40-50 5th gen fighter Jets ain't gonna give them any significant advantage. They don't even have their own BVRAAMs to begin with. In wartime situation they will have to beg for BVRAAMs from US or China. Meanwhile we will be producing our own BVRAAMs in the form of Astra family of A2A missiles. When you have an in-house missile you can scale up the production in wartime situations.
China is working on air to air Hypersonic missile but looks like we are not far away thanks to DRDO we can match china in Hypersonic missile technology

This Air breathing Hypersonic Engine will be put on Hypersonic Cruise missiles and maybe it's later variant will be used for Hypersonic Aircraft in far future. November test was of Hypersonic Glide vehicle which are placed on Ballistic missile boosters and they glide on re-entry (with possible boost propulsion). This engine is like Brahmos's Ramjet engine's successor Scramjet engine for Hypersonic travel within atmosphere using O2 from air.
They did have the test facilities and the funding, planning, and the time for this unlike the Kaveri development. The Kaveri was not initially intended to go into service as quickly as was required (that is why the design was based on the F404). It was the only option after the post Pokran nuclear test sanctions, and it wasn't ready.
Single use engines such as this are not all that difficult. Universities word over develop this . Turbofans are very different . Metallurgical is the dark art , no one will share this . This requires years of development and testing , industrial base and funding .
The same reason we managed to build nuclear powered submarines but are still struggling with conventional diesel submarine and had to buy from foreign countries, lack of political will

Cruise vehicle was launched at 11:03 IST from Integrated Test Range Launch Complex IV at Abdul Kalam Island atop a solid booster. At 30 km altitude payload fairing separated, followed by separation of HSTDV cruise vehicle, air-intake opening, fuel injection and auto-ignition. After sustaining hypersonic combustion for 20 seconds, cruise vehicle achieved velocity of nearly 2 km/s (Mach 5.9). 120 seconds is far better than the earlier 20 seconds. Progress towards 1 000 km range will soon be there! A scramjet engine needs to only run for an hour to hit any target on the planet. So minutes count!

@@varun2250bhai USA inducted a hybrid glide vehicle ballistic missile. It is not a real hypersonic missile. We already have shaurya missile in that category which is a ballistic missile and can maneuver and also LRASM which carry glide vehicle.
@@Hriday-h9i We have tested our HGV recently, Shaura is a Quasi Ballistic reentry vehicle, not a true HGV. And you are correct, USA has only tested their HAWC just like us. They don't have a Cruise missile yet, my bad.
