    This is awesome to see, great setup and looks like you have a great team helping you build and design it.
    I also have 48V system, that I inherited when I bought my van, having little electrical knowledge beforehand it taken me a bit to wrap my head around it but I'm getting there. I love the sound of the 48V alternator and the Wakespeed 3000, plus those 48V solar panels!

    been searching for days for such an explanation on 12/24/48 benefits. good to see potential watts charging from the alternators - a benefit that seems to be missed when so key to 4-seasons full timers.

    Have you posted a diagram that maps this system out? I would love to be able to see that with a components list. I wanted to get a Volta 48v system, but they make it VERY difficult to purchase unless you are using a builder for everything in the van. One thing I don't think was mentioned was how fast this recharges the system from empty to full while driving. Volta's comparably sized system will recharge in about an hour and a half of driving. They don't really need the solar if you drive much. I expect this would be about the same recharge rate?

I’m not the most mechanically astute when it comes to electronics or mechanics but if I needed to I suppose I would be quick to learn. It was interesting and I do look forward to seeing when it is installed and you explain in your words how it works.

    How are your 12v devices powered?
    Are they connected to the vehicle 12v and you depend on ws3000 to power them from house 48v when parked?
    Or do you have a seperate 48-to-12 Dc converter. If so what product is it?
    Thx🙏

Maybe a speech class could help him slow down, cut out some of the jargon and vary his intonation. I do appreciate his confidence and deep knowledge of the subject. JaYoe!

    Nice! I'm planning a similar 48V system in my Mercedes Actros 6x6 build. I hear good things about the Wakespeed controller, but haven't heard of this alternator... What made you choose this one over the Balmar 96-48-100-K8 (48V, 5000W)?

    • @dbrophy
      @dbrophy Год назад +1

      Also, I don't understand why they are limiting the alternator to 50% of it's capability? What warranty are they afraid of voiding?

      You forgot to mention the most important difference between the MultiPlus and the MultiPlus 2... the hugely improved efficiency... Check out the "zero load" power in the spec sheet... 25W for the MultiPlus 48/3000 vs 11W for the MultiPlus 2 48/3000...

    • @mikefranks4528
      @mikefranks4528 7 месяцев назад

      @@dbrophy yeah, the idle consumption rate for the multi+2 was the reason why I purchased it. I will have two of those in parallel at a total of 22 W of zero load capacity. The only thing that sucks about that setup is that it only produces 4200 W at 20 A max running.

  • @sspence65
    @sspence65 2 года назад

    the victron charge controller has a max 100v input, so you will not be able to series your panels. Since you ordered 48v panels, you will not be able to take advantage of the MPPT high voltage input to overcome high temperature or low light voltage sag.

    Great technology but if 100dc volts is safe to the human skin. It's still more efficient to have a 100 volt DC system to an inverter. The closer you can get DC voltage to the AC output voltage the more efficient the system will be

    There are 48V Lithium solution with a single block in many telecommunication base station solution. i do believe they are more compact. no external BMS required.

    • @142bobsim
      @142bobsim Год назад +1

      Yes indeed. They are about $1,000 +tax and shipping from Alibaba. Top quality as they are meant for telecom and no fooling around there. Victron is totally overpriced on batteries. I am building a 5 kw solar (10 X 500watt panels) with 10kw 48 volt batteries (2 X 5kw , one year old second hand telecom batteries) with 3 phase hybrid inverter with built in mppt with up to 1,000 volt solar string , full safety, full wifi connection, all for about $4,500 usd . All top end Chinese components. China is by far the leader in solar tier 1 systems. I am doing this as DIY in Indonesia. Same system in USA would set me back nutty money. Throwing endless money in doing a system like this is easy. Doing it safe and cheap is the real challenge.

  • @Etheoma

    Yeh for a 48V system I wouldn't go for Victron as they don't do 48V native batteries which they themselves in many of their manuals suggest reducing the number of links in the system and adding in another 3 links to buy an overpriced battery when you can get a native 48V battery from a reputable brand for like 1/3 the cost.
