I’d love to see a video on painting with oils in a non toxic way, including mediums and cleanup. I’ve only used acrylics and the thought of adding more supplies to my stash is daunting. But, I was gifted a set of oil paints for Christmas so I’m game to try.
I’d love to see you do oil painting! We’ve had a similar art school experience. After an art show in my senior year high school my artwork was stolen from the teachers closet along with 3 other students. It was supposed to be photographed and sent with my submission to local art collages. I was so upset I walked away from art and the possibility of art school but here I am 45 yrs later back into art. Thank you for sharing your story, I feel very inspired by it and you. ❤
That’s such a heartbreaking story, I'm so sorry that happened! But I'm so glad you're back into art! It has brought me so much joy to rediscover if! I hope it dies for you as well! Thank you for watching!
Hi Amy, great video. The fact that you did the oil painting in 45 minutes blows my mind! It usually takes me hours to finish a painting, but I am still pretty new to painting. I’ve started working in sketch book to try and loosen up and not strive so much for perfection. I would be interested in learning how you oil paint in a non toxic way. I am assuming that would be odourless as well. I live with two chronic illnesses, one is an autoimmune disease, so I need to be really careful. Really enjoying your videos, thank you for all the work you do putting them together it is greatly appreciated! Have a wonderful week.
What a different, and interesting, idea that miniature sketchbook and palette is! I've seen some what's possible with very small scale watercolour on Leslie Stroz's channel and it's something I'd like to try myself at some stage (although probably using my normal-sized palettes). If you decide to give miniature works an extended try, it'd be great to see it included in some future videos. The oil study turned out very well and, although I doubt I'll ever use oils myself, it's definitely something that interests me and I'd be very happy to see some oil work figure every so often on the channel. Thanks for the video, take care and kind regards, Brian.
Hi Brian, I also learned a lot about tiny watercolour painting from Leslie’s video! Tiny painting made art so much more accessible for me. I have quite a few tiny painting videos on my channel that you might find interesting 🤗
Hi Amy! I haven't painted with oils since I was a teenager, because of the chemicals. I just turned 61 and would love to get back into it since they now have water mixable oil paint. Jerry's Artarama has the SOHO Water-soluble Oil paint sticks that I can't wait to get my hands on! So, yes, I would love to see more oil painting on your channel. ❤
You can paint without chemicals just using regular oil paint, too. You don't have to use water soluble if you don't want to. they have made all sorts of advances in painting. I myself only paint nontoxic and I hardlyy ever used water mixables. it's about what mediums you use and there's different methods of cleaning your brush and whatnot now! Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave.A comment!
Yes I would love to see how you paint non-toxic with oils. I’ve always wanted to try them but didn’t want to deal with the smell and chemicals. Loved the doe in oils!
Love the tiny watercolour kit and your fawn painting is so sweet! I learned to paint with oils using only linseed oil to thin it and clean up brushes with Ivory bar soap or Murphy's oil soap. No solvents at all.
Ah I love that you explored and enjoyed tiny painting! I swear tiny painting has completely changed my art practice. I have a few shorts on my channel that show how I clip the tiny palette to the tiny sketchbook if that would be helpful 😊💕
Yes, yes, Amy! More oil painting tutorials. Oil was my first love so many years ago. Like you, I can close my eyes and remember the smell of the class room. Loved your upbeat attitude in this video.!!! Jody😊
I’d be interested in seeing an occasional oil paint video. Although I’m ‘into’ watercolours it’s good to see different media being used. It’s good to remember that there are people who paint in all media types. Perhaps you could do the same painting in oils and acrylic or watercolour as a comparison? BTW it was great to hear you say you are sometimes afraid of a blank sketchbook. It’s a relief to know even “real” artists have that problem, too!
Mini travel art kit hack: The least amount of loose items, the better so swatch, your palette on the last page of your mini sketchbook for quick reference as you're painting. Do not do it on the first page because typically that will be under the clip ... A swatch card becomes a nuisance when you're trying to keep everything in one hand.
What a cute little watercolor set-up! Is there any room on that tiny watercolor book to attach the palette to it? I have a small wooden palette, but it's about twice the size of yours. I used to use it a lot but I no longer like the colors I filled it with. I've learned way more about which colors are better suitable for plein air vs in studio. It's filled with Qor and Daniel Smith so I can't bring myself to rinse it out and start over. I should bring it out and try to remove the colors that I've struggled using in it tho - Mayan Blue is one of them. It's a beautiful color but it's not really a good mixing color. Maybe I should just do some experimenting and more color studies. Oh well. Love the adorable fawn in both mediums! I don't see myself using oils anytime soon. This is the year of using what I have on hand. Maybe 2026 will be different tho. I've always been interested in learning how. I simply have far too many supplies at the moment to justify starting a new medium.
Can you make a video toexplain the nontoxic way to use oils. What goes with what, how do you clean, how to layer, blend, etc. Also can youuse traditional oils with some special fluids to make them watermixable, I have heard something about schmincke having some mediums.
I am planning to try oil painting...need a bit more courage ;-) I am curious about the function of the underpainting - I saw you do it in another video... Do I need to do an underpainting for every image?
I love the deer studies - both the tiny watercolor (I absolutely love miniature everything lol) and the oils. I have never tried oils but would love to one of these days! I'm interested in learning more about the non-toxic materials and will have to do some research. I haven't searched through all of your videos yet but plan to - have you covered that topic in detail already?
No, I haven't done one yet. I keep meaning too, but I know it won't do well on RUclips, so I keep putting it off. I will at some point, probably! Thanks for watching and commenting!
The "Id Reaction" is not that uncommon especially with people sensitive to mineral spirits!" The definition is a bit difficult to explain here but there are some excellent definitions if you Google the term! ..Thank you so much for another great video!!! Yes please do more oil paintings! You truly are a wonderful Watercolor Artist so I your oil painting pueces should be equally as good!! Plus you never know you just may end up finishing your degree!!! There are some fantastic schools that offer distance lesrning now! Even contact your previous school to see if they may be able to help! With 3 and a half years under your belt and all the other experience you have gained since school... You must finish this Art Degree now Amy!...You absolutely deserve it! If anything because you are such a kind and talented person who inspires so many others! I mean even with my near 50 years of experience as a Professional Artist...you have even inspired me!! I have small sensitive critters, and have refrained from painting with oils. I would love to learn more about painting a nontoxic way with oils.
Tfs.

Yes! I can hardly wait! I hope spring comes a little early this year! Have a great weekend, Susan!
Hi Amy. I'd love to see more oil painting from you. Your process, & the mediums you've found to paint with. Solvent free painting seems much safer! ❤
