No offense, you dont wait for the seeds to germinate, I explained already what to do. It is simple, the depending on the length of the fruit you cutoff ⅙ part of the top and ⅙ of the bottom. You don't have to peel it. Cut the remaining papaya in half in the length, and pullout the seeds. Sow those and you get 99,9% female when they begin to bear. If still you get one male, no sweat it healthy for the females but not necessarily in this case. If you felt offended my excuses. I have paw paw fields with no males. A lot of farmers keep this as secret. Thus don't worry, give you it for free.
Very educative, I have been an Extension Worker for over 40 years, I am actually retired now and I am not ashamed to say what I have just seen and learnt is my first after all these years. I have a male one at home that I just decided to let it be, first thing I will do to morrow is that I will cut it and see what happens. One question though...do I have to sterilise my machete before cutting each of my male papaya trees?
Hi thanks for sharing . .hearb its best to at least leave one plant to be male in the garden for eco system n it has great remedial properties for dengue fever . . Hence u can do value addition n help the sick .. .thanks
Hi sis thank you for this educational video. You know i never planted a pawpaw tree - i think it was the birds because i have a great fruit bearing tree all year around can you believe it. BUT it carried fruit but it wasnt getting ripe and only now that it is spring in SA the fruit are ripening. I have soooo many branches. Can i replant those?
It's a papaya not pawpaw. I need help with pawpaw pruning and this came across the search so I wonder if that's just what you guys call it where you're from.
Just to let you know, as I have explained in previous comments. Those names are used interchangeably here in Namibia, as in many other African countries.
Hi. The “converted “ branches produced very small fruits that remained hard for months. Technically, one can say the tree converted but I wouldn’t call it a win since we didn’t get to enjoy the fruits.
Hi. Unfortunately our papaya trees were all killed off by a frost we received later that year 😔! Should we get any more male trees, I will redo this experiment and provide feedback.
@@thegabrielfarmstead Oh. Ok. I'm running my own little experiment with our two male papaya trees. So far, I've only found failures on the internet even though some academic literature suggests that this conversion can be done. Let me know if you ever get around to it!
@@DestinoAmazonas what i have seen so far is, even when it "convert", it does not put on fruits as an original papaya. Please share your results when your experiment is done!
@@thegabrielfarmstead Update to my experiment: The papaya is flowering with different flowers now. I opened one to see whats inside and indeed there are both male and female parts clearly visible whereas before there were obviously only male parts. Have you tried grafting a female branch onto the male stump to convert it to female? One other thing that's out of subject: have looked into permaculture?

These are some of the eventualities you ought to be prepared for whenever accessing a family channel unfortunately! We apologize that you find it distracting.

Thank you so much. That is the recommended procedure, that we unfortunately don’t always follow. Let us know how it goes!

Please share how you go about making the remedy. Thanks in advance.🙏
Many thanks. From Uganda, where big, delicious pawpaws grow even without being planted! Thanks for the fun rendition
You guys are lucky! With our hot dessert weather, that will probably never happen here…

Wow, thank you for this beautiful video
Just Amazing sharing, thanks again 👍🙏🌼🌹🌹🌹
Thank you so much 🤗
Graft a female branch into the male trunk.
Great
😂 what we do here in Nigeria is to slash just as you did but the top of plant 😅 and apply cow manure on top and hold with a nylon bag...
Madam, from where are you making this video?
Thanks for educate me
To convert a male into female cut the trunk of male and graft female branches/twigs into it. The new grafted branches will be female.
I will try that!
Thank you! It’s a shame that it will need grafting skills that not everyone has.
@@thegabrielfarmsteadgrafting is easy and there are so many RUclips videos on it, also as you practice it you get better at it
That was fun. Very cool.
You should at least have checked if the nesting bird had eggs or chicks before cutting down the pawpaw.
I thought you need at least one male papaya tree in your garden to fertilise the female flowers to produce the best fruits.
Not necessarily. Most Papayas are self pollinators. However, it is best to find out based on the variety you are growing.
How frequently should watering paw paws
It really depends on your climate. Since we are in a hot, desert climate, we do up to 3 times a week.
Very educational
thanks, you succeeded to cut down two pawpaw trees in the video.

did this work ?

Clip the main root before planting it works I have all girls and no boy to pollinate 🤣
I have done so with some but some still turn out males.. perhaps I am yet to perfect it. Thanks
😂😂😂😂😂
You have to graft a female branch into the male Trunk
Thanks for the comment. What we are often looking for is an easy, non-technical solution.
Thanks for sharing
Our pleasure 🙌
Wow thanks you cut the male pawpaw and that’s it after a while when it spouts again it will be a female 😂❤
I was unable to learn anything
did it work???

Too bad I had to uproot mine because it was a male. Wish I knew this.😂😂
Believe me we have had to uproot some too. Not all of them convert 😂😂

that's not a paw paw plant, it's a papaya plant to be precise.
