Band Statement
Pride of the Rock today issue the following statement after being unable to accompany Clydebank LOL 2000 to the final dispersal point on their parade today.
This followed a Police Scotland instruction to only march two abreast from a point on the parade route.
As todays parade marshalled, Police Scotland advised the parade could commence in normal formation of four abreast. However, at Clydebank Town Hall where memorial wreaths were to be laid, the parade was to reduce to two abreast, an absolute first for the band and its members.
We were hesitant to commence the parade with these limitations. However, we absolutely understood the requirement to remember the 528 lives lost in the Clydebank Blitz and therefore accompanied LOL 2000 solemnly to the War Memorial.
There was a tense atmosphere as the ranks of the band were unnecessarily filled by police officers as we paraded down Kilbowie Road.
At the War Memorial we played a fitting tribute of Piper To The End and Abide With Me.
At this point, and in consultation and agreement with LOL 2000, the band dismissed and the parade ended.
We did not play the National Anthem as we do not perceive the parade to be complete.
However, it was unacceptable to walk in ranks of two for “operational reasons”
We were greatly concerned we would set a legal precedent for Scotland to follow and we were truly sorry to be unable to complete the route.
We thank the leadership of LOL 2000 for their support and agreement in the actions taken.
We will absolutely return to Clydebank to complete the route with LOL 2000 if they have a determination to do so.

Great band so good down in London at the Lord Carson parade,see them come past parliament playing the sash and all the crowds tuning in was some sight .
