1:00 Glory to Ukraine. Secons mechanized batallion K-2 here. Today we want to shed some light on a promising but, I think, underestimated link of one of the directions of modern warfare which is FPV drones. It happened that in all the videos people see on the internet, the whole operation lasts for two minutes. A small FPV drone reaches it's target and we have video fixation from some different drone.
1:55 An FPV drone, contrary to popular belief, is not about just taking it, attaching a bomb to it and flying to the target. It's a complex. It's about recon, communications, group, provision. Just to get to the takeoff point, you need to drive there which requires transport and a driver. To deploy, there needs to be a more or less prepared and hidden position there to cover the personnel in case of a shelling.
2:20 It's very hard work. I think most of the FPV drone operators would agree with me.
3:10 I will tell you a bit about operation planning. There is an engineering / sapper squad or unit attached to our FPV drones. Every evening they get a task and get necessary armament ready depending on the type of the mission we or our command assigned.
3:34 The weigh of the drone is a very important factor. Every type of drone has different carrying capacity.
First we get an order for the type of drone we need to prepare. Usually, we have some prepared, but if there is something out of the ordinary, we can make modifications.
4:40 These servicemen wait all day for their target. It may come out or not. They're usually sitting not in the front trenches with the rest of the infantry, but maybe 200-300 meters back. If everything goes fine, they work on the target. If the target is not there or there are some problems with the equipment, they fix the problem on spot. It's very hard work. 10-15 servicemen can sit there the whole day and hit only one or two targets if they're lucky. It's a hellish work really, condensed to one 30 secons video on RUclips.
5:39 We're in a waiting mode. Air recon is working. If any targets appears, we get a command to prepare a drone with either general purpose bomb, RPG or shrapnel. It's don with maximal speed. The drone is getting prepared for flight. The battery is attached, antenna, detonator. We get it out on a podium, hide and then fly.
6:52 It happened that we wanted to film the work of our FPV drones. Unfortunatelly that day there were no targets. The team was just sitting there. There were also some technical issues. However, the next day the same team went out and destroyed a very important target. It was a collective work of the brigade. The target, it's not a secret, was Tulpan - a self propelled mortar system of very large caliber. Just so you understand, only about 500 units of such mortars were prodused in the entirety of the ex-soviet space.
7:54 Kamikaze drone is a very unstable thing. It's equipped with contact sensors. When coming in contact with anything - a person, a vehicle or a dugout detonation is triggered. Our goal is to design a drone in such a way to make the process safe, cheap and less time consuming to the maximum.
9:07 It was a collective work. First hit on the Tulpan was from our artillery team using MT-12 Rapira. Later our friends got involved and did some damage to the Tulpan. However there was no detonation, just a fire in the driver's compartment. Later, during a short meeting, a decision was made to send Kamikazee drones because the vehicle could be fixed, so the most important part (to damage) was the barrel. After three sorties, we got a hit. We always tell the truth. Things are not always ideal, so if people think that every sortie results in the distruction of a target, that's not the case. There are a lot of technical difficulties. It takes luck. In this case, we got a hit with detonation in the 3rd sortie. So every sortie of this little thing, this little drone that costs from $300 to $500 is actually relient on the whole string of people who work on it and kick ass. Flying is also difficult, but the preparation stage is also very hard and difficult. If just one person is flying, there are about 10 people who help him. I think you will like this video. I want to emphasize that this was a collective effort of our brigade. But the cherry on top was the work of the FPV team.
