This movie always felt like it was a stand alone film. It really didn't have the Pink Panther theme or the name in its title. but it's actually my favorite entry in the whole series.
It was, originally. No one realized there would be such a response and demand for a series of Pink Panther movies, so this one was being made before the reaction happened, as I understand it.
I was in the movie theater when this film was brand new. Ir's always been my favorite. You should have heard the laughs this opening was getting when it was first seen!
Official enough. Moreso compared to the lone Alan Arkin outing from '68. Especially when it factors well with Son of the Pink Panther for the Saga's 30th
...this is the base score used later for the DePatie-Freling cartoon "The Inspector.", a Pink Panther spin-off with Pat Harrington Jr voicing the title role.
This theme is catchy I wanna dance because I’m a huge fan of Henry Mancini’s score since the entire the Pink Panther franchise. One thing for certain, it representing the Inspector cartoons. What a great intro.
My favorite "non-Pink Panther" title sequence, even though Blake Edwards/Henry Mancini were involved. 1964 was a very good year for movies during that decade.
Yes, they did... the first one ever, "The Great DeGaulle Stone Operation." They then re-appeared in a different form altogether in a series of their own, The Brothers Matzoriley, which was a segment of The Super 6 (the first TV series DePatie-Freleng had ever done) which ran on NBC from 1966-67 despite not being related to the segments seen before and after.
I felt that 2019 Academy Award nominated film "Knives Out" inspired by this film about the idea of Italian maid being suspected by the rich family but the Inspector is the only one who trusted her. And in Knives Out the South American nurse being suspected by the rich family but only the detective trusted her.
Iconic 60s movie sound, by the late great Henry Mancini. It introduced us to the brilliant Herbert Lom as Dreyfus, he and Sellers were absolutely hilarious in their scenes together. Complete insanity 😂😂
At 1.29 when the accordion starts it makes me snigger (everytime) I'm easily humoured I often just watch the film for that piece of music 🎶 😂😂😂. God bless Henry Mancini
Can anyone explain why the official Pink Panther cartoons RUclips channel removes or silences the opening credits and endings of all "The Inspector" cartoons? This theme plays throughout the shorts anyway. They don't do this to "The Pink Panther" cartoons.
@@ckvon9644 Nah, this is limited animation of, it could technically be much better (even the Pink Panther shorts from this era have more fluid movement than these opening titles), but the "newspaper comic" feel this has still presents its own charm
It's funny how rough this title sequence feels compared to the DePatie-Freleng work for the first Panther film, never mind the rather lavish Richard Williams ones of the sequels. Still has plenty of charm though.

Absolutely!
This and "After The Fox" are my all time favorite Sellers movies. With a huge honorable mention to "What's New Pussycat?"
mine too
This is probably because unlike the other Inspector Clouseau films, this one was evidently based on an existing stage play.

Best film in the series. My favorite of all the Sellers/Clouseau films.
While not officially a Pink Panther movie, this is by far the best Clouseau film. Not even close.

It is indeed considered a Pink Panther film.
This is by far the best title sequence for the pink panther movie series. Henry Mancini's most iconic theme ever! KUDOS!
Wonderful title sequence. Loved that movie.
