I love seeing Fayad's eyes light up in this interview as he speaks about arguably one of the best dance scenes in Hollywood. It is truly unforgettable. The Nicholas Brothers are truly unforgettable.
He's so humble. He's just happy that people got to see it, and enjoy it. When in reality, there was countless hours of blood sweat and tears we never saw, just so we could enjoy those 5 minutes.
I'm 16 and I'm glad i found the Nicholas Brothers and Cab Calloway, and let me say that they are amazing entertainers. People back then were truly elegant, classy, as well as talented. What a time... Sadly its long gone.
She asked what he remembered and he remembered everything! beautiful! the delight in the both of them was amazing to see. so endearing so magical is life and humanity!
Mr. Nicholas told me that, in 1943, at one of the early important screenings of the film Stormy Weather ―perhaps it was the L.A. premiere―the audience accorded The Nicholas Brothers' routine in the production such a long, standing ovation that the projectionist had to stop and rewind the movie and show the scene over again. When I first met Fayard Nicholas, he was walking with two canes. Later, I was present when he danced again for the first time after hip replacement surgery. I cry very easily. Needles to say . . .. --- from Shared Air
All movie musicals had weeks of rehearsals to perfect the number before going in front of the cameras. To do that number almost at the spur of the moment was awe inspiring.
The two greatest tapmasters anywhere. The Nicholas Brothers just made you so happy. We'll never see that kind of grace, skill and artistry again. We were just lucky to have caught it
I never tire of showing that scene to young friends who are too young (or too wrapped up in the garbage that today passes for entertainment) to have ever seen the film "Stormy Weather". Without exception, their minds are blown by the amazing talent and dexterity of the Nicholas brothers. I still find it difficult to believe that anybody might be physically able to do what they did in that famous scene. May it never be forgotten.
Until I happened to look at the Nicholas brothers on u tub I never even heard of them! I have never in my life seen such amazing dancing. The entertainment industry kept them out of the spotlight, they knew they would upstage Fred Astaire. They were gorgeous also. I have looked at the videos everyday and more than once a day. Looking at them tap dance makes all the other dancers look like amateurs. I’m 66 I should have known them when I was coming up. So glad for u tube!
Don't feel bad. I'm an entertainer and had never heard of them until I bought a VHS " Stormy Weather " about 20 years ago. I only got it because Lena Horne was on it. The routine at the end blew my mind !
Totally agree. They were much, much, much better than Astaire or Kelly. The industry should be ashamed for downplaying their talent. Thank goodness for RUclips. This medium has allowed the Nicholas Brothers to continue to be seen and enjoyed.
I've seen that scene enough times that I've noticed the one horn player who can't wait for Harold to stop jumping around him. He looks so annoyed, I laugh every time I watch it.
The interview is almost as entertaining as watching the brothers dance. Every fiber of this man’s body and soul is joyful. What a gift for them, and us🍸
These two men are KINGS in the Tap Dance world. How is it that they never received any recognition? I have seen their act several times and it still awes me. Great men.
Nicholas Brothers the greatest dance team ever. The things they could do in tap shoes was uncanny. I was 1 year old when they made film "Stormy Weather"with so many greats in that musical. 🕺🕺❣🎶
Fayard was a lovely man. He beamed energy. I could call him out of the blue with a question about a performer or writer from the old days and he immediately told me the answer. He had great stories.
My 5 and 9 year olds love the Nicholas brothers! Espically Down Argentina Way routine. My 9yo loves Fayard's routine when hes jumping over his hankerchief and my 5yo loves Harold's flips.
omg he is so sweet ...what a great contribution to the art of dance the Nicholas Brothers made....their dances make you want to dream they are so inspirational!
I met Fayard at the Friar's Club in Bev. Hills back around 1990. I was there with Milton Berle for lunch. Fayard was the nicest, most gentlemanly person you could ever imagine. I enjoy watching he and Harold now and just smile. What great performers and great men. There will never be anyone else like them in history.
It’s a real treat getting to watch and hear Fayard Nicholas, one of the actual brothers, talk about one of the most famous and amazing dances in history - and certainly in the history of American entertainment. Their performance brings tears to my eyes in its power, creativity, grace and beauty.
iiTrendyz Yes! He seems like such a sweet man. I would have loved to have met him. I could just sit and listen to him tell stories for hours and hours about back in the day. He seems like a grandpa type 😊
Hello. I hope all is well with you. I have a few people that I speak to in real life but no one I can really share my thoughts with that will actually care what I have to say. I am looking for friends and maybe more. People seem so despondent these days. They pay more attention to the online character of themselves they have created than talk to real people/people trying to chat to them online. I was wondering could we talk?
When Fred Astaire saw 'Stormy Weather', he said that the Nicholas Brothers' Jumpin' Jive performance was the greatest piece of filmed choreography that he had ever seen.
At 1:00 in the interview, this is the Orchestra Wives routine that Mr. Nicholas said preceded Stormy Weather:: ruclips.net/video/g1Wc-CRZEAY/видео.html I think the Nicholas Brothers come in about 4:00 into the number.
@LONGSKEET....Years ago, long nails were considered cool! No polish or anything like that, but it was like a pimp hand. This was like late 60's early 70's, and I know this interview was well after that, but some people won't let certain things go...like the Gerri Curl, or behaving like a stoner fresh from a woodstock concert.
Maybe cause its so amazing, we have to watch in entirety. Saw it when I was little.... Could hardly believe what I was seeing. Very few modern artists/dancers could compare! They worked so hard to perfect their craft then... No auto tune / lip sync for singers.... No camera tricks for dancers. Sheer hard work and talent!!
How about watching the routine and see if he fudged any of it. You'll find out that everything that he has said is true. He should know; he performed the number.

The best dance scene EVER!

The best dance performance of all time!
LITERALLY one of the greatest if not the greatest dance routines I have ever seen!! WOW!
That's what Fred Astaire said.
Phenomenal! I wish more young people knew about the Nicholas Brothers.
I just found out about them this year lol
Im 26
Tell them.
I'm 16 and I'm glad i found the Nicholas Brothers and Cab Calloway, and let me say that they are amazing entertainers. People back then were truly elegant, classy, as well as talented. What a time... Sadly its long gone.

He hasn't aged one bit, I never seen a man soo young in spirit
his hands still had that showman flair. such an amazing talent.

must of been a sight to see
The best 2 tap dancers there will ever be. PERIOD
Made me cry. .he's so sweet. What amazing talents he and his brother were. ..God bless and I know the heavens are enjoying your dancing now!
Wow! Hard to believe they came down those stairs doing the splits in one take with no rehearsal - incredible!!!! Love them even more :-)

Everyone should love their work like these two did. A joy to watch.
I just want to know how they avoided injury during the stair part 😳🫣 They were so impressive!!! Heart stopping!

To be fair to Fred Astaire - he freely acknowledged that they were the greatest, and he was no slouch obviously
Me too! So much is missed.
Totally agree. They were much, much, much better than Astaire or Kelly. The industry should be ashamed for downplaying their talent. Thank goodness for RUclips. This medium has allowed the Nicholas Brothers to continue to be seen and enjoyed.

Psalms 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
The way he'd say, you remember that?!" with a (justifiably) proud smile. Such a lovely man!
A sweet and happy man unto his very last days. If only we were all so lucky.
The enthusiasm of a kid. amazing gentleman.
The interview is almost as entertaining as watching the brothers dance. Every fiber of this man’s body and soul is joyful. What a gift for them, and us🍸
Unbelievable talent. Could watch the brothers dance again and again. All there movies were good.
These two men are KINGS in the Tap Dance world. How is it that they never received any recognition? I have seen their act several times and it still awes me. Great men.

The preciousness of Fayad is too much to bear I just want to hug him RIP❤️
Fayard was a lovely man. He beamed energy. I could call him out of the blue with a question about a performer or writer from the old days and he immediately told me the answer. He had great stories.
Great! May the Nicholas Bros rest in peace!
National Treasures. The reason the word “talent” was coined.
He was an adorable older man ☺ awwww lol
I had the honor of attending a performance with a number tap dancing greats but the Nicolas Brothers took my breath away! They were AMAZING!
what comes through more than anything is that is he is such a good man! we were blessed having him.
Ive watched that piece many times and STLLL get goosebumps and speechless. Extraordinary!
What an amazing talent, there will never be another like the Nicholas Brothers and when joined with Cab Calloway is pure magic!!!
My 5 and 9 year olds love the Nicholas brothers! Espically Down Argentina Way routine. My 9yo loves Fayard's routine when hes jumping over his hankerchief and my 5yo loves Harold's flips.
he's adorable.
omg he is so sweet ...what a great contribution to the art of dance the Nicholas Brothers made....their dances make you want to dream they are so inspirational!
Pure Genius!
Imagine being a young person in the 70s or 80s finding out that your grandfather had those moves.
Love those brothers!!!!!!!!
this is one of the best musical movies ever made brought me good memories
Pure elegance in this man!!!! Please bring back this class to the human race!!

I feel disrespected by him asking her do she remember that!!! Sir….. everything y’all did was iconic and unforgettable
A fabulous routine. I've watched it many times and it still entertains and astounds me.
Nicholas Brother's, the greatest of all time.
What a gent! Athletisism, grace and humility.
He was the cutest thing! 🥰🥰🥰 I’d love to see a biopic about them!
When Fred Astaire saw 'Stormy Weather', he said that the Nicholas Brothers' Jumpin' Jive performance was the greatest piece of filmed choreography that he had ever seen.
I just watched that video yesterday..again! It is breathtaking!! His energy in this interview is amazing!
I would’ve been on cloud nine if i was the interviewer. Still sharp and classy...fingernails and all. RIP Fayard.
Top Class.

I think the Nicholas Brothers come in about 4:00 into the number.
Nicholas brothers. Eleanor Powell. the three best hoofers ever! why did they not do something together?
Bob Lowney the brothers were black, it sad that Hollywood hid them away we all missed out
Delightful human being.🌹🌹🌹
Rest in Paradise, Nicholas brothers and Calloway ❤❤❤
They danced to the that jive. The best dance routine ever done on screen. 🤔 Or anywhere else.
Legend.
He still has the voice... Go head brother...

Remember That...Lump in my Throat.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰
Phenomenal number
why does this not show Highlights???

💚💛💜💓💔
sadly missed
Love these guys, but dancers NEVER give any credit to the choreographers involved with the majesty of the final output.
is this Camille Cosby doing the interview?
Diabetes doesn't make them long and ladylike??...which is what I was referring to.....
possibly diabectic
What's up with the nails????
Ikr I was thinking the same thing
Nice but sorry too much fudging....
How about watching the routine and see if he fudged any of it. You'll find out that everything that he has said is true. He should know; he performed the number.
