    Col de la Loze sounds great. I am about as far from a climber than it gets but fresh tarmac and no cars combined with the views will make the legs hurt a lot less.

    I rode part of the Tour de France Mountains beginning of June for a charity event and col de la loze is an absolute beast. It’s brutally long, and the average gradient is betraying. the last 6km are absolutely insane.

    All climbs mentioned are interesting and/or beautiful climbs. Most with a lot of cycling history attached to them. However, the title of the video is misleading as almost half of the climbs mentioned would at least not make my top 10 of climbs that will SHAPE the race.
    - For the opening weekend I would put Cote de Pikes above the Jaizkibel. Big change that the Cote de Pikes will have a big influence on who will pick up the first yellow jersey.
    - The Aspin and the Tourmalet are too early in the stage and maybe more important too early in the race to have a huge influence on the outcome of the Tour.
    - And the Ballon d'Alsace is only the first climb of a brutal stage in the Vosges. I don't see why that climb will be the climb that decides that stages.

    One of the ways that Christian Prudhomme has been able to get the Puy de Dome climb back in the Tour de France is by agreeing that there will be no spectators on the upper reaches of the mountain. It will be interesting to see how this works in practice. Although the Lacets de Montvernier climb has similar restrictions when it has been used, that doesn't feature as the stage finish.

    • @augustin4374
      @augustin4374 Год назад

      It wont be hard to enfoce, there's only two paths going to the Puy de Dôme summit

    • @johnwestwell2241
      @johnwestwell2241 Год назад

      I’m sure it will be very easy to enforce. The Lacets de Montvernier has always been empty when the race has climbed that. But that isn’t a summit summit finish.
      Having the final climb populated with only a few gendarmes and marshals along the road might not look so good as a spectacle. If Pogacar and Vingegaard go head to head on the Puy de Dôme, will it all feel a bit flat?

    Why is the Ballon a'Alsace repeatedly quoted as the first climb the tour did? The Col de la Republique was climbed in 1903!! 1,161 m (3,809 ft). I read about this proper 'first climb' a long time ago, and have ridden it while staying in St Etienne - OK it's not massive, but it is a climb with height making it a mountain (over a 1000ft or 300m), and is a lovely 17km climb.

    • @jansmith4284
      @jansmith4284 Год назад

      I think they got Jaizkibel confused with Bordako Tontorra / Murgil Bidea. Because Clasica San Sebastian hasn't finished with Jaizkibel for years, it's been from Monte Igueldo on the other side, which is much steeper and leads to a much faster finish, so time gaps would have been much more likely.
      It's hard to see how the relatively gentle Jaizkibel, followed by 7km of flat, is going to do much.
