to search for a discounted ES2 😅
Thanks for another good video Loyd. I’d love to try them but they’re just too expensive. Don’t think I’ll be trying them any time soon. Will stick my Novoblasts for now
Hi Loyd, it's been a while since i left a comment, but great review as usual ! To me it's a good idea to compare the two models moreover if you dont have such memory of the old one. Maybe you could precise the milage you ran in the previous version (unless i missed something ? 🤔)
Thanks for another good and informative video. To me it sounds like the Speed 3 gets into trouble when you increase the speed. And you are a fast bloke. Myself run around 8miles/min (5km/min). Do you still think Speed 4 would be first choice of the two?
The Speed 3 feels a bit flat when you up the tempo but I personally feel that the 4’s just feel and perform better at any pace! Hope this helps thanks for watching 🙏
LLoyd, if you get a chance to test TYR Valkrie Speedworks, it would be great. This new entry to the market seems to be re-incarnation of Endorphin Speed 2 (except it is 5mm drop vs 8mm). They also have a carbon plated model, TYR Valkrie Elite Carbon.
Interesting you liked the 4 a lot more than the 3. I found them very similar if a slightly better fit on the 4. I did a couple of hour runs with a 3 on one foot and 4 on the other and then reversed it for the second run and soon into both runs I could not really tell which was which without looking down!. Both my 3 and 4 had done a similar amount of miles - about 50. How much have you done in your 3?
Interesting Tim, I’ve never really got on with the 3’s right from the start. I ran a lot of miles in the original Endorphin and the 2’s and they just didn’t have that exciting feel, they felt pretty flat to me? I’m not a fan of putting one shoe on each foot because I don’t think I’d run naturally doing that. Ive run around 40-50 miles in the 3’s so I understand that they’d done more mileage than my new 4’s but like I said I’ve never really enjoyed the Endorphin Speed 3 🤔 Hope you’re fit and well and thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Agree that the 3 was a bit of a disappointment after the 1/2 but I still got through one pair of the 3 and this A-B test was on my newer 2nd pair. I figured after a few mins if they felt so different it felt was a really bad idea I would stop but they didn't! If the stack height and drops were different then I certainly would not try that for very long but AFAIK they are the same in the 3 & 4. Anyway all things considered vote also for the 4 for me albeit less clearcut.
I guess I'm the only one who feels the 3s are lighter than the 4s. I really feel with the 4, I have to put far more effort with each step while with the 3, it felt like I wasn't wearing a shoe. I do agree that the upper and midsole are far better on the 4, though. On the 3 it almost feels like your foot is directly hitting the pavement.
Where can one pick up the BOA retrofit system that you've installed on your Speed 3s? I still have plenty of life left in my Speed 3s here with a pair of Speed OGs (400+ miles and still fine) in reserve as backup.
I find the 2's a bit unstable, so don't use them much; the 3's are much better and more versatile. Reviews of the 4 are pretty variable, so happy I don't need any yet.
The 2’s were definitely less stable than the 3’s. Saucony added the winged midfoot plate to help with midsole stability and it worked well. Unfortunately I think it also took some of the bounce and excitement out of the shoe 👍
@@Run4Adventure Yes, a lot of people rave about the 2's. I'm fine with them when I'm feeling fresh, but just a little tiredness and I feel the instability. It probably doesn't help that I have mild pronation; my favourite daily shoes are my Saucony Tempus, which I can run for hours in. Just ordered some Endorphin Edge Trail shoes (£85) to compliment my Xodus Ultras, so looking forward to some Ultras later this year! Your reviews are great, and whilst you didn't rave about the Endorphin Edge Trails, I could tell they are likely to be perfect for me on the canal paths, fields and woodland I run on. I tried the Agility Peak 5, but the 9 was too tight in the toe box and the 9.5 couldn't get a lockdown at the heel.
I haven’t run in the Mizuno shoe so it’s hard to say. I’ve got to be honest, the Rebellion Flash 2 looks like a crazy shoe so I’d go with the Endorphin Speed 4 👍
I got on decently with the Speed 3, but the heel in that model put me off. I switched to the Asics Magic Speed 3 which is a MUCH better shoe than the Speed 3 in my very humble and personal opinion. The weight on this shoe puts me off to be fair. Again, in comparison to my much beloved Magic Speed 3's this new rendition of the Speed-series is really heavy. Having said that, if Loyd gets on with a shoe it usually works for me as well. For the time being I'll pass and see if I can get an extra pair of the Magic Speed 3's.
I hate the upper. It changed in that the upper pulls in tight when lacing and I need to use the lace lock to secure it, just killing my feet. Loved the prior versions with v2 definitely the best. I hate these so much I'm moving off of Sauconys completely.
Am I the only person who gets a weird feeling when Loyd reviews a road shoe 🤣🤣🤷♂ For my two-penneth, I'd rather pay £20 more and get the Asics Superblast, and I did! And to qualify that statement, I have had two pairs of Speed 1, two pairs of Speed 2 and a pair of Speed 3 and loved 1&2 but 3 felt a bit blunted in comparison. I've done my last 10 runs and 65 miles in the Superblast and they are unreal, you could even use them for racing if you only wanted to buy one shoe.

Looks like a shoe i will pick up in the sale considering you can get a Adidas pro 3 for £150
I absolutely love the 3s (I actually preferred them to the 2s) but I can’t wait to try these, top video as always

Totally agree
Nice! Looking forward to getting a pair of these when they become a sensible price for a few bits of foam glued together

It looks like good old brexit strikes again! I was wondering, did you run in the Endorphin Speed 1 and 2? 🤔
That price tag is rough, I am able to get hold of full on race shoes like the adios pro 3 for cheaper than that most year round

I like the idea of comparing the new version to the previous one. It saves us from having to seek out the old video.
Glad you enjoyed it Grant and thanks for watching 🙏🙂
